"Bleep McDaniels" is the new "dilly dilly"
-
Would be awesome to get Norwell. I also love Landry as a compliment to T.Y.... Williamson would be my top FA LB target... adding him and Hitchenson could be a good way to round out the backers for the 4-3 (along with Simon)...
Adding all of these guys plus re-signing Melvin, Desir, Mewhort, and maybe Moncrief could be a good start toward building a beast on both sides of the ball. Allowing us to focus on playmakers and depth in the draft (which Ballard will do regardless, i suppose).

Sounds like FA tampering to me...
-
I thought we were all in agreement that Irsay shouldn't talk about Luck anymore... I have no problem with the fact that he didn't mention it.
I feel lucky to root for Irsay's team... He's a good one, in my book...

I did read a "get to know" type article on the Indy Star website that said that we had "reportedly" interviewed Toub. It was the first sentence of the article...
Not sure if it's true, or a typo, or what... Also not sure if it lends any credence to these rumors (probably not), but I do think it's strange that it was the only mention in all of the media I read about an interview...
Too lazy to link at the moment, and it probably means nothing, but it was basically a short profile of Toub that started with that statement.

Sometimes I think the organization just feeds Wells garbage for a laugh.
Other times, I think Brad's "sources" are the homeless people that sleep under the overpass outside LOS... and the statue guy.
Tough call, either way.

Pats will keep winning until BB leaves or retires. When that happens, they'll be the Browns... No need to sabotage, just build a better team than them and wait.
We trade Luck to Jax, they beat up on us for 10 years... In that scenario, who cares about the Patriots? We have to play Jax twice a year. I'm not in board with trading Luck (most aren't, I'd say), but if we do, it can't be to Jacksonville... Those 1st rounders would all be bottom 5 picks....
-
I'll bite...
For me, its Rosen or nobody.. I don't see another franchise QB in the draft... Other than possible developmental guys for a few years in the future.
Brissett is as good for the NFL as any of them, imo. Of course, my hope is that Luck comes back 100%

Have we already interviewed Toub? It said that we "reportedly" did in an indystar article from today, but I haven't seen it anywhere else.
I still lean toward Toub, despite the fact that I didn't know who he was until Ballard was hired and articles started to come out connecting him to the Indy HC gig. It doesn't bother me that he's a ST coach. He seems to be well respected around the league and has been on teams' radar for a HC position for a while now. I think that a lot of us soured on the idea because he didn't come in for an interview (for any team) and we had visions of Harbaughs, Shaws, and McDanielses dancing through our heads. I, for one, am not against revisiting the idea that Toub might be the guy... I'm certainly curious about who he would get to fill out the staff.
I'm not a fan of Campbell at the moment... He (reportedly) acted like a baby when he didn't get the HC job in Miami and just seems like a generally abrasive dude.
I can talk myself into Reich. It's really hard to quantify his role in Philly's success, but he is another guy that people in NFL circles seem to heap praise upon. I feel the same way about Defilippo, in general. It'd be nice to hire both, but somebody has to call plays. I suppose that's where Bevell's name keeps coming in.
I think we might be closer to "beggars can't be choosers" than "pick of the litter" at this point, though... Hiring Eberflus, Goog (I'm calling him goog from now on), and Phair (anyone remember Liz Phair?) certainly complicated matters... Hopefully it doesn't cost us the chance at our guy.

Ballard is a keeper...
I'm always amused by the profanity filter on this site... Some of the things you are allowed to say baffle me when I try to write "we could snatch up a player here or there" and it censors it.
I have nothing against profanity... just giggling to myself about the filters... not complaining, just think it's funny.
Carry on.
Edit: nvm... I guess you can say snatch now... Sry to waste yall's time.

What a cluster this has turned out to be...
I've been wrong about every assumption I've made so far this off-season, so I guess I ought not assume anymore.
I would hope that Irsay would eat these contracts and get new coaches if the new HC candidate needed that to happen. I know that it is a ton of money, but Irsay has never been a penny pincher in the past.
I don't see it as a loyalty issue or a moral thing at all... If they signed contracts, they will get paid... That is Indy's obligation to them and nothing more. McDingbat is the one who left them without a place on a coordinated staff. They should be mad at him, if anything. Mr. Irsay has to do what's best for the team. Ballard will surely convince him of this if it becomes a sticking point during negotiations with HC candidates... right?
Eberflus seems like a good coach from all accounts. I could see (not assuming) him being kept if the right guy is hired.
DeGuglielmo doesn't impress me much from what I've read... It's almost as if NE wanted to stick us with him as a part of their twisted scheme. I would definitely understand him being given a check and shown the door...
I have no opinion on Phair... I just don't really know anything about him.
This is so messed up... Hard to get your draft boards ready when you don't know what schemes will be run on both sides of the ball. Hard to know what FA to look for when you are still looking for a HC in mid February.
I'm sure that there is still time to do these things. I'm also positive that there are good HC prospects out there... It's just so frustrating to deal with being shafted by the Patriots for the umpteenth time... despite the fact that McDingus was never a lock to be anything other than a crappy HC to begin with.

