  1. "You know what you're going to get with Luck," said another scout. "It's going to be good."

    ^^Also from the article.

The title of the thread is the only "negative" comment about Luck. The rest are glowing. And his numbers from the combine...man, I get excited each time I see 'em!

"Luck measured 6 feet 4 inches, weighed 235 and ran 40 yards in 4.64 seconds. His vertical jump of 36 inches tied the

average for wide receivers, his broad jump of 10-4 was 5 inches longer and his times in the shuttle runs that gauge change

of direction, quickness and burst were at or near the wide-receiver average."

Luck is our man. He's going to do well. I have no doubts.

  2. If these troublemakers see that they WONT'T get the millions of dollars to start with because they are problems, they may not become problems in the first place and THAT is bettering yourself. The attitude of “if you pay me this THEN I won’t cause problems” is a problem in itself.

    I agree with this 100%.

And I don't think FanFromtheWasteland is assuming someone can't change, but he is saying bad behavior shouldn't be rewarded which I agree with.

If someone is handed a "reward" for doing bad (the million dollar contracts in this case is the reward), why would they change?

  3. Everyone is entitled to do whatever in their recreational time I guess, but I personally would rather we stay away from drafting guys that have a habit of doing these things for a couple of reasons: I like a classy, top notch team (on and off the field), and these recreational activities could (and mostly likely would) cause that player playing time = hurting us.

Plenty of good fish in the sea, let's go after someone else.

  4. I brought it up as a talking point that it would simply be a better decision to grab a vet CB than draft one at #34. That's all I was saying. lol I'm excited for the draft as well. It's going to be funny when it comes and our new players are not even close to the ones that are in our mock drafts on this board!

haha! I hear ya. I read through the post, and I understand what you were saying and where you were coming from.

Isn't that the truth about the draft. We always think we have it all figured out and then when the time comes and things happen it usually isn't what we thought at all. Keep the posts coming! :)

  5. I don't think any CB could be counted on to turn a team like the Colts into a Superbowl contender. We are weak at CB, he's still productive, would provide a veteran leadership, just saying it wouldn't be the worst thing the Colts have ever done.

I just wanted to say, I agree on a few things in this statement.

One, no CB (or any individual player other than Peyton Manning) can soley make a team a Superbowl contender. It takes a team full of play makers to make a SB team.

Two, I think we are indeed weak at the CB position

Three Samuel will be productive and effective where ever he lands and he will indeed provide what ever team he lands at with veteran leadership.

And finally four, I agree if it were possible to aquire Samuel it would indeed not be the worst thing the Colts have ever done (need I remind us all of Collins or Painter?????).

Samuel is one of those players you love to watch because he is so awesome at his job. Yes, he's 31 years old but he does have a lot more in the tank (barring injury) left to give. I would really like to be able to pick him up, but it isn't likely. $7 mill still isn't cheap. He'd have to be willing to take less, and a re-structured/extended Freeney contract would be needed. (I'm not even getting in the Freeney discussion b/c in my opinion that case is yet to be closed. We'll see some action on that front in late May I believe.)

Bottom line for me, I like what I've seen Grigson do in the 3 months he's been here. I like how he's handled the challenge given to him. I like the direction him and Pagano seem to be taking us. I think he has fore-sight. He sees what he wants the Colts to be for many years to come--I believe he is picturing a winning power house that dominates the NFL-- and he is going after it. Likewise, Pagano is just as tenacious and driven to succeed and win. Next year at this time it will again be an exciting offseason as we will finish filling holes and completing our monster.

Anyone else excited the draft is less than a week away? LET'S HUNT!

  6. No problem. I realize that most people will disagree with me. You should have seen the stink that I got into last year when I discussed a certain on field "hit". :D

haha! I can only imagine! I'm of the firm belief that everyone has an opinion and none of them are wrong. I do love discussing opinions though...makes me think things through throuroghly. Keep them coming my friend!

  7. Kickoffs roll as part of the overall strategy ("is the team going to have to drive 80 yards, or can they reduce it) is interesting, but the actual play itself is considerably less fun to watch than any single play from scrimmage. You're fondest wish is that a track star (who probably can't even handle a normal position) gets lucky and outruns a bunch of guys up the field. That's a gimmick tacked onto the sport, and I hate it when games are decided because of it. It's not unlike the shootout at the end of tie hockey games. A lot of rapid scoring that has virtually nothing to do with the rest of the sport. I could easily do without it.

Well friend, on this one we will have to agree to disagree. I like kickoffs, and you think they are a gimmick. I think they are a play can and does have an effect of the outcome of the game, and I don't think they are trivial in the least.

