I think 18 (have two) is the only one now. I had a Siragusa and Sanders jersey back in the day, but haven't seen them in years. Will be getting a Q jersey next trip back to Indy.

And might look for an Unlock the Swag jersey too.

“UN-LEASH THE SWAG” would be a great mantra for next season.

  2. Anyone else have one of those helmet lamps?  I have mine from when i was a kid.  It was ALWAYS on the bedside stand.  Its gotta be over 40 years old.  That, my unitas auto graphed photo, and the colts seat cushion i used at memorial stadium in the ‘70s are some of my favorite colts items.  Priceless to me. I also have my childhood Colts “varsity jacket” with the white sleeves.  I think i went to church in that darn thing.

If it makes you feel any better, we have a different nickname for you on these boards. Lol  jk. Cool story but we still need to find a substitute for AL in the WIN formula.

All my exes have names for me too.  Fortunately, there ain’t no rearview mirrors on the sides of my head.

Yes we do need to find a suitable replacement for AL.  I hope Ballard pulls a “rabbit” of of his hat....... or anywhere else for  that matter.

Yeah, my dad was from a small coal-mining town there in Schuylkill County.  Took a flying class (light aircraft) while at Bucknell, and it scared the hell out of him.  So he knew he had to conquer that.  Took summer classes to get his degree and was flying fighters by age 23.   Went to Korea when the Pueblo was taken, flew over the Caribbean during the missile crisis, and volunteered for a year in Vietnam.  Always sounded way more fulfilling than my job...

    Way cool.

    Sounds like a “real man.”

    Gotta Respect that.

One of my favorite professors flew F4 Phantoms in Korea.

Btw, i live smack-dab in the middle of coal country.  Well, what used to be coal country.

The coal industry seems to have transitioned to a Heroin market.  Really bad in some of those run-down , job-depleted towns.

Hey, my dad went to Bucknell!  I’m sure he didn’t have a 3.92, but he was way cooler than you - spent 26 years flying fighter jets in the USAF....

My fraternity nickname may say different.....

jokes aside, my undergrad was at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  So, we have the aircraft thing in common too.

The airforce would “weed out” the cream of the crop at my school.  Lots of ex-military were in classes too.  My first roomate was in the Marine Corps.  He flew with vice president Bush (under Reagan) all the time.  He was the guy that stood at the base of the steps to the helicopter. He was  the best grocery coupon shopper i’ve ever seen too.

OMG.  He’s found the “WIN” algorithm. We must create a formula.
         W= K(4) + Q + AL

Darn it! We needed Andrew Luck for this one to work.

When i was doing my graduate studies, we had a business simulation in a marketing class.  The “products” i “created” Based on over a dozen stimuli eventually gained our “company” about 85% market share 3/4 of the way thru.  There were discussions  about “re-starting” the simulation as most were convinced i had a “secret” formula.  I was a bit of a celebrity for several semesters as students in later classes tried to bribe me for the “secret.”
Even the prof called me in to try to get some insight and he asked that i don't assist anyone in his classes as it would not be fair.  I was losing it!

It was all there in the numbers.  I never told anyone, but regression analysis was a key part.

Some of my co-grad students knick-named me “Smoke and Mirrors”. I had the last laugh tho with the 3.92 from Bucknell.

1 - A minus!  It still haunts me to this day.

  7.   We have Ryan KELLY. (Provided he, and Q, will leave Disney World.

We have Chad KELLY, waiting for his shot at destiny.

What if Ballard is targeting rb Joshua KELLEY (ucla),  and (forgive me). wr KJ Hamler (psu).... better known to his mother as KAHLEE Jacoby (ironic) Hamler.

Ballard figures the Ryan one worked well, why not look for more.

Also expect anyone with Nelson or the letter Q In their name to have a distinct advantage.

So they kept Kelly on the team last year, not to play?

...but rather, for him to further develop his character?

Much more complicated than that, even if you exclude the last minute Luck exit.  He also had virtually NO NFL experience.

    But, yeah, kinda.

Not that uncommon with #3 QBs.  He was basically a practice squad guy that was brought up when JB was injured.  No different than the last #3 (walker) really.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with this and have been saying it since before the season was up. Think CB really likes Kelly and I honestly think CB feels he as much talent as the guys that’s obtainable in the draft to him with the unknowns of maturity level. Stay out of trouble during the 2019 season, check. Stay humble and make zero noise. Check. Stay clean and quiet up until the draft and our board goes from QB pick 1 into either OT, DT or WR possibly. Wouldn’t shock me in the least to see rd 3 picking a QB to groom. If CK plays and works out like hopes, we maybe are able to turn that QB into a draft haul 2-4 years down the road idk.

my gut feeling has been, CB kept the kid on this roster when we could easily have picked up another player to fill in for other injuries but we kept him. That tells me a lot.

I agree.  Tho i’m not sure what Ballard is planning on doing in draft.  Maybe he isn't yet either.

I think we all saw what Ballard may be excited about, physically speaking.  I think Ballard is making sure Kelly is getting his head on straight.
I am genuinely excited to see what happens in the draft.  Not sure why, but my gut says he may surprise us this offseason.  Both in the draft and FA.  Strap yourself in!

Painter never looked good in preseason, tulip season or pheasant season. Bad comparison.

