  1. This is a game where we really see what oue coaching can do. As previously stated, we are heavily injured, so it will be interesting to see how the coaches scheme this up.  I feel like KC will stack the box and use press coverage like last year, so hopefully we adjust to that.  Reallistically with all our injuries, I feel like we'll lose by 10+, but any given Sunday... and I hope I'm wrong.  I'm ready for OUR first upset of the year.  LET'S GO COLTS!!

    I think we will win.

This is not a bold prediction, nor am I 'on something'.

Big Q is going to wreak havoc and Houston will play like a demon and smack Mahomes around all night.

I said before we would get killed.  However, I really want us to win this one,and I hope you are right.  I think it will be a true testament to our coach and team if we pull out a W.  Go Colts!!

. Normally, games are won or lost in the trenches and our Oline does have to dominate to run the ball and our Dline does have to get pressure and get home.

But I’ve heard it said by many: PRESS coverage by our CBs!! Mess up their timing. If they play soft, it’s going to be a loooong night!

On offense, we can’t have drops or penalties. We can’t be ourselves. The Colts are going to have to play their best game to have a chance, including a great game plan by Reich and Eberflus.

Thank you.  I don't think I've seen our corners press coverage ONCE this year.  I might have missed it, but it always seems like they are 5 yards off the receiver, even on 3rd and 1....

Yep, this was definitely the plan going into the playoff game, but we got down 14-0 really fast & Reich abandoned the run game altogether. This year KC is giving up like 6ypc on the ground, so if we can't run on them, that's a problem.

Thing is, even down 14, you don't need to abandon the run, unless it's the 4th quarter, IMHO.  Let that defense REST!!!

This would be a good game to keep a guy like Mahomes in the pocket and roll double coverage towards Kelce for most of the game.

However, you have to mix it up with an A gap blitz occasionally and when you do that, you will flush him out of the pocket, that is when you drop more into coverage with a spy on Mahomes. The O-linemen cannot move forward in passing situations when you have lighter DL get in passing lanes dropping back for those few plays. They just have to be well timed, along with slot CB blitzes that we did well in the playoff game with Kenny Moore vs Mahomes. That is how we are going to limit him.

On offense, do what we do. Ball control, run the ball and tempo control with long drives. KC will play lot of man coverage, so we have to scheme our pass catchers open because I am not confident that outside TY, the others will separate as well. Stay patient with the run, unlike the playoff game. Hope the refs call face mask penalties against Chris Jones, when he does what he did vs Big Q in the playoff game and got away with it.

    Thoughts???

Sounds like a good plan.  I agree, we got away from the run game in the playoffs, and it felt like we panicked.  Time for another 100+ yd. run game.

Yeah, Al Woods and Hunt kept the LBers clean last year.  This year there is no Al Woods and Hunt seems a bit slower and weaker than last year.  I think they expected Stewart and Lewis to fill those roles.  While Stewart does a good job, I think he has a conditioning problem because he's good for a few plays and then you really see a drop in his explosion off the snap and his ability to occupy space in a hole.

Additionally I think they are misusing Autry.  I think Denico is an important piece to the defensive puzzle but he should not be considered a 3 down dlineman.

All that being said, I can also understand 'Flus comments about there being an effort problem.  And a perfect example of that is when the QB throws a short pass to anyone, rb, te or wr, rather than reacting once the ball is thrown all the back 7 seem to sit back and let the receiver come to them.  It was very apparent in the Raider game.  Watch how the back 7 of the Raiders reacted with the ball in the air on short passes and compare that to the way the Colts back 7 reacted.

They weren't playing a vanilla defense though.

I think the ONE lone exception was when Willis came up and made a great tackle for loss, that I remember.  There was also another play where our end stayed home, but the Raiders guy ran all the way back to the other side and gained like 10+ yards...it was a sad play on our part, save for the guy who forced the Raiders guy back the other way.

I'm starting to like him the more I watch him play.  He plays hard and he cares about what he's doing.  You can tell that.

That TFL was a heads up play, a thing of beauty.  I wish more of our defense would play like that.

It seems that our expectations got raised quite a bit the last few weeks about the state of the team. We expect new players like Campbell and Cain just add water to become great. It's a lot of pressure to put on these young receivers. If Hilton stays out much longer and I hope he gets healthy it's going to be more and more difficult to have an effective pass game with our receiving group. I was very disappointed the tight ends didn't step up last week. Ebron was a major disappointment. It seems to me that we might have to add another receiver from someplace but from where?

