  1. 5 Underrated 2024 NFL Combine Winners

    https://www.thedraftnetwork.com/2024/03/04/2024-nfl-combine-underrated-winners#google_vignette

    ANTHONY GOULD, WR, OREGON STATE

Oregon State wide receiver Anthony Gould put forth an underrated performance at  Lucas Oil Stadium. An undersized playmaker with deep vertical speed, Gould ran the 40-yard dash in a blazing-fast 4.39 seconds. Only five receivers had a faster result. Furthermore, Gould's 1.49 10-yard split matched Xavier Worthy for the position-best time, showcasing initial explosion and burst. Gould also had a 39.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-9 broad jump.

Gould took a step forward this season, recording 44 catches for 718 yards and two touchdowns. The speedy threat also accounted for 427 career yards and two touchdowns as a punt returner. Versatility on special teams will make Gould a hot commodity on draft weekend.

I think Blackmon and Cross are the starters as we sit here today.

Could be, but I was just trying to make the point, that there is no reason to think, that these later round picks (that Ballard makes) will not have a chance of making the team, or even being major contributors.

I just am not sure the quality we are going to find today at safety. It probably won’t be much better than what we have. Ballard does always find gems at LB late though.

Rodney Thomas II is our starter and he was drafted in 7th round out of Yale. Seems none of our LBs were early round selections...  So I wouldn't be surprised if upgrades can still be found in these later rounds.

Colts roster has so many young players and not many holes. It’s why I didn’t think they really needed 7 picks. It’s going to be hard to make the team if your a late round draft pick,

We need one or two LBs. there is room on the roster there. Safety roster seems to have holes. Might see a few vets let go during camp.

  5. 6'6" 330. Most reports agree he is very good in pass protection. Can play LT or RT  I like the pick.

    https://pittsburghsportsnow.com/2024/03/03/matt-goncalves-elevated-game-battles-star-pitt-dl/

...He’s a big (6-foot-6, 330 pounds) offensive lineman, with experience at left and right tackle, who bided his time in Pittsburgh to emerge as a team captain and starting left tackle in the 2023 season. Unfortunately, his senior season was cut short due to injury. He started all three games he played in last season, filling the crucial left tackle pivot, and he was expected to break out even further after a strong 2022 season.

Goncalves earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2022, taking 830 snaps last season, which only trailed fellow lineman Jake Kradel offensively, and he flashed the ability to play on either side of the line in the process.

He finished his career with appearances in 35 games (making 21 starts dating back to 2020), and his size and versatility should entice NFL personnel looking for a potential starting-caliber offensive lineman down the line.

He earned a 71.9 PFF offensive grade in 2022, with 76.2 in pass blocking and a 67.2 in run blocking, in 830 snaps — starting all 13 games last season. According to PFF, he didn’t allow a sack while allowing five quarterback hits and 12 quarterback hurries. In 165 snaps last season, he allowed just four pressures, three hurries and no sacks...

There was discussion if the Colts would even activate Paye's 5th year option. Which I believe that decision does not have to be made for quite a while yet. I could definitely see Ballard taking a pass rusher. Turner may go earlier? But I am not convinced the Colts see Turner is the best at that position. Watch for Latu at 15.

a top tier OT should be in consideration, if available? Our line may gave improved a bit last year, but honestly, they were far from stellar

I called the pick back on April 4th

Inside the latest DeForest Buckner deal

    By Mike Florio

...Here are the full details of the deal, per a source with knowledge of the terms:

    1. Signing bonus: $18 million.

    2. 2024 base salary: $2.25 million, fully guaranteed.

    3. 2025 offseason roster bonus $10 million, fully guaranteed.

    4. 2025 base salary: $13 million, fully guaranteed.

    5. 2026 offseason roster bonus: $10 million.

    6. 2026 base salary: $13 million. ($10 million of the 2026 compensation package is guaranteed for injury only at signing. It becomes fully guaranteed in 2025.)

Most extensions aren’t truly extensions; the old deal is ripped up and a new deal takes its place. This deal is more like an extension, in that Buckner’s pay for 2024 remains the same as it was — $20.25 million.

The practical guarantee is $53.25 million, since the $10 million injury guarantee for 2026 becomes fully guaranteed in 2025.

The new-money average is $23 million. The total average at signing for the three-year contract is $22.08 million.

  8. Malik Nabers will meet with Indianapolis

    https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/malik-nabers-will-travel-to-indianapolis-on-thursday-after-visits-to-jets-bears

...He met with the Cardinals and Chargers last week. He was in New York, visiting with the Jets today before heading to Chicago.

After visiting the Bears on Wednesday, Nabers will head to Indianapolis.

He will meet with the Colts on Thursday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media reports. It is a scheduled visit not previously reported.

The Colts need another weapon to join Michael Pittman...

Turner is widely looked at as the best edge rusher in this draft. It would be a reach imo to draft Latu or Verse at 15.

The latest mock drafts, by both CBS and Lance Zierlein, now have Verse being selected ahead of Dallas Turner. Latu is then predicted to go 16th and 19th respectively.
