  1. This game, once again, proved that football is, and will always be, won at the LOS. The team that owned it, won. Nothing more, nothing less. The fad, gimmick, run-and-hide defense was owned and the o-line was over run, run by, and run through.

If only we had the greatest QB of all time to cover the stink. Peyton brand air-freshener.

    Perfect timing!

For those that don't remember, Jim Mora was fired after the 2001 season because he refused to dismiss his then-defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, per the orders of team president Bill Polian. In Mora's eyes, it wasn't the coach who was at fault for the Colts defense giving up 30 points per game. It was the front office. Coaches can't take sub-par talent and make it win, and talent on defense was nonexistent in 2001.

Mora refused to dismiss Fangio. Upon that refusal, both men were sent packing. Mora hasn't even spoken to Polian since.

Ironically, Jim Caldwell was in the exact same position this year as Mora was in 2001. Caldwell opted to obey the orders from the Polians, and he fired Larry Coyer last week. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, Vic Fangio is currently coordinating the No. 1 defense in all of football, surrendering only 13.4 points per game

  3. So Polian is now a coach in addition to the Vice Chairman and de facto GM. He is dictating the defensive schemes so why have a coach? I wonder why Irsay don't wake up and realize Polian is ruining this franchise with his uncontrollable need to be in charge of everything. The job of any GM is to procure the talent for the team. The X's and O's are the responsibility of the head coach and staff.

Once Caldwell is fired what self-respecting head coach candidate will want the job if his hands are already tied by the Vice Chairman/GM? It is looking more and more like we will get a Caldwell clone.

    Nailed it.

Another day has passed and I'm still burning over BP's comments. Irsay needs to hit the handle and flush this load down the drain today.

  4. " Caldwell and the Colts not only seemed unable to adjust emotionally to the challenge of winning without Manning but also failed to adjust strategically by putting the players he had in the best positions for success.

And that supposedly is the reason the guy in charge wears the headset."

    exactly

    +1

  5. This organization is at a crossroads. It is time for Irsay to make some HUGE decisions. And personally, I don't want anyone but Manning being left behind....

I am SO right there with you!

  6. Orlovsky showed some poise and touch we haven't seen out of QB all year. On the long TD throw to Garcon, he had to wait while PG put a triple move on the CB to get open downfield, then hit him in perfect stride with defenders in his face. Nice throw under pressure. At least he has a vertical game. The Painter experiment was worthwhile in this lost season....we found out he's not a capable backup.

    Your words are worth repeating.

  7. Coyer is gone, just like Meeks and Fangio. Nothing really changed after their departures. The only time I've seen a different D is the playoff run when Indy won the SB (Meeks). In summary, the defense is still bad. We stick to a scheme that isn't as effective as it was for us during the playoff run, the victorious one.

The Offensive Line. Since Tarik...not much and we've even let some key players go. Scott, Lilja.

Still porous. Hopefully with Castonzo and Ijilana (still unproven) back they can be better next season.

The run game. Delone Carter is drafted does well but fumbles. He is either injured or sits. Although Brown did well last week, the run game isn't much different as a whole.

What I'm asking is will improvements be made instead of just talked about? I love the Colts but it's sometimes frustrating as a fan.

Will they get puppets to coach and pay lip service to the press or will noticeable adjustments actually be made to avoid another terrible season?

You have doubts that meaningful changes will occur. I share your doubts.

  8. I don't really understand how people really still don't get this.

This team was built for the offense to score on every drive and he defense to make 1 stop to put the game away.

    It's not rocket science.

    Agreed!

And...only one team uses this "snake oil" philosophy... they're 0-11. In a copycat league, if this was a successful strategy, multiple franchises would be doing it. After a decade of "success", no one does. Nobody, na-da, nyet. They all know it's garbage.

I never liked it, never bought into it and will always see it for what it is... snake oil.

This season makes the ultimate argument for why Peyton was voted league MVP a record number of times by his peers. They KNOW he overcomes the philosophy and finds a way to win in spite of it.

  9. Polian has an offensive based philosophy and he's had great success in selecting the skill position players for it. However, the big games have always been determined by the big men at the LOS and his failures there have ended all of his teams except the 2006 Colts. It was a miracle playoff run, driven by the best QB to ever play the game. Jim Kelly and Peyton Manning did all they could to win in spite of his inability to comprehend the core principals of winning in the NFL. His philosophy fills seats, then gets stomped out by good defense when it counts. That will never change. As long as Polian stays, the Colt will require the greatest QB on earth to win. That's not a philosophy that I'll ever willingly settle for. He's spent twenty plus years trying to sell his brand, but in the end it's a losing strategy if your goal is championships. I'm done with Bill... he won't change and his concepts ultimately fail to achieve the desired goal.

