  1. Maybe the fact that he wasn’t healthy in 4 of his 6 seasons played a part in the decision making?
  2. In free agency? The most notable one is Risner who played pretty good for Denver. But if we keep Kelly, then it’s possible we’d address RG in the draft with one of the Day 2 picks the Colts have. 35 or 79?
  3. I believe Ballard has almost always sat out the first weekend after the first week. So I wouldn’t expect him to sign anyone today. Not saying he won’t, only dealing with the expectations game. I’d think it was much more likely to sign someone tomorrow. And I think it’s hard for all of us to know who Ballard will sign based on his past offensive signings. Many of those I’d think were tied to Frank. Ballard has a new HC now, and I don’t think it’s clear who Steichen might want in week 2 of free agency? Just sayin….
  4. Yup. I think the Watson deal will be remembered for a very long time. But for all the wrong reasons. And it should be noted that Brady often re-did his deal to free up cap space to help the Patriots. How’d that workout for him?!?
  5. This feels like a good time to tell this Pat Mahomes story….. I’ve got Sirius XM radio in my car, and I recently heard this story and more in connection with the ongoing Alexander situation…. The day the Mahomes contract was announced a few years ago it was denounced by basically all agents. Way, WAY too team friendly. **Only a $10 mill signing bonus?!? **Only $61 mill guaranteed at signing?!? **Only $141.5 total guaranteed?!? **Lots of early outs. This story came from Pat Kirwin, himself a former high level NFL Exec. He’s a co-host on Moving the Chains afternoon show. 3-6 eastern time. Agents were saying they would NEVER sign their client to such a team friendly deal. And that if they did, they’d expect to be fired soon enough. Bottom line…. The deal was done this way because Mahomes has bought into the team concept to a very high level. He’s expecting the flexibility that is built in to his contract will give his team the best chance to remain competitive for the long haul. The team will still be able to plow money back into the franchise to stay very competitive. What Cleveland did with Watson has made business far FAR more difficult for the other 31 teams. Also…. Kirwin has shared that part of the reason teams are NOT making offers on Alexander is that they think Baltimore will match most any offer and keep Lamar. And that making an offer only helps Baltimore dealing with Lamar. “Why should we help them?” is the thought teams have. Let Baltimore struggle to deal with Lamar and his mom and his NFLPA reps. He’s needed a real agent for the last two years and has only badly hurt himself with how he’s handled his contract for several years.
  6. Ok… I checked both Spotrac and Over The Cap for the Mahomes contract. The details are almost identical. 10 years. $450 million $10 mill signing bonus. Guaranteed at signing: $63.1m Total Guaranteed: $141.5m So the total guaranteed for Pat Mahomes, the best QB in football, is not quite 1/3 of the contract. NOTE: I’ve made an important correction. The last line on the contract details should NOW read: Total GUARANTEED: Now corrected.
  7. No. The Mahomes contract is NOT fully guaranteed. Not even close. I don’t think it’s even 50 percent guaranteed. I’ll try to get some numbers and add them here.
  8. Not sure you realize that you’re stating as FACT that an offer of Taylor and Kelly would be accepted to move up. I don’t think there’s anyway to know. And you keep thinking that this is entirely a Ballard decision alone. Steichen, Irsay and others are all involved in this.
  9. I saw a post earlier today saying 3/19 is a key deadline for both Kelly and Moore. But I looked at both Spotrac and Over The Cap and I saw no date listed for either. So I’m asking…. Is this date confirmed? And do we know how and by whom?
  10. Thank you. I thought that was the case, but just wanted to make sure.
  11. Moose….. what do you want me to take away from this link? You connected it to my last post, but I don’t know what one has to do with the other? Sorry…. I’m not following?
  12. Honestly…. I like Skoronski, but I don’t love him. I’d prefer him at guard or center. His arms came in shorter than expected…. 32 1/4. That’s what Smith has on the right side. Raimann had a very good 2nd half of the season. Ballard said his future is LT.
  13. What is happening here is what I have said would happen if the Colts acquired a RT and forced Smith to play guard. His agent would quickly ask for a trade. So I don’t see Smith moving inside unless it’s for an emergency.
  14. Yes, I’d be interested in McKenzie. A small super quick guy who Buffalo once liked? I think he’s worth a very modest contract to see what he might bring.
  15. Now THAT’S a classy thank you and goodbye! Well done, Stephon!
  16. Maybe. But LJ has cost himself tens and tens of millions of dollars. And if he leaves Baltimore odds are he’ll end up in a worse situation, not better. He’s been his own worst enemy.
  17. Maybe I missed it? I haven’t seen it in this thread. But Mike Geisicki, the Miami TE, is now a New England Patriot. Signs a 1-year deal.
  18. Jared…. You make an interesting point and maybe you’re right. Maybe. But I’d note this…. Both Philly and Indianapolis had the same choice. Both players were available. And each team made their respective choices. And Sirianni knows Minshew as good as Steichen. So it would appear both the Colts and Eagles would disagree with you. Just sayin….
  19. Maybe I’m not understanding you? If Hurts were lost for the entire season, you think Minshew (if he were the Philly backup) would win more games in a full 17 game season than Mariotta? I don’t. Forget the contract, all things being equal, I think Mariotta is the better QB. He might lead the Eagles to 8-10 wins. Minshew might win 6-8 games. I think Marriott has the higher ceiling and floor. But factoring everything in…. I think Mariotta is with the right team. The backup for a playoff caliber team. And Minshew is also with the right team. The backup with a team that’s re-tooling this year. Each player is with the right team. Just my two cents.
  20. Who says Baltimore isn’t in full Win-now mode?!? Aren’t the Ravens one of the best run franchises year in and year out?!? They are to me. First Ozzie and now DeCosta are top GMs. John Harbaugh is an excellent HC. They have top coordinators. Why are they to blame for not winning more? Jackson has been hurt both of the last two seasons and missed considerable time. I think Baltimore is as well run a franchise as there is. If they’re playing hard ball with Lamar — and they are — I think there is darn good reason. I support Baltimore far more than I do Jackson. I think LJ is young and immature and has mismanaged his own career very badly. My two cents.
  21. While I agree with this basically, you’ve written an entire post about which QB the Colts might take without mentioning the person who ultimately might make the final decision — Shane Steichen. Honestly, I think at the very least, Steichen gets a lot of input. And he might get the final call. At the moment, none of us knows…. Just saying.
  22. I’m not sure anyone knows enough about Steichen to know that the offense he wants to run is EXACTLY the one Alexander thrives in. I thought the takeaway on Steichen is that the Colts believe he can win with almost ANY style of offense? Am I misunderstanding your viewpoint?
  23. I’ll take a guess as to the possible (probable?) issue with Isaac Seumalo, this is what I think the holdup is…. The guy has played 6 seasons, and in those seasons, here are his rough snap breakdowns from PFF.., — 2 seasons of 1100+ snaps — 2 seasons of 500-600 snaps — 2 seasons of 100-300 snaps. So he has played only 2 full seasons out of 6. And 2 half seasons due to injury. And 2 fractional seasons due to injury. 2 out of 6 good seasons. And he likely wants 10m+ per year. That may be why we’re wrapping up Day 4 and a guy viewed as the top guard is still out there — unsigned. Just food for thought….