Uh, he did.  I’m not bragging Painter up, but he did play well  in at least one game i can remember.  But thats not really the point, is it?

The point is... the kid (Kelly) has a VERY small resume.  And some of it is concerning.

This ain't CNN vs FOX around here.... hopefully we’re all “friends.”

I really doubt having kelly on the roster, keeps the colts from drafting a QB. I wish they would’ve just started him in a game toward the end, just to prove if the hype is worthy. Me personally, I just don’t understand the buzz this guy creates.

The “buzz” is from a few quarters of pre-season play.  Literally, a FEW quarters.... key word being FEW.  I can remember Painter having good pre-season play as well.

He got a shot here because of the Reich/Jim Kelly connection.  The kid has skills, and good college numbers.  However, 31 other teams could have grabbed him from our practice squad.  There are obviously still red flags.  If so, you CAN’T risk putting him in control of the team.

I think he’s being handled correctly.  Low-risk, with potential as a good quality back-up or maybe even better.

should have moved on from AV a year ago they waited too long and there were not many options in the middle of the season

    Hey bud!!!!

Me again.  How’ve you been?  Hope we can “move on.”

i agree, about Vinny.  It looks like something was going on with his leg.  In my view, Vinny may have hid it a little, trying to get to some records.  My gut thinks Vinny would have retired, this offseason.  Now, he may wanna kick for 1 more year.

Looking back, we probably should have added a 2nd kicker early when we brought some in.  Ballard churned the roster all year.  Two kickers short-term until Vinny healed his body or “head” may have worked.

Of course, our vision is MUCH better now, looking back.

Thank you for this straight forward, enlightened post.

Ballard wasn't giving GM Speak when he pointed out that in his learned opinion we were missing something in the lockerroom. We were missing some leadership and attitude. OK.  He and his leadership team likely have been talking and agreeing about seeing this as the season went on. And how ridiculous that a player instantly loses those abilities when he isn't on the field.

JERK wasn't the right word, but the point was correct according to our GM.

A Reggie White could come in as a FA and make an immediate impact on the culture. lol.

I think building what is needed will happen if CB keeps drafting his high character types.

They dont even have to be loud, or “jerkish.” Sometimes a vet who doesnt say much, but just “shows” the way by example.  Players , especially younger, will “behave” as they Respect and want to impress.  Houston is probably similar to this. Some might say Dungy was this way as a coach.

I felt we needed a guy in locker room to “ yell and break stuff” when we were on losing streak. Someone to “shake” everyone and wake them up.  We dont always need high-IQ guys calmly sitting around discussing the losing streak over tea and crumpets.

Sometimes you just need to smash something to make a point.

Something he mentioned in year end press conference about not having enough friction and holding each other accountable stuck with me. Did he create such a good culture within the locker room where these guys are all such good friends they won’t get in each other’s face and hold each other accountability. Peyton Manning could be a jerk sometimes but those players respected him and he demanded hard work. Do we need a couple so called jerks to keep these players accountable for their play. Ultimately Brissett would and can be this guy and has shown it. But with how bad he played how can he be that guy.

This has been mentioned by Ballard as you said and was discussed here even before that.

I also remember Ballard basically saying that you build your culture from within first, then you can add “questionable”  Characters and the weight if the culture will put them in line.  Some would say this happens in NE.

However, i still think you need at least one “enforcer” on each side of the ball. A guy who is respected for his commitment, work ethic, and play on the Field.  Being physically intimidating and a little “nuts” when necessary doesn't hurt either.  Our team is so young so i think this is still developing.

Q needs to fully embrace the role.  He has all the necessary attributes and the On-field personality to boot.  On defense, a combo of Houston/Leonard/Sheard could be the temporary ticket, with possibly Leonard growing more into the role.

But i’d like to see a little more if Q’s “attitude” More integrated into our current culture.

      Next year’s mantra should be:
”No More Mr Nice Guy.... Time To Get Nasty!”

This guy is young tough and wets pressure n stops run !!! Take him !!! Also make Nagu De from Jacksonville a #1priority !!!!!! Sign jets wr Robby Anderson !!!!!! Sign Hunter Harvey ! We are on our way! Draft another DT WR TE and a Guard to replace our current one. We will have best Offensive line in the NFL!!!!!

Not sure we want someone who “wets” under pressure.  I don't think they make depends that large.

You're assuming there will be a clearly better than mid level QB available after 12 picks ...

I think this is really the question.

If Ballard doesnt like the value at QB at #13, he may go to plan B.  Plan B may be a 2nd tier draft QB (with high 2nd or late 2nd pick) that Ballard sees traits that fit in what he’s trying to accomplish.  I think there might be a run late in the 1st for Love, Fromm, Gordon types.  Not all, but i see teams potentially targeting QBs in 2nd or 3rd.  Possibly two or three late in the 1st.  There could be 6 or more QBs gone by end of 2nd if teams get anxious.

Ballard always has plan C and D in his back pocket.  Plan C is free agency and a boatload of cash to spend.
Plan D i wont mention cuz it will blow up the forum.

If ballard takes a QB at 13 he is sold on him. Doesn’t matter what fans think.

At #13 , you better be sold on whoever you take, at any position.
Even when Peyton and Leaf came in, they werent “rated” all that far apart.  20 years, and A hall of fame career later, GMs are still having the same troubles finding “the guy.”
