  1. Week 1 the Colts started Linkenbach, Reitz, Saturday, Pollak & Diem - week 2 they started Costanza, Reitz, Saturday, Pollack & Diem. Coffee made a very sober and grounded list.

    I was looking at the rotation they’ve been using on the left side;

OG Reitz – Rookie – no NFL starts

OT Costanza – Rookie – no NFL starts

OG McClendon – 2nd year – no NFL starts – 4 games played

    OT Linkenbach – 2nd year – 4 NFL starts – 16 games played

Possibly 2 players who have never started an NFL game on Peyton’s blind side? Will they insert Don Brown or a rookie RB in the backfield at the same time too? I thought I was being bold when I put 2 first year starters on the rights side. My list must look like a mixture of wishful thinking, panic, nonsense and crazy talk, but what the heck it’s just a guess.

It’s not as big a stretch however to pose that Linkenbach, Costanza, Reitz, McClendon, Saturday, DeVan, Pollak, Diem & Ijalana are looking like the first 9 in, with Tepper, then Kirkpatrick at 10 and 11.

Side note: I kept seeing McClendon in the QB’s grill and thought he was not playing well. When I went back and took a close look at him I realized the opposite was true. He was recognizing breakdowns by other blockers, passing his guy off, crossing the pocket and saving plays from disaster. Big difference.

    Go Colts! :coltshelmet:

  2. IMHO, Reitz has outplayed all other contenders for guard so far, and he's still listed as an OT. That versitility and the ways he's shined makes him a lock in my eyes.

My guess is DeVan goes to the left side with Costanzo, and Reitz goes to the right side with Ijalana. Pollak goes to the sideline with Diem for veteran leadership and in case of injury, both have the experience to step right in.

    Go COLTS! :coltshelmet:

  3. I like Bulger. He played in a pass first offense that had very similar demands to what the Colts offense has. Read quick, release quick, deliver the ball on time and with accuracy. Mike Martz has a good eye and high standards for his QB's and that makes him the guy I'd get on the phone with quick. I also think he's the one guy that could still soak in the playbook this late in the preseason.

  4. Ijalana was a 4 year starter at LT where would AC play then?

Coffee, I was thinking about this and realized that no one is guaranteed anything on the line. Both Ijalana and Costanza are projected to be NFL Tackles, but that was a projection. Now that they have them in camp and in live action, their best fit is subject to trained eyes. I know you'd agree that if the Colts Coaches think they've got the puzzle solved by having Ijalana at LT and Costanza at RT, then that's what they should do. Egos be dayumed. We all want the same thing in the end; the 5 best guys up front making the offense a yardage gobbling machine. We'll get to watch it all unfold and see how the pieces fit and maybe, just maybe, ODB gets bragging rights for a few days. :)

    Go Colts! :coltshelmet:

  5. ...I think Nevis was one of the biggest steals in the draft. He showed quickness and raw power. He is the pass rushing DT I think Colts fans have been craving for years.

    I agree.

I'd add "serious attitude" and "relentless motor" to go wth that "quickness" and "power". Brother, that's a premium blend!

  6. Thanks for the info! For those of us that didn't get a chance to watch the game, these analyses are very much appreciated! In your opinion, Castonzo didn't look impressive?

The left side of the line seemed confused often the whole first half of the game. I noticed that the Rams attacked that side with stunts and blitzes. The net result was unblocked players in both run and pass plays, and general chaos on who was responsible for who on the left side. Line calls come from the center and QB, guard play and blocking backs must be in sync with the OT to make it all work right. Brother, it wasn't working right over there. He really couldn't look impressive under those circumstances. It's his first NFL game, and what went on over there just can't be layed at his feet. I blame him for nothing, and would need to go back and watch him in isolatation to be able to comment further.

  7. Using NFL Preseason Live https://preseason.nfl.com, I watched the Rams game again in Slo-Mo.

The new guys that I thought “got it done”:

    Drake Nevis

Scored him as a “Beast”! Mathis, Nevis, Harris, Freeney, lined up side-by-side is going to cause QB’s and D-Coordinators to soil themselves.

