  1. Man this is so crazy, Its not often teams have the type of money we do this offseason to spend on FA and I keep seeing others stating that we are not in need of a WR or RB. I think we will all agree our biggest needs are OL,DL,OLB,DBs I understand that, but we also need to look at what we will be loosing in FA. I don't think we will resign Freeney, Powers and Avery which takes me back to WR something everyone keeps saying we don't need, well I strongly disagree I love Reggie but we can't ignore the fact the he is 34 years old. T.Y. Hilton looked very promising but he is 5'8 like 170 as a slot WR, guys of his size easly get injured year in year out. We dont have a #2 WR opposite Wayne to me this is a big issue. We have more then enough money to address our needs on both O and D lines, CB and OLB including WR. Think about it, the WR core is one injury from being the worst unit on the team, if wayne went down teams would focus on TY. I know we like to think of our TEs as WR but they are not. Stanford never got Luck a great WR in college and we saw just what he could do with on in Wayne. If we want to really help Luck out in year two sure O-line is first but we need a WR as well, we have the money to do it and take care of all other need. If you feel its a need or not it will be a greater need the longer we wait, thinking we could get by just one more season without a wide out but if we loose a starter at wideout we will be in big trouble.

  2. Indystar is saying we have 14 FAs right now, who are the other? if we only have 14 FA this off season I think 8 is to high a number of guys that should be resigned when I looked at the 14 that were listed in the artical. Most out of the 14 players are unimpressive or injury prone. I just don't see us spending 10m to resign our own.

  3. Ok brother nice quote so you do know what your talking about. The way I see it 89% or 90% close enough but I thouht it was based on a season rather then a four year span, with that sayed what amount do we need to spend this offseason? I don't know how to pull other articles up here like you just did but I have found over 7 sites all stating our cap space anywhere from 42m to 57m. The 57m I found on Indystar. I looked up the past contracts of the FAs you listed and minus McAfee their combined salary for 2012 was 5-6m give or take.

    Shipley-465k

    Justice-1.5m

    Butler-770k

    Fokou-615k

    Moala-615k

    A. Johnson-1.25m

    Linkenbach-540k

Out of this group I only see us re-signing Butler maybe Shipley, but your right McAfee will cast the most. Our other FAs wont be close to these numbers so to set the number at 10m to resign our own is a bit high to me. You seem to know a great deal when it comes to the CBA so my question is in 2014 does the cap for every team go up and what will that mean for us come next  offseason 2014?

  4.

I don't know where your getting you're figures, but they are not correct. It's well documented the Colts have 46 million in cap space and we absolutely will spend right around 10 million or more on our own free agents. Also the amount we have to spend is 89% of the cap and even that is questionable. The rule states that we must spend 89% over a 4 yr. period and not necessarily 89% each yr..

Brother please do some digging because in all we have 57m and who do you see use resigning cause unless we bring back Freeney we wont top any where close to 10m just go back and look at the old contracts for our FA. You could be right on the amount of cap we have to spend, but I know its in the 90s as well but we will know for sure in a few months
  5. Yes best thing for the Colts and Luck is that we will have a much bigger focus on the run. The one thing most fans dont want to see will be one of the biggest edges of our game next year. We will have the personal to run the ball next year and will take a lot of presure off of Luck and the D rather then asking Luck to be superman, I can see why PM covered up so many holes and we never saw how bad our team was without him because of us creating situations like this were we would ask Manning to do it all on his own. Can the man have some help please. I really dont understand why so many fans dont want a team that can run the ball at will. Is it because we are so use to this team being a pass heavy team, I mean how is it good for Luck to throw the ball 40 to 50 times a game, hell by the time we get to the playoffs how much gas will be left in the tank throwing that much every game. I mean its not rocket science, a good running game will help rather then hurt this team

  6.

I don't think the poster meant Ballard would be better than Jackson in his peak of career rather a young Ballard, with an improved oline, will out perform a Jackson at this stage in his career. I agree with that, Jackson has been used up in his career. If Jackson would come over relatively at a bargain price, I wouldn't be opposed to him coming in but at this stage of his career, he isn't the game changer you are looking for.
Ok well then my question to you is who is the game changer I am looking for? Bush,Hillis Mendenhall if you had to pick one RB out of FA who is the game changer in the 2013 FA class?
  7.

