  1. Brady is having an impressive year and I do think he the MVP of his team moreso than Manning but Manning deserves the MVP hands down even if the Pats get the 1 seed over the Broncos. I do think Bill gets coach of the year if the Pats are 1 seed.

They'll never give BB coach of the year although he deserves it. The Patriots organization is held to different standards than the rest.

  2. Brady could steal MVP from Peyton

In a year that inevitably will feature Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning bogarting the single-season touchdown pass record from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Brady could return the favor when it’s time to tally the MVP votes.

And here’s where we begin the annual process of pointing out the deep and profound flaws with the “official” awards process to which the Associated Press stubbornly clings. It’s an all-or-nothing system based on a narrow pool of only 50 voters, most of whom cover only one team and some of whom shouldn’t have a vote for other reasons.

Last year, those 50 voters got it right, giving the MVP to Adrian Peterson after he willed the Vikings to the playoffs and nearly broke the single-season rushing record. For weeks, most assumed that Manning would win it in a landslide.

This year, that same assumption has applied. But with the Chargers once again finding a way to bedevil Manning and the Patriots now in position to swipe the No. 1 seed from the Broncos, Brady deserves serious consideration for the honor.

Brady’s stats don’t compare to Manning’s. But in the only stat that ever really matters — points scored vs. points allowed — Brady’s team could end up surpassing Manning’s.

Taking away the quarterbacks, which team is objectively better? On offense, it’s undoubtedly Denver. Brady has been dealing with injuries, inexperience, and at times incompetence.

While Brady’s passing skills arguably have begun to diminish, he now has a chance to do what has been throughout the season unthinkable. Brady can help the Patriots secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, forcing Manning and company to return to Foxboro for yet another cold-weather elimination game after which Peyton possibly won’t be telling people to shove things where the sun don’t shine.

Last year, Manning had to settle for offensive player of the year. This year, Manning may end up winning “only” the offensive player of the year award.

  3. It's very odd. I hope they don't die of a broken heart if he wins another playoff game this year.

Even odder this is the only board I visit. Oh well it beats than having a crack addiction.

Peyton can't beat crack in the cold.

  4. The 2006 Colts were tested more than the 2005 Colts. But talent wise, the 2005 Colts was probably much better and most of us Colts fans could attest to that.

The 2001 Patriots team was not the best team in the league along the same lines but they were gritty. The best or great teams do not win the SB most of the time.

Good post and ringing with truth. Give me a gritty team any day of the week and twice on SB Sunday.

  5. Like I said, this loss was what they needed going into the postseason to re-focus. Now, they will be hearing it for a LONG time, for about 10 days, the defense, as to why they couldn't get off the field. Sometimes, a loss at the end of the season lights a fire bigger than a win. Ask the 2006 Colts, 2012 Ravens who lost 3 out of their last 4 and 4 out of their last 5 respectively, and how their Ds responded in the playoffs to help out their O.

The Patriots loss was supposed to refocus them.

  6. It doesn't really change. They are a high powered offense that outscores everyone, and stands on a leg of it's own. They are a defense that relies on the offense to put up 40 points. The defense needs to rely ON THE DEFENSE.

If Peyton puts up 40 every game, which he can, they can make it to the Super Bowl. But what really needs to happen is JDR and his defense need to find themselves.

Every PO bound team needs the D to step up.

  7. 2005 Steelers - 7-2 start, 11-5 finish as #6 seed, win SB

    2006 Colts - 9-0 start, 12-4 finish as #3 seed, win SB

    2007 Giants - 6-2 start, 10-6 finish as #5 seed, win SB

2008 Steelers - Consistent from start to finish to finish 12-4, won SB

2009 Saints - 13-0 start, lose last 3, win SB

2010 Packers - 6-2 start, injuries lead to 10-6 record, rally as #6 seed to win SB

2011 Giants - 6-2 start, 9-7 record as #4 division winner, win SB

2012 Ravens - 9-2 start, lose 3 out of last 5, end up 11-5 as #4 seed, win SB

EDIT: Correction, 2012 Ravens lost 4 out of last 5 to finish 10-6

All of them have this in common, a 6-2 start at least, suffer a few bumps and bruises, but rally to win

It has been rare to see a team not have a loss in its last 5 games win the SB since the 2003 Patriots.

This loss might actually turn out to be good for the Broncos in the long run along the following reasons. This will give a reason to re-focus, play out the season without resting starters and stay in rhythm more so on the offensive side while getting defensive starters healthy and ready.

Unlike the 2005 season where the Peyton led Colts were 13-0 and lost to the Chargers, this 13 game home streak also snapped by the Chargers for the Broncos has less of an impact on the offensive rhythm due to the fact that the Chiefs and Patriots will still be in the mix forcing the Broncos to play it out. Long term, this loss would be the best thing to have happened to the Broncos.

Those were all great teams except for the Giants. They sucked.

  8. So no hitting in the knees, and no hitting above the shoulders.  So in a matter of milliseconds, defensive players will have to see where the offensive player is, determine his position and velocity and their own position and velocity, then adjust their body to hit in a proper area making sure they avoid the knees and avoid going up high?  Just watch...this will then lead to internal bleeding, which will then cause the NFL to bring in a rule where you can't tackle them in the gut.  It's getting ridiculous.

Not only that, but I could see this leading to more injuries to defensive players because they will continually have to reposition their bodies (many times awkwardly) to avoid a penalty, which could leave them in a vulnerable position.  You mean to tell me you expect a 5'10, 185 lbs Darius Butler to tackle a 6'6", 265 lbs Gronkowski by hitting him in the gut?

I agree enough is enough. I had to laugh though because a hit to the body is what put Tom Brady on the fast track to 5 SB's to date and the HOF.

  9. To think they almost let him walk last offseason... it took me a little while to come around on Edelman but they'd be in trouble without him right now!

He's always shown flashes of talent but this has been his first season where he's had a chance to be a major contributor. He's also stayed healthy, which has helped.

I wonder how much of Amendola's deal was guaranteed. They may end up cutting him and giving the money to Edelman instead.

I still see Amendola being a major contributor. I think he clicks this week and going forward. I focused on him quite a bit last week and he ready right now.

  10. Because they were all enamored with the size of DT and rolling safety help to him, maybe???  :)

But then not many teams have Talib and Brandon Flowers to play DT 1-on-1 and not till the 2nd Chiefs game did Decker really come alive, IMO. He was running routes in full speed in that game, slightly different than previous games, just an observation.

    Point taken.

  11. It is also a product of how teams are playing him. The 2 games vs the Chiefs and the Patriots game showed me how teams were rolling their double teams towards Welker and the ones who reaped the rewards were Decker, Julius Thomas (game 1 vs Chiefs before he went down for 2 games at Pats and at Chiefs) and Demaryius Thomas who had single coverage almost all the time.

It has nothing to do with confidence, you are reaching because you are on a mission to undermine Welker since the beginning of the season. You are just bitter towards him, hands down. :)

Smart move by the Patriots and Chiefs to double him. Why did someone else figure that out?

  12. And as usual the Pats saw the writing on the wall before everyone else. A receiver at age 32 that had taken as many hits as Welker has is bound to break down.

I just have a feeling that he's going to get another concussion or serious injury before the Donk's bow out of the PO's. NFL players are sharks and blood is in the water.