Patriots are the scummiest team in all of sports...
I want revenge (in the only way that matters). Like "up 30 with 3 minutes to go in the 4th and still throwing long passes" revenge. I want to see Sheard stomp all over that goony Patriots logo in Fauxboro (lol) after whooping them in the AFCCG.
Wouldn't hurt my feelings to see matching cold sores on Brady and McDingle's faces, either.
When BB and Brady retire, McDummy's career will be on a death timer.
-
I'd love for it to finally be over, but I don't buy it.
Brady has played better in recent years than he did when he was in his athletic prime (not that he was ever very athletic, per se).
More importantly, they still have the best HC in football... One of the greatest coaches ever.
As much as I love seeing them lose, I think they will be contending for SBs until they stop having the best coach/QB combo in the league.
-
Indy signed like 6 or 7 WRs to futures deals...
Most of them have intriguing measurables, but this one seems to have the most personality.
-
Mostly love it...
There are some names i'd replace with players I like more, like B. Williams, Vuj, Darkwa, but most of these guys are coming back on the super cheap, so I can't say much... hopefully they wouldn't make the final 53.
I like the draft a lot, and I like the attention paid to the OL in FA and in the draft... all while still adding Chubb to the D.
If (by some miracle) we actually add this much young talent to the roster in one off-season, I can see Indy making a run at the division crown in 2018 and competing for the SB in the very near future.

I really don't watch the halftime shows much but was actually in Florida when we played the Bears in SB41 in a hotel room, so I watched that one. I thought Prince nailed it!
Haha... That's one way to put it..
I agree that it was a great performance. I'm a big fan, but... Prince did intentionally perform a lewd gesture behind a sheet using a custom guitar that was designed for just that purpose... It went unnoticed by many, but it happened nonetheless...

I want Justin Timberlake to have a good halftime show. I like Justin.
Oh and the game.......don't see the Pats losing this one right now. Or thats what my crystal ball says. The McDaniels thing still hasn't really sunk into my brain yet for some reason. Still feels odd to me .
I'm actually miffed that JT is doing the halftime show... Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be a great performance. However...
...not to be a soapbox guy, but Janet Jackson (an amazing performer in her own right) was banned from ever performing at an NFL event and had to publicly apologize for the "wardrobe malfunction" when it was clearly a choreographed event perpetrated by both parties (and others).
I didn't care about the incident... I thought Prince's performance the next year was at least 10 times as lewd. I just think that the response was extremely sexist. Why wasn't Timberlake publicly shamed and banned from performing? The t.v. network and NFL are showing their rear ends by letting Timberlake perform...
unless, of course, Janet makes a surprise appearance, as well.

Nope... Don't want to see Pats win...
McDaniels has nothing to prove as an OC. It won't mean anything to me if he calls the worst game of his life in this SB...
Ill root for him when he wears The Shoe...

Cassell, Garopollo and Brisset all did well in McDaniels system
when Brady went down. Having a pro bowl caliber QB isn't nearly as
important in his system as others.
5, 10, 15 yard passes are much easier to connect than 30 yarders.
We all hope Luck makes a full recovery.
All true... except I'm not entirely sure that JB is better at 5 yard throws than 30... As much as I think he's a future starter in the NFL, he showed almost zero touch on short throws this season... His deep ball is pretty, though.

Doyle deserves it, but we need depth behind him. Go TE in the fourth
While I agree with you that we need some TE depth, I still want to see what Swoope and Allie-Cox can develop into... Swoope, in particular, has shown that he might have some real potential...
Nothing wrong with adding competition and letting the cream rise, though.
-
I'm all for drafting Hurst... Assuming a pretty drastic trade down, though... Wouldn't want him over Fitz, Chubb, Key...
I'd rather have Nelson as well, but not at #3... Nelson, Hurst, and D. James are all picks I'd be ecstatic about around pick 10 or later in a trade scenario...
-
He's one heck of a player. I have read where some analysts don't think he has a true position in the NFL, but I think it's the exact opposite. The kid could probably excel at any role in the entire secondary and play some linebacker (a la Clayton Geathers) as well.
If we were to draft him, I think you try him at outside corner first, just because that position has the highest value, but a player (with the potential to be) that versatile can really help out our incoming DC in so many ways.
I like the way our secondary is shaking out with Hooker, Geathers, Wilson, and Hairston... All have size, all can cover... Fitz seems like a good fit, to me, regardless of whether or not we bring back Melvin and/or Desir this offseason.
-
I only have to pretend like I dont hate Patriots, Texans, and Titans when they come here as players or coaches...
Vrabel is all 3.
I have respect for him as a player and person, but he is a tried and true rival... I wish him only the Worst (as it relates to football) in his tenure with Tennessee.
-
Chubb over Barkely... There are a ton of really good RBs that will be available later...
Trade down... If not, it has to be a real playmaking stud at a premium position to be worth the pick, imo.

I suppose I'd be inclined to agree... That's pricey, for sure. I like Landry a lot, but Robinson for 6 mil. less a season is a far better deal, if those were the options.