  10. I appreciate the optimistic Colts fan who knows the meaning of "any given Sunday". I also appreciate "straight talk". I'll go with straight talk on this one. My Colts are the most disorganized, undisciplined, unprepared and uninspired group I've ever seen walk onto a pro football field. The "game plans" they've been asked to execute (in all three phases) are the most parochial in the league. Bottom Line; they are flat out overmatched in personnel, game planning, coaching, offense, defense & special teams. For the Colts to win this game, the Patriots would have to commit the biggest choke in NFL history.

    My (broken heart) expectation;

Patriots - return both a KO and a Punt for a TD =14

    Patriots - intercept 4, 2 retuned for a TD's =14

    Patriots - 7 sacks, 2 strip sacks, 1 for a TD = 7

    Patriots - pass for 400+ yards, 4 TD's = 28

    Patriots - rush for 175+ yards, 1 TD & a FG = 10

    Colts - 2 drives cross the 50, 1 drive nets a FG = 3

    Patriots 73 - Colts 3

  11. Ok, so i open up todays paper and see an article by Bob that reads....Best options don't include Manning! well already i dont like the article before i even read it, but i read anyway. Let me say that i have followed Bob and his articles for many years. I have read some really good ones. He has made me laugh numerous times with his use of funny words. You can also tell he is pretty knowledgeable about sports. But to me, the bad he has done for indianapolis has outweighed the good. Todays article states how there is almost no way peyton and luck can exist on the same team....And i agree thats a possibility. But, its also possible that they can. I just get the feeling that Bob ALWAYS wants to be negative. I would bet while talking to Oliver Luck ,Bob was probably saying "you dont want your son to come to Indy , do ya...And have to sit behind Manning for years?" You can tell by his articles that he doesnt WANT good things to happen or workout! His article last week about the polians to me was a retaliation article or something. He didnt list any names of anyone that told him his info. Just that the Polians have ran all the good people out of town. It sounded to me like an article written about someone that he has disliking towards, rather than a factual article. Again, an article full of negativity. I remember going to New England last year for the pats/ colts game. Bob that day had written an article about how much better Brady was than Manning. I didnt agree with the article but whatever. That night in the stands, i had some patriots fans taunting me. The taunt that made me the maddest???.... "Even your Indianapolis sports writer says Brady kills Manning!" That didnt set well with me. I will never forget that. I thought brady looked pretty good that night. Nothing special. Just played it safe and made safe throws. Manning looked like a MACHINE that night! He made some unbelievable throws and was playing with a decimated team and inexperienced receivers. Take away the picks and it wasnt even close! I remember thinking...kravitz, your an *! Even though they picked us at the end and won the game, there was no question in my mind who the best QB on that field was! But im sure Kravitz loved that we lost to vindicate his article. so after again today reading his negative article about how there is no way Manning and Luck can exist together, Im tired of it! im tired of Bob's negativity. I think the "SEWER RAT" fits perfectly! Look, there is nothing wrong with writing factual articles that make people look bad or that are not always positive. But Bob has an agenda towards people! You can tell by reading his stuff that he likes to stick the knife in and rotate the blade. I dont know if he has "little man's" syndrome or what, but i wish he would go write somewhere else. To me he is a cancer for Indianapolis. This is just my opinion and im sure some people will disagree, but i felt like writing down what i have been feeling for a while.

I stopped reading Krabby years ago. His endless negative content and gloomy outlook always rubbed me the wrong way.

  12. It IS Jim! Jim Harbaugh is coaching exactly the same way he played. He REFUSES to lose. Hates it. Can't stand it. Won't tolerate it! He sets the standard. Harbaugh was never the reason that the Colts lost a game when he was our QB. He played bloody, hurt, tired - whatever it took he'd give it to get a W.

I married a Niner fan and have watched them with my wife, for better or for worse for, since the Montana era. For those who think it's because they're in a weak division, you should note they've only played 1 division game so far. It's not the division. They're playing good football in all three phase, period. Harbaugh has them in the right play, with the right personnel, down after down, after down. He knows what they do best and game plans accordingly. He's getting the absolute best out of his roster... that's coaching.
