No way they make a run at 0-4 or 0-5, even in ithis division.  They really needed this game.  The Browns game is pretty much the season.  Lose it, and it's over.  Even if you win it, you are practically guaranteed to be 1-3 the following week.

I don't see how the Browns game could possibly be the season... And 1-3 still wouldn't be the end... We'd be 2 games out at worst...

  2. Sure only 10% of teams that start 0-2 make the playoffs, but don't misinterpret that stat. That is, it doesn't mean that Indy has a 10% chance to make the playoffs.

They are one game out and haven't played any division games yet.

JB was a giant improvement over that other guy and he's had limited time to learn the offense, which is part of the play-calling issue. That last play was ugly, but I was encouraged, overall. Eventually we won't have to adjust the playbook for him much, if at all, from what we want to run with Luck. That trade is looking good, atm.

Speaking of Luck, he will be back soon, probably in 2 or 3 weeks, but surely soon enough to make a run at the division and the playoffs. There is still no team in our division that is good enough to run away with it, even with a possible 3 game lead going into week 5.

  3. May work out good for me in fantasy... Rudolph is the only TE currently on my roster, but im facing Diggs this week...

I have to think that any llimitations on Bradford or if (heaven forbid) Keenum starts, it'll hurt Diggs more than Rudolph.

Normally Bradford is a dump-off machine, but he pushed it downfield a lot last week.

  4. I'm definitely excited. I can't wait to see what the defense looks like outta the gate.

I'm sure there will be ugly moments (Melvin getting bullied by Watkins is a likely scenario), but I what to see what Woods, Hankins, and Anderson do against Gurley and whether or not our OLBs can win some 1on1s. I would love to see our D force a couple turnovers. Maybe Hunt blocks a kick. Wilson, Hairston, and Hooker will all be on my radar in the secondary when they play.

Of course, I hope that the offense has some success too, but I'm going to keep my expectations low on that front. If our defense can set us up with good field position (and hopefully a TD), then we can get a W...

I'm not predicting a win, but we aren't playing the Steelers here.. It will be possible... Hard to give the Rams a big homefield advantage in their first game game in LA since their last game in LA.

Win or lose, I'll be happy with a good showing from our young defenders and some flashes from the rookies, though... All expectations are dampened until #12 comes back healthy.  Go Colts!!

All this hard talk, and we haven't even done anything yet and will most likely lose all our games that Luck is out.

I see your point... It will probably be ugly for us early. In fact, it'll will probably be ugly at times throughout the whole season with so many rookies and new faces in Indy...

That being acknowledged, it is still always fun, for me, to see the Pats lose, especially in Foxboro. It's even more fun to say that they are winless on the season.

I don't think anyone on the forum thinks that Indy is as good as NE. They got beaten by a very good KC team and it was a lot closer than the final score. Thursday games and season openers are often fluky.

I think a lot of us are taking the our time to savor these little victories because the lumps are coming... We are kind of whistling through the graveyard until we get our QB back.

  6. I think that the police union and first responders union are on the wrong side of this issue... They should be working to reform police departments from the inside instead of responding to percieved attacks...

Protesting the protest makes it seem as though they don't believe that there is a major problem with how unequally and unfairly the law is enforced and applied in this country. Statistics clearly reveal that there is. There is no argument.

Police procedure is only part of the problem, but the police unions also protest against the elimination of mandatory minimums and marijuana reform, illustrating that they would rather have job security than fair, rational justice.

I think that this protest is wrong-headed and the police who are offended by "black lives matter" are miguided. The NFL players who sit for the national anthem have my support and have the support of 2 out of the 3 police officers in my immediate family. Those players are patriots (the good kind) in my view. Not all cops are on the side of the union on this.

Police need better training and more pay for the important work that they do. It's insane that the lady who cuts my hair had to spend more time on her education and training than the police that protect my kids.

I understand that the issues are instututional, go higher than just enforcement, and that the police are in an unwinnable situation here. That being said, protesting against the kneelers doesn't help anything or anybody. One group is protesting in favor of human life, the other is bristling against criticism when they should be just as outraged as the rest of us.

JMO, the nature of this thread was political, which is the reason I felt free to speak my piece despite the forum rules. Mods feel free to delete if I crossed a line.

  7. I'm a bit concerned about the RT spot. I thought Clark played well on Saturday, despite being moved and not getting the start. Banner has intriguing upside, but I don't see how he can be realistically considered a possible starter this season. Vujnovich(sp?) has some position flex, but wasn't great last week.

I'm not sure what the coaches are seeing and hearing (with Morris as well). The only thing I can think of with Clark is that they think he needs an attitude adjustment of some kind because he can play. With Morris, I think they made the decision to go with Tolzien early and have been focusing on getting him ready for week 1 rather than competition for the spot.

At back-up QB, it probably doesn't matter much. We aren't winning very many games with either guy, but I think the coaches are making a mistake if they think Banner or JV will be more than depth on the OL this season.

  8. Interesting...

Maybe I'm overly optimistic about anybody wearing the horseshoe, but I've thought to myself (whenever someone brings up trading Dorsett, which is fairly often on the forum) that it doesn't seem to make sense.

