This might be the end of the line for former Colt Shaquille Leonard
...The final nail was the Eagles playoff game in which he did not see the field. Not for a snap. Essentially, being a healthy scratch is a horrible sign for one’s playing days...

Yeah, and this kind of bums me out. I think we've seen several examples of Shane's accountability mantra playing out in real life.
We have a bad defense, but apparently decided right away that the DC was safe. That doesn't mean they haven't had conversations behind the scenes about changes and improvements that need to be made, and there could be other changes with the defensive staff I suppose. But concluding that Bradley is the best option for this team right now is kind of disappointing.
I really wonder, if the biggest reason is, that if Steichen and Ballard fired Bradley, they do not know who to replace him with?

Next season will be HUGE for Richardson.
Let´s say he runs into another injury that puts him on the sideline... then what?
This season, Knee, Concussion, shoulder = 4 games and then season was over.
Ballard said multiple times in his presser that players need to be available and stay healthy, so when hearing on Richardson and that he won't change his playing style, that was what sidelined Andrew Luck and made him retire way too early.
Richardson needs to change his playing style, bc if he don't... we are 2 years away from drafting another rookie QB.
Regarding Ballard and his words about cap flexibility, I hope that means that we will make some great additions to the roster and especially sign a playmaker or two.
I was pleased to hear in Richardson say, in his press conference, that he learned from his mistake, when he slowed down before crossing the goalline. This was the first I have heard him admit to deliberately slowing down. which one can certainly view as him showing off. I do not want AR to change his aggressive style of play, but he needs to play smarter as a professional.

Venturi really does make a good case against the scheme being very flawed.

As the guy said on bspn this morning when talking about Michigan's win last night. "They did a great job of MIXING UP COVERAGES, CHANGING THINGS UP, AND USING DIFFERENT PRESSURES THE ENTIRE GAME". So if a college coaching staff that is limited to20 hours of practice times per week can change up defenses and mix in a few different schemes and formations with players younger than nfl players, why can't an nfl coaching staff be a little more creative????? Like I said 5 or 6 more different blitz packages per game would have made a difference.
I actually said this very thing to my dad this morning... How I thought Michigan defense was so creative. That perhaps, was the biggest reason for their decisive win.

It was coverage bust. Bradley didn’t do that coverage on purpose. That long TD was on Cross. You are correct. Neither team stopped the guy they needed too.
Sure there was a blown coverage. You keep focusing on only the one long TD. I can excuse that play. They took our defense by surprise, with a long bomb, and it worked. My problem with Bradley, is more what happened after Collins lit us up on the first play of the game. Once you get torched by the guy, is now even more reason, to try your hardest to contain him. But of course, Collins goes on to make catch after catch, in critical situations, keeping their drives alive. Just like I knew he would. Gus is just too conservative. and vanilla. Never throws a wrinkle in. with him, it's the same predictable defense, game after game. like a tooth ache. You may either win or lose this way. but it won't be because of any gamble or risk Gus is willing to take.

I thought of Bill during the game. How many times did he cover TY Hilton or Marvin Harrison in tight man with a safety shadowing over the top all game long? The video of him telling Chad ocho cinco to just not worry about playing because they were double covering him all game. Make the 2nd option and down the line beat you.I was thinking of those old Colts vs Patriots matchups as well. Great example of the point I was trying to make. Prepare a game-plan, where you double cover the teams top wideout, block/chip/press him right off the line. Make them beat you with another player. I can't recall a game, where Gus Bradley has ever used double coverage, to take away a teams top receiver,

It was the same thing both ways, really. We knew we had to stop Collins, and couldn't do it. They knew they had to stop Taylor, and he still went crazy. Collins had a long TD. Taylor had a long TD.
In the end, we still should have won by a point.
I don't think it was so much that we couldn't stop Collins. But rather, that we didn't try anything different, in order to stop him.

Just watched (and posted) Steichen's press conference from today. As was mentioned by others, previously in this thread... Based on his answer, I wouldn't exactly say Steichen gave a resounding "Vote of Confidence" for Gus Bradley. Yet, after watching, it does seem unlikely, Gus gets fired this year.

I think if they retain Pierce, it might be a good match. Raiders aren’t totally devoid of talent.
Good point, but maybe they want to hire the GM (Dodds) first? and let him run the evaluation process to choose the new HC?
Should Dodds get the job? He may target, to poach, several Colts players and/or coaches.