To point out what I have highlighted above, I think it is a bit ridiculous to refer to Devin Hester (and players like him) as a track star who can't handle a "normal" position. (Really?) I also don't think players like Hester get "lucky" and outrun other guys. There have been many times I have seen Devin find small gaps on returns to escape being tackled (ones that look similar to RBs finding gaps on "normal" plays)--to me this takes smarts and skill.

Also, I'd like to point out that if the "bunch of other guys up the field" would do their jobs right, then players like Devin wouldn't get as many TDs.

And don't we like it on "normal" plays when a WR out runs his oponent to catch the ball and score? (And let's not even mention the possibilities of said WR getting tackled in a way that he gets seriously injured. Need we remember Collie?) Both have to catch (field) the ball and get it closer (or to) the goal--a TD.

Look, getting hit hard enough to be hurt is part of the game of football no matter what level, whether it be high school, college, or NFL. Getting hurt is always a possibility. It's a risk these guys take in their chosen profession. They're big boys, if they can't handle it then they need to find a different job. I don't think these guys are brain washed into playing football. There is a reason they began to play--they like the game, they like the competition, they like it period.

One thing I do agree on is that a lot of times guys don't know when to call it quits. They forget there is life after football. But then, there are a lot of workaholics out there in many other professions who work too much and miss out on life. Everyone makes their own decisions, and these guys are no different. They just do their jobs on a more public platform.

One last thing. I am not against trying to create good, sound rules that prevent barbaric, unnecessary behavior (such as hits that are intentional to hurt). Hitting with the intention to hurt needs to be stopped. Period. That being said, there is such a thing as too many rules. If they keep going there will be so many rules that football will no longer be the sport we all love to watch. It will, in essence, be like flag football. The players will be too scared to even raise their hands to block. I do not wish to see that.

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. This is the case here (IMO). I'd like to see kickoffs return to how they were before the rule change.

  8. We'll see what happens. I like Stokley. I always have. He was great when he was Indy and I was sad to see him go.

Yes he is a familiar face for Peyton.

Yes he's been helping Peyton in his workouts (Peyton throwing to him etc).

Yes (IMO) as long as he is not injured, he is a good asset.

Those things said, Peyton will work with all his "targets" and get them "trained" to how he wants them to be. It's what he does. We've seen him do it his entire career...Harrison, Wayne, Clark, Collie, White, Gonzolez, Tamme... ... ...need I keep going. Granted some of those "targets" where more talented than others, but Peyton worked with them.

He will continue to hone his craft and prove that he can "train" a new generation of recievers and TEs to be the best they can be.

Stokley's role in this is yet to be determined. I wish him the best and hope he does make the team and does play this fall on the field w/ Peyton...something I'd like to see for sure...

  9. As one of my friends put it: If it ain't broke don't "fix" it. The kickoffs weren't broke, so why the heck did they go messing with them in the first place? Put it back to how it was and LEAVE IT ALONE!

  10. For the 10,000th time, I am a lifelong Giants fan. I started with the Giants since Simms and have suffered through Dave Brown, and Kent Graham as the QBs. I stuck with them with Kerry Collins and kurt Warner. I just like Peyton and Eli. The Giants are still my team and will be after Eli leaves. I just like to follow Peyton and Eli's career at the same time. Not sure why I have to keep apologizing for that.

IMO, you don't have to apologize. Peyton and Eli are both great QB's, and besides since this is a free country, you are allowed to like and do as you wish (within the law of course ;) ) Don't worry or feel like you have to apologize.

  11. JCPatriot, I take our players at their word. If you'll read the articles on Colts.com and the quotes from the players you'll hear many of them state they are excited to get to work and get going. You can also hear them say it by watching the videos on Colts.com.

  12. When they moved it to the 35 yard line, they made it just a formality. It went from being an actual play in the game to just something they have to do now (of course this is MO). I think it stemmed from guys like D. Hester returning them for TD's...man I miss those days...anyways, I'd like to see it moved back before they made the dumb rule change.

And kickoffs should always be part of the game...it wouldn't be football without them.

  13. I for one am not crying that White was cut. I like the guy and all, but we need to be looking for the "new" Reggie or Marvin. Let's face it, White wasn't it, so IMO time to move on.

I like what Grigson and Pagano are doing so far, and can't wait to see the rest of the picture as far as the draft goes.

I agree that it is likely we won't make it to the playoffs this year, but we can't make any assumptions about next season until we see who we draft this year and see what the scheme/plan is from Pagano.

One things we know, the players we have are fired up and ready to get to work.

    LET'S BUILD THE MONSTER!

  14. Well, I think the fact that the Broncos will always "belong" to Elway makes it more likely that he'll return to Indy after retirement if he wants to stay in football. Either that or back to Tenessee at the college level. I think there's a sense that the Broncos are borrowing him. Could change with superbowl wins, but time will tell.