Yes, let's grab that RB who just had a freak injury to his Leg & probably will have a short NFL Career if he even gets Drafted. :sarcasm:

I'd rather take that RB we interviewed at the East-West Shrine Game

How many 7th round draft picks have you seen make the team in the past ten years, its called low cost high reward bye picking him up with our last pick is not a bad move and wont hurt our growth as a team, hell our last two draft picks from last year never played a snap or even finished the season with the team. Yes he is injured but lets not act as if guys have never got hurt right before the draft and came back and had good careers look at Willis McGahee in which they are two very simular injury's. Lattimore was slated to go in the top 10 in this years draft before getting hurt, now he might not get drafted. Why not take him with the last pick place him on IR same as we did Chapman last year until he is ready. Either way you look at it with such a late pick #214 it wont hurt the team rather then just picking up someone who we all know can't help the team (AKA) a camp body...
  8. What? Yall are crazy or just in a dream land, I like Ballard but to say he will be better then Jackson next year wow. All I know is next year when Jackson is having a great season and we are wishing we picked him up just look at Ballards #s.

  9. Well hell I've been saying it for a while but yes I think we should take a good hard look at all FA RBs. I like Ballard but he can't do it all on his own, look at what happened when we got to the playoffs bye the fourth quarter he was running on fumes. I understand that we need to focus on the Oline, but I think a lot of fans really don't understand what we can do with 40 to 55 million. we don't need 9 to 12 Oline men, thats about how many guys we could bring in if we are shopping wisely which I think we will. I say we go after 2 maybe 3 oline men in FA and still be able to take care of our needs at CB SS OLB DE WR and RB. Lucks could use some help and while the Oline is the biggest issue, our running backs are not to far behind outside of Ballard. Brown has some good speed but when was the last time he finished a season without injury's. We were close to being last in the red zone and a new Oline will greatly improve that but I dont want to wait another season to see what our RB can do with a new line when we have the money now to fix just about all our holes. We need to look at Jackson,Bush,Hillis,Mendenhall or Greene and I would love if with our last pick in the draft at #214 we invest in Lattimore.

  10. Resigning our own will not brake the bank and yes your right we need to take care of the line first but how many linemen do yall think we need, the way I see it we need a G and T maybe a Center although I think Shipley should have a chance at the #1 spot but we dont need 4 or 5 new O-linemen I see no reson why we cant take care of both the line and RB position this offseason as well as other needs, lets not forget our GM has a nack for finding good talented kids that can ball and wont hit us hard in cap space. The one thing I dont want to see us do is not go after anyone in FA and draft a RB in the late rounds like we did with Ballard and yes Ballard was a great pick for us but like I said he needs help, We can joke and say just do this and be down with it and thats cool but im tired of use being a team that puts all our eggs in one basket, key word in my last post better value in the running back position we started the season with Brown, Ballard, Carter and Moore and ended the season with really just Ballard, I dont think we can win the big show without a strong running attack and its not as easy as just picking up a late round RB and we are done. We got lucky with Ballard but running the ball helps a QB most importantly in January and February. Im all for fixing the line but lets not just dwell on the line and take a close evaluation of every position.

  11. I like most of the posts on this topic, the line will be largly upgraded this offseason as will the DBs but I bring this up every offseason and there is always someone that tells me why we dont need this, but I would love to see us go after a RB. Ballard is a good back and I like him but he cant do it all on his own,I could tell just how gassed he was by the end of the game when he droped the pass out in the flats wide open in the loss last Sunday. Brown is ok but can't stay healthy and I said that at the beginning of the season when everyone was talking about Brown being an every down back and Carter is a joke. A big name WR is not the answer although a tall, big wide out would only help but I think more so a RB would help Luck more then a wide out. Lets take the ball out of Luck's hand a few plays rather then asking him to do it all, Guys like Wilson and RG3 had such a good season but both had one thing in common, the running game. The Skins and seahawks were in the top 5 in rushing yards. We strongly need a back who can get those few short hard tough years in the red zone. we had most of our issues this season in the red zone and I know Luck was a rook and we had serious line issues but lets face it outside of Ballard who else can we trust with the rock? Back in 06 Addai was a rook and Rhodes had some tred left on them tires we won it all which that running game really helped Manning out on our Super Bowl run. I fear if we dont find greater value in the RB position we will not get to the big show until Luck reaches his prime.I dont care if we find a back in the draft or FA, their will be a few guys out there, guys like Steven Jackson, Hillis, Mendenhall, Bush to name a few and the draft you have Bell,Ball,Lacy could be their in the 2nd round I would even take a good hard look at Lattimore in the later rounds due to his injury he will be huge for a team once back to 100%

  12. We need a OT,OG and a RB on offense and maybe a WR. On D we need a SS,CB two OLB and a NT or DE. Our biggest needs are O-line and CB they must be upgraded but I have to say that I haven't changed from my first opinion before the season started and thats the need of a 1- 2 punch from the running back position and I think we found the 2 punch in Ballard, now we just need to find the 1 punch. Steven Jackson is a FA and we could just keep Brown.

  13. Well first off we will only be looking at FA and the Draft, and I'm sure a large amout of FA would be willing to play for the Colts but what makes it so fun is the fact that we have a good amount of money to pick up more players then we have ever seen this team go out and get. This will be a very fun offseason, but their is no reason to go after huge big name players hell we don't need them, but if we spread that money out and get a number of good starters we will have something great.

