look what a really good --- not a fourth rounder --- running back helped them do in Dallas last year.
-
Well, you know what? They should be in a win-now mode.
We were 8-8 last year. One more win and we're in the playoffs. We were 37 seconds away from winning the opening game in Detroit. 37 seconds and we're in the playoffs.
Right now, the strength of our team --- the one we should hone --- is our offense. I'm pretty sure that's one reason Ballard was rumored to be interested in Alshon Jeffereys.
Now, because we traded Allen, we have to pick another TE --- so that pick we got? pretty much seems to be targeted for TE.
We started the week with 7 draft picks. We now have 7 draft picks (because we had to give NE our 6th rounder WITH Allen to get NE's 4th.
Meanwhile, really good teams DO take big swings. Look at what New England (Grrrrrr) has done. They lose Martellus Bennett. They pick up Dwayne Allen (50 catches, 6 TDS). They sign Stephon Gilmore, one of the "bigger" free agents. They trade their 1st for Brandin Cooks! No Slouch.
Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to watch and wait. but I really hate the idea that we have "tear down" what's here. We have Andrew Luck. This is not rebuilding. It's tweakingI know, I'm tweaking.

So far we've weakened our offense and our defense.
We traded production --- whatever you thought of Allen, that was 50 catches and 6 TDs --- for a 4th round pick. (Go back and look at last year's 4th round; outside of Dak Prescott, there's not a lot there)
And we've let everyone who was a free agent on defense, and then some, go.
Jabaal Sheard had 5 sacks last year; Simon 3 1/2, Mingo 0. That's 2 1/2 less than Erik Walden --- who we didn't re-sign.
And geez, go look at the CBs on the roster. Outside of Vontae Davis, there's no one! Especially now that we've let Butler walk away.

One last thought. if there's a guy you think really could be an all-pro at 15, wouldn't you want that guy --- regardless of position? OJ Howard could be there. I haven't seen too many mocks with him picked before 15.
think of him as a safety blanket for Luck, and our offense
-
you're going to draft four linebackers? C'mon man.
Couple of thoughts:
i like mckinley, but a RB like Cook or McCaffrey could play two spots (run/pass)
also, everyone is comparing Sidney Jones to Marcus Peters, someone Ballard drafted
I liked what I saw out of Peppers today and on tape. Some guys just make plays.

I'll tell you one guy who loves him --- Marshall Faulk. He has absolutely gushed about McCaffrey. And if anybody should know running backs, it's Marshall.
I think he could be great for us. Not only that, he's like picking two players in one. he can carry the ball and be split out in the slot.
-
Not a guard, but Alex Mack did pretty well for the Falcons this year after jumping from Cleveland.
-
I would think. Gee, Andrew Luck, the franchise, missed nine games in 2015, and his RIGHT arm is still in a sling this offseason after having surgery.
I would think, "if I'm the GM and I broke Andrew Luck, I should never get another job in the NFL again."
Protect your king. Basic chess

go back and look at the last few Chiefs drafts. One thing I noticed; they picked LOTS of cornerbacks.
Just sayin

in the HISTORY of the NFL, Luck is one of only eight QBs to throw 40 touchdowns in a season.
did it in his third season.
more importantly, he took us to the playoffs in his first three years --- and advanced each time.
I don't know about the amount, but you pay quarterbacks. especially winning quarterbacks.

You know, there was an interesting subtext to all the OL picks. I can't remember if Irsay, Grigson, Pagano or
ALL of them said it --- but was that they changed the KIND of offensive linemen they want.it's all about having great feet. And they attributed that to the hiring of Philbin and the whispered idea that they're going to more zone blocking.
To me, that means there's very little chance that Holmes or Harrison beat out any of the four guys we picked --- even Blythe. I think the old paradigm was more big-body-maulers.
they want dancers now.
by the way, i nearly fell out of my chair when they chose Blythe in the 7th.
FOUR offensive linemen?
wow

Kelly. Our inside protection will be greatly improved.
Luck won't have to run for his dang life.
Fast receivers will be able to run longer routes.
More chunk plays. more tds. more wins

One last thing. I watched a TV ESPN mock draft a day or two before the real deal. It featured media guys from each team's market making the picks and had McShay and Bill Polian grading those picks.
Wells, I think, predicted the Colts would pick Eli Apple, and Ryan Kelly fell out of the media's first round altogether.
Two things, Polian hated the Apple pick, said he was essentially a flag waiting to happen because he was so grabby in' coverage.
More importantly, he said the Colts NEEDED to take Kelly, and that he though Kelly could be the fourth BEST PLAYER in the entire draft.
I don't know about that, but that was pretty strong coming from Polian

I'd love a few pro-bowl defensive players too.
But you know what? For right now, with having an Andrew Luck and a leaky OL?
The best defense is a great offense.
We can get defenders as we move forward.
-
I liked other guys, but hey, it HAD to be Ryan Kelly.
Look, this draft, or most importantly, this pick, isn't about next year --- it's about the next 10 years.
We have a once-in-a-generation player at the most important position in football in Luck.
You HAVE to make HIM the best player he can be. That means first and foremost protecting him.
He's different than Peyton. Peyton got rid of the ball FAST and really protected his OL.
Andrew likes to hold the ball longer.
We've seen other QBs get beaten into short careers (Bert Jones anyone?)
This pick was about helping Andrew Luck become a Hall of Famer --- and getting us to a few Super Bowls.
Sexy? No. The right pick? Absolutely, based on the draft projections of this kid

it may have been a total smokescreen, but I think we should also expect it could be Jihad Ward in round 2 --- if he lasts. Almost everything I've read suggests he has huge upside and is expected to be drafted much earlier than predicted (remember the tweet saying Grigson AND Pagano were spotted having dinner with him)
Kendal Langford is 30, Anderson is coming off a knee and Art Jones hasn't played in TWO years.
-
I think you should add Jihad Ward, Darian Thompson, Cody Whitehair and Spriggs to that list.
Not to mention, even possibly Derrick Henry if he slides.
-
Hey, that's one of the best I've seen. Don't know if all of those guys are available, but it hits most of the spots I think we should go for. OL, DL, Edge rusher/LB, S, RB, WR.
Not bad!

Without a doubt, in the long number of years I've been watching the draft, the biggest reach EVER was in 1986.
The then-St. Louis Cardinals had the fifth pick in the draft (pretty sure it was the fifth)
I don't remember who was on the board, but the Cardlnals picked a middle linebacker from Michigan State. Name was Anthony Bell.
And I remember all the pundits nearly falling off their chairs. I think Kiper knew who he was, but said he had him ranked in the third round.
Now, remember, this was the FIFTH pick in the draft.

I absolutely LOVE the video I've seen of Brown. I don't know about Ray Lewis, but he reminds me (in terms of hitting) a little of Bob Sanders. And, at least on film, he looks like has tremendous feet --- he's always in position to hit --- flows to the ball and pursues like crazy, can blitz well, and he plays tremendously well in zone.
I don't think he's limited to playing inside. I could easily see him playing like Mathis (Mathis is only 245) only, he's actually a natural linebacker. I would love to see him at 1.

Yes, we don't have Dallas' line. But we were running the ball better near the end of the year. the line was playing better all the way around.
I was just saying --- you put a stud RB in our offense, it makes us better