Take off the 75 yarder and he is a little over 100. If you only allow 100 yards to one player and that’s all they have that’s pretty good. That was the only real big play.
Adams was under ten yards per catch and it took a lot of targets to get there when we played LV.
Texans had maybe one good drive outside the two coverage busts.
Come on? That's a bad argument.
If we took 75 yards off of Jonathon Taylor, he would have also just had a little over 100 yards.
The Colts, fully knowing Collins was our biggest threat, and basically, the only dangerous player on the entire Texans team, who would need to be contained.
...was allowed to put up 9 receptions for 195. Every WRs dream!
Do you remember when we had this very discussion last week? and you said, lets drop this until after the game is played?
Your opinion was, the Colts would contain Collins, due to injuries of all their other receivers, leaving Collins as their only weapon. And also, the idea that because he was playing away from their home field, that would have some negative effect.
I totally disagreed, I said I knew Bradley would not make adjustments to limit Collins, and, I all but guaranteed, that Collins would have some ridiculous game.
Now granted, we have young players,
I know that, you know that, and Gus Bradley knows that. Our young players are not excuse to allow Collins to do what he did. this time, all the Gus Bradley apologists can't use that one. More needed to be done, to take away their best player.
Also, Steichen needs to take the blame along with Bradley. It's clear to see Steichen takes his job as more than just an offensive mind, and talks every week, about coaching all aspects of the game. Offense, Defense, and ST.
While Bradley is the DC. I believe SS would concur, as HC he has the final say in everything. Including defensive game planning.
In hindsight, I think it's safe to say, that if Bradley were to have shut Collins down, or even just limited him to an average performance, the Colts would be hosting the playoff game this weekend.

The Collin’s thing was not a coverage though. It was a busted coverage and both safeties went to the middle of the field. Same with their other TD. Both plays were because of the young safeties. This was not on Bradley. Holder just explained it very well on JMV. He goes that was the worst play in nfl history if that was an actual defensive play. Cross messed up.
It was more than one or two plays...
Collins led all Texans in scrimmage yards and PFF grades in the Week 18 win. He tallied a 92.4 PFF grade after finishing with nine receptions for 195 yards and one touchdown, which led all Texans players.
Once again, the Colts defense allows a teams one and only dangerous wr to have a career game like Jerry Rice would do.

Kent Sterling made a good point in the video I posted earlier. He mentions how everyone knew, going into the game, Nico Collins was the only viable threat Houston had on offense. Sterling mentions how Bill Belichick would try to not allow a teams best player to beat them. Yet, Bradley seems to never make any adjustments to limit these lone players from single handedly destroying us.
The week before, vs the Raiders, it was a similar situation with Davante Adams. And I suppose I could go on and on.
To me, it's more than just Gus' zone scheme and personnel that needs to be considered in his retention.

I agree with the first part but not about Bowers, I'd prefer to get a WR like Odunze, because the improvement from Pierce to Odunze would be huge, and to me I'm happy with our TE room with Woods returning next year.
Rome Odunze is a interesting prospect. I will be watching tonight, since Washington has a good group of WRs.
I wonder if any of their other wideouts will be entering the draft?

I like Pittman and I'm fine if he stays but I've always said we could do better. My opinion probably isn't popular but I stand on it.
I'm with you too. Pittman has been a really great player for us. But at what cost are they willing to pay him? I personally don't put him at the highest ranking of his position

I'm not entirely convinced that's what was being said. If it's something that's not in doubt, Steichen doesn't have a problem saying it. When there's not 100% certainty, he always sidesteps. I think there's a solid chance Gus is back, but I don't think his comments today were any sort of vote of confidence.
Daboll just said this morning that he expected Kafka and Martindale to stay, while it was just announced that Martindale resigned. Coaches will say the safe, non-committal answer when they aren't sure...
Good point. I read this morning where Daboll had said he expected Martindale back, however, I didn't hear that Wink resigned.
Funny, Martindale was a candidate for the Colts HC job.
Thanks

Yep. I hate to say this but franklins tackling was so bad. When you have late round picks in starting positions they are usually inconsistent. One week they are great. The next week they are bad. They can fill in short term but if you ask them to be a starter they show why they are a backup. I do like speed though. You can do a lot with him and he has actually won some games in the end for the team.
And after Franklin and Speed it really drops off. Olubi, Harrison, Stuard and the lot, all played at backup levels at best.
Eagles Sirianni could target Colts Bob Cooter for OC

Could the Colts and Eagles swap offensive coordinators?
Destin Adams
...Brian Johnson's fit with the Colts:
If the Eagles were to fire Johnson and hire Cooter, the Colts could be in need of a new offensive coordinator. And if Johnson becomes available, he could be a solid fit with the Colts. He worked closely with Steichen as the QB coach for two seasons and was mentioned as a key contributor in helping Jalen Hurts develop into the QB he is today. With the Colts, Johnson wouldn't be expected to call plays, and he could work with and help develop soon-to-be second-year QB Anthony Richardson.
A QB that Johnson just so happens to have a past experience with. Before becoming the QB coach with the Eagles in 2021, Johnson spent three seasons with the University of Florida as their QBs coach, as well as one season as their offensive coordinator. His last season at Florida in 2020 was Richardson's freshman year. While Richardson only attempted two passes that season before redshirting, that season was crucial to his uptick in playing time over the following two years...