    Ben Ijalana and Joe Reitz

Scored them both as “Beasts”! They both looked like home runs. I’m now very optimistic that they’ll be in the starting line-up at some point soon and that’s where they’ll remain. Dare I say running game?

Other notable (surprise) D-linemen were Ollie Ogbu, UT & David Bedford, DE

Running backs Darren Evens & Delone Carter showed speed, power and good decision making. I want to see a lot more of these two.

Adrian Moten, LB – Joe Lefeged, S – Chris Rucker, CB & Kerry Neal, LB, all played like they knew what they were doing. They played fast, diagnosed quick, and tackled like pros.

LB’s: Brackett, Conner, Angerer, Sims, Wheeler, Moten & Neal. I really like this group at LB’er and for Special Teams.

All of the new TE’s were blocking their butts off and making catches; Williams, DeVree & McNeil. Something good will come of this group.

The roster on Colts.com is missing some players and is showing the wrong jersey numbers in a couple of cases. I hope they get that straightened out for the Redskins game.

    Go COLTS! :coltshelmet:

  8. I just watched the Rams game again in Slo-Mo and Joe Reitz played awesome. He drove guys into the secondary on run plays, pulled like a 5 year vet, and didn't allow his guy to even get a sniff of a QB. He and Ijalana are both bad *.

  9. First, I'm not in the camp of people who think were all set at WR. Two injuries and the offense is limited again. I saw that last year and I don't want to see it again.

Second, Last year the Colts were all set to introduce the 4 WR set as a regular addition to the offense and it went up in smoke in week one. One injury and that's gone again.

Third, I wouldn't drop a future starter to get Housh, but Blair is not a future starter IMHO. Straight up, he could not beat out Housh in a training camp.

So when it comes to Blair, I like him too, but not because he's a lethal weapon, but because he's a feel good story. It's not about that though, it's about the best 5 WR's the Colts can field and that puts me in the Housh camp. Do it!

    Go Colts! :coltshelmet:

  10. Mega money is tough to ask for when you've missed as many games as he's missed these last 2 years. He does need to come back to Indy where he's a fan favorite. What's wrong with 3 years, 6 million? A fan that makes $100,000 a year needs to work 60 years to make that same amount.

  11. Yeah, that precision footwork demo was given by #16 Joe Horn. He is seriously slick. He scored 6 TD's in his final game as a senior. Scouts said he reminded them of Brandon Stokely. Now that I've seen his footwork, I see why. Heckendorf is #13, not bad, not bad. Here's their numbers in case you want to check them all out again.

    03 Moore, Larrone WR 6-1 185 R Delaware State FA-11

    10 Smith, Taj WR 6-0 192 2 Syracuse FA-10

    11 Gonzalez, Anthony WR 6-0 193 5 Ohio State D1-07

    12 Gilreath, David WR 5-11 169 R Wisconsin FA-11

    13 Heckendorf, Kole WR 5-11 191 1 North Dakota State FA-10

    16 Horn, Joe WR 5-11 179 R Ashland FA-11

    17 Collie, Austin WR 6-0 200 3 Brigham Young D4a-09

    83 Brooks, Chris WR 6-2 210 1 Nebraska FA-10

    85 Garcon, Pierre WR 6-0 210 4 Mount Union D6d-08

    87 Wayne, Reggie WR 6-0 198 11 Miami (Florida) D1b-01

  12. The Colts need a SS and CB in my eyes. I think they've done a nice job addressing issues at the first and second level, however the secondary remains less than robust. I believe the SS issue is a higher priority and Whitner is who they're after. I also believe once the SS issue is addressed, they'll calculate available cap space and work to sign another CB. At least I hope that's the plan.

    Go COLTS! :coltshelmet:

  13. Im so stoked about getting these talented guys and bringing them in to a championship team so hopefully they will rejuvinate their careers in Ernie Sims and Jamaal Anderson.

Now all we need to do is go after SS Donte Whitner to shore up the safety spot, maybe another Corner for depth, and another NT to share time with Antonio Johnson and we will be set!!!

I second your perspective! With Tommy Harris signed they need a quality CB and SS (Whitner) to strengthen the secondary.
