You broke the forum for a minute there, congrats.
Yeah, that was weird. I started going into withdrawal. It was horrible.

Walter is a fish in the movie On the Golden Pond.....Could it be Golden Tate?
That's... a bit of a stretch, really...
-
Looks like Nate Dunleavy, from BR. Sad that I know that
Not that sad, I recognized him too.
Well, actually, I recognized him because at first I thought it was Ewan McGregor, then I remembered that he and Dunlevy kinda look alike (especially in that picture of Nate).

I have my celebration gif ready.
I'm thinking that I'm gonna get some mileage out of these smilies:

Randy Moss was drafted in 1998.....
Too tenuous a connection there.
-
in a few minutes we are on pace for our next Irsay tweet
On pace for a coronary IMO...
-
Dude I quoted said it was a trade that was falling through, if that is case then it's not Cruz....
Irsay never said it was a trade. Unless the guy you quoted is actually working on the deal himself, why are you assuming that he's correct and I'm not?
Anyway, I have no idea what that last tweet means. Way over my head.
-
I know this is not Jeremy Maclin. You don't refer to him as a "whopper". Period
Maybe a Whopper Jr.
-
If that's the case then it's not Cruz he's a RFA, no trade needed...
Nobody said it's a trade.
-
Irsay said something about voodoo in his last tweet, which is like magic, so I think we need magic for this trade to work
Yeah, we're trading for Aaron Afflalo.
-
Come on Jim, I got crap to do tomorrow. -.-
-
I wonder if Jim tells agents "Oh, hey, I'm live tweeting this conversation, but don't worry, I'm being deliberately obtuse and cryptic."
-
Enough with the bloody metaphors Jim!
-
Great news everyone, we're gonna sign Mohamed Massaquoi!
-
I bet most of us are gonna staying up all night for more speculation of this Colts deal
.
Someone tell Irsay to get this stuff done at a non-ridiculous hour of the day.
Why's he gotta do all these signings and trades at like 2 in the morning?
-
Satele
So addition by subtraction basically?
lol, but seriously, would we actually save much/any cap space by cutting him loose?
-
Can someone tell me how we are out of cap space? Yesterday the peeps on here were saying we had 12-15 million left?
We do have some money, we're just trying to figure out what draft picks cost and stuff like that.
-
So Dan Graham suggested that if we tried to clear up cap space to front load a deal for Cruz, that it would come from the O-line... thoughts?
Which part of the O-line?
If it's the correct part, I'm down with it.
GoColts8818, i see that point but isnt he a better option than what we could pick up at our current draft position? I am all for what ever makes us better. Hey, who the heck knows what they are up to. LOL
Yeah, this is the point. Cruz is a guy with production you would hope to get from a mid-first rounder, but much less risk than the draft itself entails. He'll cost more, obviously, but if you can make the money work it's the right decision.
-
For the record, trading (or losing via RFA tender, functionally the same thing) a first round pick for a young player who has proven they can produce at a first-round level is a good deal.
Trading a first round pick is only a really bad move when its for a guy who either can't produce at a first round level, or is old. A young player with first-round production is, theoretically, worth more than a first round pick, because there's less risk.
-
He's certainly competent enough that, as long as the backs don't get hurt again, he won't be losing games for his defense like the last few guys were.
Side note, it's the 2007 NFL Draft QB edition of "Where Are They Now?"
JaMarcus Russell: Unemployed (and attempting a lolworthy comeback)
Brady Quinn: Unemployed
Kevin Kolb: Unemployed
John Beck: Unemployed
Drew Stanton: Starting for the Cardinals
Trent Edwards: 4th string QB with the Eagles
Isaiah Stanback: Now a backup WR for the Jaguars with 6 total NFL catches.
Jeff Rowe: Unemployed
Troy Smith: Unemployed
Jordan Palmer: Unemployed
Tyler Thigpen: Unemployed

Bethea needs to have a good year before we start talking about re-signing him. If he can't get back to form with Landry back there with him, and with an improved secondary, then maybe we can do better.
True.
I do think a Dumervil deal could make sense cap-wise, in any case, as long as it expires prior to us having to re-up Luck (assuming we're talking a backloaded contract for Elvis), which is something we definitely have to plan for. In the short term, though, it ought to be manageable.
-
so we do have enough currently to get Dumervil since our cap is only 104MM. He absolutely Excelled as the Rush OLB in Nolan's 3-4
Pretty much.
The issue isn't so much this year as it is down the line. Now, I don't see us re-signing Brown or McGlynn, so that's a few million off the books there, maybe we can get cheaper at those spots, but ultimately there's the possibility that signing Dumervil might end up just having the effect of making it unlikely we re-sign Bethea (especially with Davis' contract ending after next season too). Angerer and Moala are the other notable guys for the next offseason IMO.
That's speculative, of course, and I think I'm comfortable with that trade-off anyway, even though I still probably like Bethea more than most people here do after the most recent season.
-
And as a side note, we totally need to get the Broncos back for claiming Holliday out from under us.
-
Yikes, that got screwed up fast.
And I think yes, absolutely, in a heartbeat.

If that had gone on 15 or 20 more seconds I might have stabbed someone.
Close shave there.