I think Doyle did fine.  Did MoeAllieCox miss something? I think it was just Ebron with the dropsies, alone from his late game TD.

That makes sense and is good to know he doesn’t have a bad injury.

Thats the same coach who stated Hooker was out due to rotation.  I don't believe everything I hear from Reich. I hope I'm wrong and will be happy to eat my words.

He is tall, but he's not really a power back that excels on the goal line. Plus for whatever reason are OL hasn't gotten great push on the goal line. We seem to exclusively look for passing TD's once we get inside the 5.

It's to pad Jacoby's stats....didn't you get the memo? :P For reals though, 1st and goal and we can't run it in...WTH o-line!!!!...<SMH>.

    I'll say it again -- 250+ yards, 3TD, 1 pick.

You can talk about the bad timing on the pick 6 (is there ever a GOOD time for a pick 6?) but the overall numbers are what they are.  Just like they were what they were in the first 2 weeks when people harped on his low yardage numbers.

You can't go "but mah numbers" in the first 2 weeks and then turn around and ignore them when it's convenient

Brissett wasn't anywhere near our worst problem today.

When evaluating Brissett, according to this thread, I don't think he was the WORST problem, but there is definitely room for improvement.  He had some bad throws and a pick 6, and he had some TDs and dropped passes.  It was just a bad game overall.  I will say I feel the drops were more costly than his bad throws.  I'd have to re-rewatch the game, but I'm not sure how many 3rd down throws he had that were bad.  I feel like they were 1st or 2nd down shots that were thrown into coverage.  Regardless of this game, I'm still ON the Brissett train.

I didn't even read through the posts (no need) but the pick 6 is not why we lost. Our defense was garbage. Let the JB haters have fun all week lmao . Also yeah lets bring in Chad Kelly lmao or he isn't Andrew Luck, post it haha . I already know without reading any posts what is being said.

Our defense is why we lost, plain and simple. Going down 14-0 to Carr and the Oakland offense to guys I have never heard of just sucks. Our defense is bad, I am hoping it is because Leonard is out.

I don't blame just the defense alone, although they were bad.  We went 3 and out our first two possessions.  That didn't help our defense.

Losing this game was a gutpunch.  I see a lot of fans hurting right now, and for pretty good reason.

Let's face it, we made the mistake of looking past Oakland a bit, and they hung some points on us early that we couldn't recover from.

That said, we're in a better position than 2-2 makes it look like,  Especially because the Texans lost this week too.  We still have a fighting chance at the division, especially if we can be healthy.  I think we go to 2-3 after the Chiefs game at Arrowhead, but after that we should be able to rally and pick up some wins and make gains towards being a playoff contender again as the season goes on.

Anyone who wants to give up now is welcome to turn in their blue horseshoe at the desk out front.  I still think we have a fighting chance.   This is a young team that has a good shot at being better in the second half of the season as we cut dead weight and improve the pieces we have.  I also expect to see Ballard invest in talent in problem areas.  As long as we don't go too far into the hole before we get our feet back under us, this team should be OK in the longterm

One thing this defeat did prove though is we're probably not premium contenders this year.  We can fight for a playoff spot but we're not an elite NFL team quite this year.  So this year is not "win now mode" time.  Not quite yet.  Primary goal should be developing our talent, including Brissett, and arranging the future reinforcements we need to contend in 2020-2021.

Part of that is identifying our weaknesses.  Heres how I see them in this snapshot of time

We badly need some meat on the D line.

We badly need an upgrade in depth to our LB group. Adding some muscle there wouldn't hurt us at all

We need at least 1 maybe 2 more reliable WRs.

We could  use a couple more DBs for coverage depth to allow us the freedom to go man coverage more often.

We may also need a new DC if Eberfluss can't fix this D in season or make adjustments in coverage.

I want to see defensive smart people who anticpate throws mear the first down marker on 3rd and long....lets get off the damn field.

I think he had a really bad game.  Went to Campbell twice on deep routes, but he was completely covered.  He was once double covered and once quadruple covered.  He threw a lot of passes into coverage.  He also telegraphed that pick 6 at the end by a mile.  And is it just me, or does he look like he's throwing the ball at 100 mph each time?  Receivers didn't help him out very much with all those drops though

He put us in a bad position with the pick 6, and had some bad throws. He also had some good throws dropped.  I say he played at C level.