I generally thought that his potential value as a reciever, coupled with a cheap rookie contract would keep him here, at least through this season. Of course, that depends on what the offer is... I think a 3rd round pick is probably where I'd put his value, but I'm sure that the rest of the league thinks it's less and he will probably be shipped for a 5th and conditional 7th.

There might be some interesting player for player deals that will be discussed... Tennessee would probably be a good trade partner if they weren't in our division.

  9. I think it might be easier to learn to corner in our system than safety, for a guy like Green, anyway. There is less space to work with.

That being said, I'm not sure Green is a fit there. He struggles in coverage in all scenarios. He is still very young, so it's not like he can't progress with all of his physical tools... I just think they need to work him as a SS and hope it clicks for him.

Either way, I hope the kid figures it out because he has traits that can't be taught.

Man I hope our quick passing game is better and more utilized this year. The way Luck hangs out in the pocket for five seconds trying to make a big play and ends up taking unnecessary hits, it's gonna shorten his career and he'll constantly be dealing with issues like this year. Thing is, we have the personnel to make it work. TY is quick and shifty and can get open in a second. Moncrief is big and strong and can outmuscle little DBs to make catches. Our supposedly bad pass blocking Oline is being forced to protect for more seven step drops than any other team, its ridiculous. If Chud has another poor year of play calling, I really hope he's replaced next year.

I agree with this.. The issue, at least at first, will be that Luck hasn't practiced with the team all off-season so I assume that the timing stuff will be rusty. I don't know how long it will take to iron out, hopefully a quarter or a half, maybe a couple weeks, but we should probably expect some communication issues in both sides of the ball with so many new faces on defense and the offense being used to Scotty T.

The flip-side is that Luck has had to build his strength back up from practically zero. This should have given him a bunch of extra time to work on the short passing game. He has probably only been throwing short for weeks now (and hopefully is beyond that stage of his rehab). I'm sure that the QB coach has used some of this time to work with Andrew on quick progressions and dump offs.

I'm hoping we can win ugly early on until our patience can be rewarded. I think #12 is going to have his best overall season to date, regardless of whether he misses a game or two to start the year.

Wasn't overly impressed with anyone, to be honest.  No one really jumped off the film.  Locke had a nice punt.  Vontae made a play on the ball. That's about it.

I will say that Spence must be a much better game player than practice player.  Not sure how he dropped so far on the depth chart.

Spence has had a couple injuries during practice in his past that have caused him to miss time... He might be protecting himself a lot in practice. He might have also underestimated the competition he would face in camp.

I was surprised when the depth chart came out because Spence has some good tape... the only thing I can think of is that he could be gun shy during the week to save it up for Sundays... Just a theory, though... He might just be a better player than practicer, or maybe it took him a little time to learn the playbook.

  12. Agree with most that the 2006 playoffs were the best wins.

The KC playoff win was a big one from more recent history.

Steelers in '05 was a roller coaster... But ultimately a real heart breaker.

  13. My favorite Colts writer. I will follow whatever else he does next, providing its media related. I would devour a weekly Kevin Bowen podcast on the Colts (hint, hint). We will miss you, Mr. Bowen.

Really hope he doesn't get replaced by Matt Dalaney (sp?). His articles are ok, but I can hardly stand to listen to him stumble over and butcher the English language on his podcasts.

  14. I really like Rogers. He's was a really good find.

That being said, #3 WR doesn't mean much, imo. The battle for snaps will continue all season long and the decisions well be largely situational. Aiken will likely see a lot of RZ and 3rd down snaps. Dorsett well get PT when the Colts need to exploit a slower secondary.

It does look, for now at least, like Rogers is the least situational of the three possible #3s. He is quick, he isn't a munchkin. He should be in line for a greatly expanded role compared to last season.

The one limiter for Rogers, in my view, is that the staff might want to save a roster spot and make him a returner. If he shows that he can do it, somebody like Bray or Ferguson might become expendable, could save Ridgeway or somebody else a spot on defense.

  15. I can't say for sure, but I'd probably be too bummed to be a Colts fan anymore... If another franchise moved here after, I'd be tempted to root for them...

I would definitely stay a Colts fan if I moved out of Indiana, myself...

I definitely wouldn't be able to be a fan of an L.A. Colts team... Part of the charm of the Colts, for me, is at least the pretense of a Midwestern work ethic and emphasis on character, despite how incompatible that image is with reality at times.

  16. Idk about Walter Payton, but I do get a Barry Sanders vibe from Mack... I think that's because of the scheme he ran in during his college career vs. the Lions' offense during Barry's career.

Detroit was so weirdly spread out that Sanders was always reversing course and cutting back. It always seemed like he ran 15 yards for every 3 yards gained. Mack has a lot of that kind of stuff on his college tape, as well. That's as far as the comparison goes, for me, though.

Mack can cut and dance, but he also has good size and will be learning from one of the best North/South, one-cut runners in history in Frank Gore. Frankly, i'll be excited to see what Mack can do in an NFL offense and hope that he gets the dancing coached out of him... Not many RBs (outside of Sanders, an all-time great) can make a living juking defenders behind the line of scrimmage.

  17. I'll be happy if he's starting on the outside by week 4 and looking like he belongs.

If he starts all year and has 5 ints, I'll be ecstatic. He certainly looks like he has the body type and skills to be a very good, physical, island type corner in time.
