WTH!! Banner got Waived! I don't care how bad he may of struggled. You don't cut a 4th round pick you just drafted. Even if the plan is to put him on the practice squad, the odds of him getting claimed are too high. Our O-Line also isn't good enough to cut mid-rounders either. We aren't the Cowboys, in a situation where a pick failed to impress where they knew he'd never make an impact. This O-line, for all intensive purposes is not very good still. Ballard made a dumb move here, regardless of how Banner turns out.

I have a hunch Banner clears waivers and ends up on the PS.  He didn't seem NFL ready and for some team to claim him he would have to be on their roster.  If he's not NFL ready, what team can stash him on their roster for an entire season.  The bad move involving Banner might have been drafting him too high.  Of course I'm no scout and my judgement that he's not NFL ready might be totally off base.

I really loved what I had seen of Chris Ballard so far.  Then this trade happened.....

So the Colts trade away a former #1 pick who has potential to the Patriots for a QB who is a marginal third string QB who might not have even made the team.  I don't think he is even has good as Morris.  So what do you gain??  Dorsett for a LB or a pass rusher makes sense.  Even for a mid level draft pick.  But guys like Brissett are a dime a dozen, IMHO.  Now Dorsett will do wonders for NE and we got a QB who will likely get cut the minute Luck can play again.  Wow!

NE thought enough of Brissett to take him at #91 in the 3rd rounds last year (5th QB overall).  If you take 6 minutes to view the youtube link posted 4 after yours, you'll see Brissett's 5 TD performance Thursday night against the Giants.  It might make you feel a little better, or maybe it won't.

But how many points were given up?

7 points on a 78 yard drive. Followed by 75 yards, then a fumble inside the 10 on the second drive.   The strip by Simon was about the only encouraging play on those opening drives.  You were praising the defense against the cowboys 1st team, and I just didnt see it in those two drives with the 1st team.  Did you see the game?

And 2 of those games were against the Steelers and cowboys, both potent offenses that are not being rebuilt on the fly.

I wouldn't use the Cowboys as an example of the first team defense playing well in pre-season.  Dallas was crushing the first team defense on the first two drives to the tune of 150 yards on about 12 plays before fumbling inside the 10.    The turnover by the D was nice, but the Cowboys were getting chunk yards almost every play for the first two drives against the first team defense.

I'm hopeful for the defense and feel they could surprise as the season progresses, but the start of the Cowboys game gave me pause.

I like you Jared but you are way off on this. Cubs fans have been loyal for 30/40 years, some more than that. They even sell out games in May when they sucked.

Yep, there are plenty of very loyal long time Cubs fans.  Especially those in central Indiana who were able to pick of fuzzy games from WGN over antenna or listen to crackly AM radio (where sometime there was so much static you could barely make out the occasional "Hey, hey" and wonder who hit it).    I am one of those fans who was adjusting the antenna with a wrench or listening to WGN AM to get every game I could starting around 1969.

Let the medical team clear Luck when they feel he can practice/compete and not reinjure himself.  There's no timetable.  It is when it is. Luck knows this, and so should you. For all we know, it could be any day now. But Dr. Chao also says that there is another 3-4 week hill to climb once he's cleared. I would rather have luck for the next ten years rather than just the first few games on 2017 by pushing it/him to early/fast.

The bolded quote is a reason I think it's reasonable for the OP to make the point that the PUP decision may not be a slam dunk.  I might have missed the other threads on the same topic, but it seems to be a reasonable thing to discuss on a Colts fan forum.  I don't understand the criticism for starting the thread.

  7. You should qualify the title to say "Is the Colts FO tanking this year".   Even then I don't buy it.  I can't imagine any Colts player (or any professional athlete for that matter) would intentionally *tank* even a single play, let alone a season.

If Luck misses a significant amount of time and/or the OL has additional setbacks, it could be a lost season, but not because the players or coaches *tanked*.

I think we're going to be a very difficult team to get a good read on for quite some time.      As long as Luck is out,  and Gore is being held out,  and the line is dealing with some pre-season dents and dings,    it's going to be a long stretch of very poor play.

I have the same feeling that things could be ugly on the offense as they work through OL and QB issues.  I'll be watching for signs of hope on the OL in the preseason, as my biggest doubts are with the OL. Of course preseason wins are meaningless, but you hope to see signs of progress with the weaker areas of the team.

I'll also be watching for signs of something special developing on the defensive side.  I'm somewhat optimistic that the defensive is going to show significant improvement and may emerge as an exciting unit as the season progresses.

My gut feeling is that the defense will be a pleasant surprise this year and we might be asking ourselves 'what might have been' had the offense been healthy early in the season.

  9. rI'm glad they are able to get this insurance.   But, he still loses a lot more then $500,000 due to the injury.  Comparing TJ Green's $4.2M vs. Morrisons $2.8M shows about how much is lost be being chosen late in 4th vs. mid 2nd.

Yikes.....     do you recall who made that projection?

I've often said there's a LOT of really bad websites that try to do mock drafts.....     I wonder which one this was?

I don't recall who it was, but it was an early mock before the start of the college season -- like the 2018 mock draft that walterfootball has out now.

I've posted a number of times that CBS Sports called Nassib the number one prospect in the entire draft in December of the year he came out.   Not the top QB,  the top overall prospect.   5 months later he went in the 4th round.

Several years ago I recall one of the really early mock drafts had Curtis Painter as the #1 overall pick.
