I thought he could of had a TD on one of the drives if he had just run. The drive ended in a field goal.
True, or I think he could have thrown it for a TD. But that guy chasing him down was coming in fast. He'll get there I think. At least he didn't take the sack.

In the first half Walker played the run very poorly, and was a very weak link in our pass defense all game. They were clearly targeting him in the pass game.
I didn't notice how he played against the pass (in the 3rd quarter, our entire D was getting carved up), but I didn't think he played the run poorly in the first half. He had a couple of nice tackles for a loss.

That’s what happens when you play cover-2 and get zero pass rush against a good QB.
I think all of the holding calls were accounting for some of that "zero" pass rush, to be honest.

You know, with the strength of schedule we've had these past 3 weeks, most people, including myself, didn't think we'd be very close to 3-0, even before Brissett was leading our team. I'm still on the Brissett train. He had a excellent game today.

I had to work today so I only go to see parts of the game. Did Speed play? I didn’t see him and he didn’t record any tackles. With Leonard out, I thought we’d see a lot of speed today.
Walker played Leonards spot and balled out. I didn't notice much from Speed.

He had one heck of day today. 14 solid tackles!

Agree on the final drive. I would love some of the journalists to ask them about the rationale on the multitude of 3d and long for the Falcons and the coverage we chose to play. It was so frustrating and annoying... we switched to man coverage on 3d and short... but we were playing zone still on 3d and long. Just man up on 3d and long and make the WRs beat us... QBs like Matt Ryan simply dispose of our soft zone in those situations. Every high end QB we've played against has killed us in those situations. Hell even old Eli Manning almost beat us last year by abusing our zone.
It WAS painful. I feel like we could have pressed on the los and pressured the QB a little more. It seemed like we didnt blitz at all.

Just to clarify or sum up my thoughts, Brissett has exceeded my expectations so far.
Before the season I said I hoped he would improve in two areas, red zone efficiency and 3rd down %, and he's done both. The theory that he'd do better with better coaching/better OL/better talent has definitely proven to be true (less sacks, better run game = much shorter 3rd downs to convert than '17).
I also think that it's good to break down his play to point out both the good and the bad. Pointing out the good is obvious, but I think it's necessary to point out areas where he struggled, even if it was missing one or two open guys, to see if he improves on those areas or to see if it becomes a bad habit. Otherwise, we wouldn't know if he's improving or not as the year goes on.To add to this, the truth is, we've played...two....games....this season. I say by game 4 or 5 we'll know what his ceiling is.

It was more noticable in the Titans game, especially in the 2nd half, but Oke played some significant snaps on passing downs.
I'm not 100% sure how PFF calculates missed tackles, but in the Colts scheme it's more gap oriented so he may have hit his gap and PFF thinks he hit the wrong gap and thus it's a missed tackle.
That being said, I'm a huge Walker fan but so far he has not been playing as fast as last year, I don't know if he's thinking too much or trying to do too much, but he was as big a reason for the Colts run defense last year and anyone else and this year he doesn't seem to have it yet.
I could be wrong, but I think he started slow last year as well. It will come. Our defense will shine this game. Opening day they will be pumped!!

What I don't understand is the majority of his big plays guys are streaking down the field WIDE open, like nobody within 5 yards of the receiver. It really does feel like Madden football.

I still have NO idea what that little demonstration was for.
Like I said before, he should get an academy award for that. That little bit really ticked me off.

Key in this game is contrlling TOP. Long sustaining drives that end in points. TOP has to be our plan vs all top offenses this year. The opposition cant score if they dont have the ball. Good thing for us the colts can ground and pound.
The thing I do like this far is when we get in the red zone it seems we are scoring TDs. Hopefully this trend will continue.

I voted average offense, and above average defense. If I could change my offense vote, I think I'd bump it to above average, only because it is home field advantage, and I think Reich will open up the playbook a little more. Here's to a great game for the Colts!!!

After some time to digest, and past the CK drama lol, what are you feeling going into game 3?
Is there an actual poll? Just making sure I didn't miss it.

Mack and Hilton are questionable for Sunday.
Good call. Here's hoping for the best then!!!

First play of the game for Colts offense, Falcons load the box, Hilton and Campbell on deep crossing route, play action to Mack, 30+ yard bomb to either receiver. Cain makes a nice 20+ yard grab, and Hooker gets another int. on the season. 4 sacks for our defense. Willis with a hard hit that causes a fumble. Colts win 24 - 20. Our defense proves it is for real.

You know though, if the game was on the line and the Colts needed a FG to win I would still believe AV is the best kicker for the job. It's the other 59+ minutes that I'm not too sure about anymore.
Until AV misses a game winner, I'm with you on this front. Here's to hoping 100% FG made this week against the Falcons.

That's fair. I'd say bad, disjointed, out of rhythm. I'd give him a D for Sunday's performance.
Curtis Painter would be an F-. Not really bad, but dreadful, awful, terrible, atrocious, shouldn't be on a football field...
I don't think I'm overlooking JB's good plays. I just don't think he had very many. Maybe four? Two really good throws on the TDs, really nice job on the third and long to TY, a couple other good throws? It's hard for me to give him credit for escaping pressure when it seemed like he was inviting the pressure by being slow to get rid of the ball. Take away the escapes and focus on his work as a passer and the initiator of the offense, and I think he had a bad game. The sneaks were good... he got four yards on third and 1.
I don't think that game is necessarily the way he'll always play. I think he saw a dramatically different defense from the previous week, one that's difficult even for experienced QBs, and he wasn't quite able to get his bearings. He still did some good things, but I think he has to be much better moving forward. Especially if the run game is struggling, which it was, until Wilkins broke his big run.
I think a D is harsh grade for a win. I too feel a C is better suited for him that game. He kept some drives alive and scored some TDs. I do see that he seemed hesitant on several occasions, definitely indecisive, but he got the job done.

I was hoping someone would create this thread . He just kept popping up all over the place making plays. One play was Bob Sanders like.
Agreed. I'm glad this thread was created. He played well from what I can tell. Some nice hard hits AND good tackling.

The way Reich calls plays, we may go with NO kicker, and just go for it on 4th in the red zone, and go for 2 after TDs.
ANALYTICS BABY !
All you need is 2.51 yds (for insurance) per play, and you get another 4 downs!!

I felt like he held the ball too long at times, and was indecisive, but was elusive. Needs to work on touch passes a little more. Nice work in the endzone though.

AV perfect in week 3

I'll admit, I've been skeptical of him the past few weeks, but to be fair, in the grand scheme of things, he's been kicking well for a long time, and it definitely seemed to be a mental thing. All players have bad games. When you are so good, that the exception is to be great, all the time, it gets amplified when things go wrong. One game down, the rest of the season to come. Until he proves to fail in the clutch of a game winner, I'm still glad he's our kicker for now.