  14. This team will only get better with time and the more we put around Luck the better he will be I expect Luck to have a breakout season next year if we can get the o-line fixed and a WR thats at the least 6 foot 2. There is a chance we loose more games next year but if that happens it will be because of a harder schedule

  15. Well to me when I look at the whole picture I dont see how anyone can say Luck isnt #1 for ROY. Lets make this easy, if RG3 had been drafted to the colts would we be 7-4 or better just think about it could RG3 do all the things the Colts have asked Luck to do. Think about all the things Luck has had to deal with from being on the worst team to missing training camp time in the offseason due to Stanfords quarter system to replacing Manning to playing with lots of rookies which mean less vets on the team. Remember and this is key, the Colts were the #1 pick in the draft the skins before the trade were what 8 or 9. Out of all of the Colts losses there is only one game we shouldnt of lossed and that was against the Jags but the Redskins have losses against the Rams,Bengals and panthers. RG3 still has time but its clear Luck might not have the stats but so far he has the wins and the Colts chances of making the playoffs are very strong, not to mention Luck has more wins than any other rookie in NFL history.

  16. Huh we are moe than likely to go OLB since dwight freeney is leaving us, just like we got andrew luck when we let go of manning, only makes sense to go olb and as i know of their isnt a great supply of pass rushers in the fa so you can count that out. and we got zib granted not the greatest but does make it to where it isnt are greatest need.....cb we will probably go 2nd and maybe 4th or 5th but that also depends on if we want to get a O-linemen. so who knows more than likely we will try to fix that in fa since that will be a lil easier than trying to get a good cb

First off we don't have a 2nd round pick as of right now, gave that up for V.Davis. Second there are some good FA 3-4 OLB that will hit the market, you might want to google that. Third I really think Freeney will take less money to try an finish his career as a Colt. You say this is similar to the way we let Manning go for Luck but I dont see how you came up with that one maybe you can help me understand cause we wont have a top 15 or 20 pick as it stands right now, plus we had no choice but to go after a QB, we were parting ways with Manning due to health whick made QB our biggest need, I really don't think OLB is our biggest need even with Freeney hitting the market after the season. The truth is Freeney is in the first year of this new scheme. We need to try an resign him to a team friendly deal and get another OLB in FA, we need three good pass rushers and Freeney not been bad this season he just doesnt have the sacks we are use to seeing but he has been very disruptive. BUT the same big weakness of last year still remains CB,SS. Thats were we will be looking to go in the draft, DBs is were our biggest need is, and with Davis our only true CB with Powers hitting the open market and Zib is better then what we have had in the past but he is a good back up at best. You cant rush the passer if the CBs cant cover...
  17. I say we go CB in the first round and SS in the third, here are a list of first round ccanidates at CB Demarcus milliner,David Amerson,Johnthan Banks and maybe Xavier Rhodes. Only two SS Vaccaro and McDonald. The second round on most mock drafts are loaded with DBs and hey you never know we may trade out of the first round but I would love for us to get any of the CB I just listed even Poyer manilly because we can get an ok CB out of FA as well but SS to me is very important, I would love to see us get Tony Jefferson to me he fits what we are trying to do but time will tell.

  18. The worst thing to happen to the Texans was when they were put in our division, sure they are having some success in which they are due one good season or two, but the truth is after this year we will be back to the powerhouse we were a few years back so if the Texans want to win a SB they better get it this year because the colt will be a very dangerous team after this year. No we will not draft based off what the Texans can do, we will draft off need and best available player. One thing about the Colts we worry about us. We will follow the same method in the offseason that we do in the season,One game at a time, the offseason one step at a time and the goals is not to be one step ahead of the Texans, but one step ahead of 31 other teams and we will be there in a very short time.

  19. O and I fully expect us to draft DBs in the first and third rounds SS,CB which is the biggest area of need on this team everything else will be upgraded through FA, we have a LOT of money to spend and if we spend wisely the number of FA we bring in could very well be historic!!!

  20. Freeney is useless NOW. I could easily see us move for a pass rusher.

Freeney is far from useless, and to think we will find someone in FA with Freeney's skill set and experience is crazy. I understand we as fans are looking for results now but the truth is when adopting a new scheme from 4-3 to 3-4 the OLB position is one of the hardest positions to change after doing it one way for so many years. The key in the offseason is to get stronger and parting ways with Freeney will not make use stronger. At the OLB position what we need is a 3rd but good OLB to team up with Mathis and Freeney similar to what R,Brock was for us a few years ago. The only way I see us going in different directions with Freeney is the amount of money he may ask for, then yes he will not be back but if we can sign him to a team friendly contract he will stay but I honestly think Freeney wants to stay in Indy...