I agree with both you and Jules. Peyton is Indy as John is Denver. Peyton will return to Indy should he want to stay in football after retirement (of course that is my speculation). I quite like the idea of him as our GM or VP... ...what about Peyton as VP and Jeff Saturday as our GM... ... ...I like it, I like it a lot...the duo back together again...just as it should be :D

  15. Hmmmm...as far as the "Thank You Peyton" banner on LOS...do I think it will come down before the season or stay there forever...I'm honeslty riding the fence on that one. I get NorCalColt's point of view. And I also get Fx Stryker and Gramz's point of view of it staying there b/c Peyton is (and will forever be) a Colt (no matter the jersey he is wearing now).

I will pose this question: When Broadway Joe left the Jets to play for another team, did they keep huge momentos and reminders of him around? What about the 49ers and Joe Montana? Or the Phins and Dan Marino? And finally, what about Denver and John Elway? ... ...I honestly don't know but personally have never seen them.

I can see the reasoning behind it if the organization decides to take the banner down and will not be upset as I will understand that the NFL is a business and the fans need to make sure their focus is on the current Colts team.

Likewise if they keep it up to honor and respect Peyton, I will have no problem with it and would think that Andrew Luck is a mature enough person to take it for what it is: gratitude to our legend, our guy, the guy whom I hope to see in our FO in the future after his playing days...

  16. If you really want to see something, go to the draft/free agent section and scroll back a bit to see a thread that is now locked. It started the day the Colts announced they would release Manning by someone hoping the Broncos would get him. By the time they got him less than 2 weeks later, the thread had over 21,000 replies and something like 1425 pages.

How cool is that??? Reading their comments do make me smile...talking about giving him a key to the city and everything. I hope they stay loyal to him even if things are rough starting out for him (I don't expect rocky for him, but there is a slight chance it might be). I do have to admit, part of me wants to go "He's ours! He's a Colt! He's just making a short stop with you until he retires to come back to Indy!" But alas, I will not...part of me still doesn't want to share him...lol, I know I know...I still think it's the best move all the way around for both teams.

  17. I laughed that a Manning vs. Brady thread popped up over there the day Peyton signed. Manning is winning :)

    Just don't:

    1) insult Tebow - older members can do that, but not newbies

    2) insult John Elway - no one gets away with that.

Why would anyone want to insult John? No one would get away with that with me. I grew up watching (and loving) #7. He is a big part of what made me love football.

Manning vs Brady is a classic rivalry that will never end until one of them retires (and then it won't die, it will still be talked about and forever lived in the "Greatest Players of All Time" shows on the NFL and in discussions...lets just hope the commentators and analysts start getting it right--Brady will never compare to Peyton. E V E R. Peyton can succeed no matter who is around him. Brady cannot. Peyton doesn't have to have a great football mind as coach to suceed. Brady does. Peyton is a man. Brady is a whiner who comes across to me as a baby. Peyton is the best. Brady is not... ...dang I could do these all day...

  18. I might be wrong but I do think Peyton has a Super Bowl ring. ;)

Sometimes I think people act like he is Dan Marino and has never experienced it all. He has been to two Super Bowls and the Colts won one with him. That is still quite an accomplishment even if he never wins another. Not every player gets 3+ rings. It takes a great team and a lot of luck at times too. Our kicker has 4 rings and was fortunate enough to be on the Pats dynasty teams and with the Colts in 2006.

Even if Peyton retired this offseason he has done everything I could ask for in an individual player.

I completely agree my friend, and quite honestly if you asked me before his SB win I would have told you that he should go down as the best QB to ever play the game of football. But the harsh reality is he will not get the credit he deserves unless he gets a few more SB wins under his belt. I think Denver is just the place to get it done for him in the next five years too. I am forever grateful and will alwaysremember what he did for us and that he took us to 2 SBs.

  19. Alright, I was spaced out and came up with this idea. Say I was the Vikes GM. I would make a deal with the Browns. They would announce their plans to draft Tannehill at #4. This would make the Phins trade up for a large sum to #3. The Vikings win. Then, the Browns get first pick of every player that isn't a QB. The Browns win. A little crazy, I know. What are your thoughts?

haha! I like the conspiracy type theory here, I like it a lot!

  20. signed, sealed, and delivered in 16 days, PATIENCE YOUNG GRASSHOPPER

BAHAHA!!! Perfect! You are right my friend, this deal is sealed. Irsay says it w/o saying it (like he usually does) "easy 2c why the #1 pick n this Stanford phenom has been synonymous with each other 4over 2 yrs" ...the 2 yr period he refers to includes this year. Now any doubters left can sleep well tonight :D
