  1. Lots of good, young OG options... Hopefully some of them hit the market... Same at WR and RB...

Not a lot to like about the FA OT market... Maybe Solder comes here (I know he's slightly older [30 next season, I think] than Ballard would probably prefer) with McDaniels. He is servicable, even solid and shouldn't cost what a younger, more athletically gifted FA Tackle would.

I think we can get a decent RT in the draft with our 2nd round pick, but Tackles rarely play well out of college.

  2. I'd be alright with trading with the Bills for their top 4 picks... The caveat being that we would also have to look for a deal to unload some of our late picks as there will be only so many roster spots for rookies...

5 picks in the first two rounds, plus the excess capital to move back up if need be and target players that Ballard really likes. I could see a multiple trade scenario giving Indy 3 picks in round 1 if the chips fall just right.

  3. Love Chuck... I really wish it could have worked.

I was at the game (against Buffalo) in Indy where he showed up at LOS before returning to the sidelines after Leukemia treatment. Crowd went wild.

I was proud to be a Colts fan that day.

I'll almost miss the cliche-fillled interviews...  it'd be nice to get back to winning, though.

    Good luck Chuck.

  4. I know I keep saying it, but I just get the feeling that Ballard is flying all over the country, interviewing candidates in secret, while the local media parks outside Colts complex looking for Saban (or whoever) to drive up...

I'm just finding it hard to believe that he isn't doing multiple interviews a day (one in a given day has only been reported) when in Indy. Also, that days are going by with no interviews doesn't ring true to me. I can't believe that Ballard would halt the process to wait for McDaniels to decide and leave himself open to the possibility that he withdraws... He is more shrewd than that, I hope.

  5. If we are looking to improve the pass rush through the draft this offseason, there is Chubb, Key, and little else (depending on how you feel about Landry).

I'm sure that there are guys that Ballard has scouted who I don't know a lot about, but, with Ferrell(sp) likely returning to school, all I see are developmental prospects outside of the top half of round 1... Slim pickins, but next draft should be much better for Edge guys from what I can tell.

  6. I'm not convinced that Ballard has made a choice yet, but it is possible...

I mean, what if J. McD and the Colts have an agreement, in principle and, at the end of that meeting, McD hands over a list of guys to look at for positions on the staff (coordinators and position coaches)... or even emails one later...

Suppose Matt Rhule was a name on that list...

Now suppose there was a third coach on the grassy knoll. :hat:

We all have seen that JB lacks touch on short throws and holds the ball too long... Those seem like issues that can be corrected with experience and proper coaching...

You can't teach arm strength. His ability to drop the ball into his receivers' hands on deep throws is close to elite, in my view.

I do think that Brissett is a future starter in the league... Maybe never a top 10 QB, but he reminds me of Flacco, who has carved out a good career for himself, despite his many shortcomings.

I'd take him over any QB in the upcoming draft not named Rosen, but that might just be me... There is a reason they don't pay me to evaluate players.

  8. I'd have to assume that Ballard doesn't know who he's drafting or whether or not we are going to trade until we see who the first two picks are... or at least after FA when he knows what the team needs are...

I'm sure he has run the various scenarios in his mind, but it would be crazy to (for an illustrative example) sign a RB like Le'Veon Bell, then draft Barkely at #3.... No way to know, yet.

  9. I get the impression that McDaniels is more of an x's and o's guy than a leader.

Maybe that is what the team needs, but I think Ballard will go with more of a player developer who will hire coordinators with expertise. I don't feel that "playcalling" is going to be as important to our search for a HC as other qualities, such as leadership, connections in the league, and overall vision of the future in Indy.

I could obviously be wrong, but I don't see McDaniels having the personality that Ballard is looking for... He would be a great OC candidate if he wasn't so sought after for HC positions.

  10. Idk... With the right deal, Ballard could conceivably trade further down and grab future picks, then package them to move back up in the 1st and still come out way ahead in value per the chart...

Future 1st rounders might not be anything to scoff at in either case... Hypothetically, of course.

Wow, you're in early for Worst Post of 2018 and it's only the 2nd day of the year. Congrats!

    Hehe... Thanks!

I never won anything before, but my guess is that recency bias will make somebody else's post look worse by December...

I need to toss back a few and write dumb stuff around Thanksgiving to ensure victory, or at least save my "Colts should leave Indy" post for future shaming...

I can see it now: "we should draft who?... Werent you the guy who wants the Colts to leave?"

FWIW, I am going to try to think before I post and see how that works out...

  12. I'm all for drafting this kid in a trade down scenario... I'm not sure how far down he will be available, but I think he would make a great addition to the LB core, for sure.

I think that either Smith, Nelson, Brown, or Key will be available around picks 10-12.... Would love to see Ballard get the player he wants most and still get to grab picks by trading down... Would also love to see a down and up, with Ballard gaining picks in a trade down, then using the extra draft capital to get as many top 50 picks as possible.

It's political grandstanding, it's annoying, but it's not exclusive to either team Coke or Pepsi. It wouldn't be Politics if some of them didn't engage in it.

I'm not trying to get into the weeds here (as this mere conversation is going to make most people here eye's roll), but I'd just say that despite the law being a bad idea (less laws please), your assertion that the Colts should leave the state because of it or as you said "the backwards politicians" (those same people who allocated the public largess for the stadium- they gave it to him, you and I didn't green light it) is simply put an overreaction if for no other reason than all 50 states have bad laws on the books.

"I don't like the law, so I'm taking my ball and going home"..

Seldom am I down with that tactic.

    You are right...

Sometimes I get a little punchy on long weekends (if ya catch my drift) and probably a bit reactionary...

I guess it shows that I haven't been happy with my representation in this state for some time, but others are right that the forum isn't really the place for it (despite it being Colts related in this instance).

Also, saying that the Colts should move out of Indiana was an overreaction on my part... Like someone said, the law won't pass. Also, I would cry grown man tears if the Colts left... I just read an article and visited the forum too quickly afterward, really.

I'm not going to get into this too far..I'll just leave you with this. Irsay got a free stadium from those same politicians.

He got the money for the stadium from you and I.

I don't think the legislation will pass, but imagine droves of Colts fans getting refunds because another team sits for the anthem... That would be a bonkers, yet likely outcome. Imagine how that legislation will affect our ability to sign FAs. Like I said, imagine how it would affect our chances of getting the SB back here.

Its the one of the dumbest things I've ever even heard of... and I have heard no rational arguments in favor of it. Its nonsensical SJW nonsense on par with what they have been doing at Berkely... and it would mean disaster for the Colts...

    Sorry...

Thought it was football related enough to slide. Also thought it would be hidden by this thread that i thought most wouldnt read through...

It should have its own thread, considering how much it could affect the future of the team, if passed, but I couldn't bring myself to start one...

Feel free to delete, mods... I wont complain.

  16. Time will tell. Not really getting the point of this thread, so I'll give a random, unrelated thought:

Hate to say it, but the Colts should leave Indiana. I've lived here my whole life, but the proposed legislation to give offended fans refunds of players kneel diring the anthem is so incredibly stupid that I can hardly stand it.

Good luck ever getting the SB back in Indy...We must have the dumbest state legislature in the country. I'd laugh about it if it wasn't so sad, unAmerican, racist, and pitiful.

This organization is too good for this backward state and its backward politicians. Yuck!
