  1. It's pretty amazing that only 25% of the top 10 picks in the draft live up to their hype and only 40% of the number 1 overall picks live up to theirs. So the draft really is tough to predict. It does show that it takes more than just the draft to build a team. As big a crap shoot that free agency is, the draft is more so. It takes the draft, free agency, and even a undrafted free agents to build a team. I hope Grigson uses all three methods.

  2. I think we'll be ok in the long run, but 4-12 in '12, 7-9 the next season. Luck will be good in the long run, but like most new QBs I'll say he won't have a good rookie season, but a season that's not bad for a rookie, I'll say he'll have 20 TDs and 17 interceptions. He'll learn from it and be solid the next season and by his 3rd season he will be what we want him to be or at least 90% there. It will take a couple of years to repair the defense. I hate it, but i don't see a winning season until 2014.

  3. Can't really complain about the decisions at this point. Hard decisions, but none the less they had to be made in most cases. Would like to see the O line get rebuilt quickly (that will cover a lot of weaknesses in other areas on offense). Would like to see the WR position get a vertical threat (that would also cover deficiencies at TE). The defense will need a lot of work obviously, but so far, it's ok. But the jury is still out. Check back Sept. 1.

  4. Overrated actually must take into account ''expections vs. real production''. So therefore in the last 20yrs...Trev Alberts, sorry but because of injuries, Steve Emtman, Coryatt (1st rounder with Emtman), Marshall Faulk (he must not have been very good if Polian gave him up for the draft pick that became Mike Peterson)--just kidding, Marshall was awesome of course, Ryan Diem (only overrated by Polian-giving him $5-6M per year several years ago).

  5. I would not do this, but it's interesting. We get a competent QB through free agency (no great QBs would be available but competent QBs may be-just very average). We trade the #1 pick for Cleveland's #4 and their #22 and their very high 2nd round pick. If Peyton proves to be healthy, we trade Peyton for a team's top ten pick this year and their top pick in next year's draft. We then take Blackmon, Khalil, the best LB coming out of college with the first Peyton pick and 2 DL this year in the early 2nd round. Next year, with our first rounder we get a shot possibly at the #2 QB in next year's draft with the 2nd Peyton pick and another good player in the first round with our normal 1st round pick.

Wouldn't do this, but it's interesting.

  6. If you're looking at pure results, which is what the NFL is all about, that was a pretty bad group of first rounders for several years. All kinds of reasons why they haven't performed consistently (or not even performing much at all with 3 of those 6 first rounders), but that was a bad stretch of picks. Of course a big reason why we are seeing this year's results.

  7. He's far from being ready even just considering his arm readiness alone. What the Colts need to know about his neck and throwing abillities they can learn in practice. Yes, a game is different than practice, but there really is no need to play him at this point in a meaningless game at the end of a poor season. Pariticulary knowing they can be accused of making an obviously high risk decision.

  8. Joe's yds per carry lifetime 4.1, yds per reception are 7.7. Brown's yds per carry lifetime 4.0 and yds per reception are 10.5. Donald's not too bad of a replacement vs. what we've gotten since Joe's first year.

  9. I've been a fan since '67. Yep, a long time and have seen a lot of football. I have seen many good years and many bad years. I honestly thought, even during the good years, that Bill P. should have had a decent backup behind Peyton (at least dependable). Yes, you can maneauver the cap in areas with proper planning and still pay the Peyton Manning type contracts. I also thought that we were legitimately good, but needed help in areas we weren't addressing. But I never saw this season coming. Without Peyton, I would have thought we would be 7-9 or 6-10 in a worst case scenario. This does illustrate how we have acquired very few impactful players in the past 6 years. (Not just dependable but really good impactful players). I don't think we have one on the roster that was acquired in the last 6 years. That's astounding. I think we could have actually lucked into 1 or 2 over that time period. But never the less, I think you must divide the Polian era into 2 parts. The first part of the Polian era was very good. The last half was mainly due to Peyton Manning and a few difference makers.

  10. Polian built and maintained an AFC dynasty with the Bills (not an NFL dynasty since no Super Bowls, but they cerntainly dominated the AFC for many years). The Panthers had one winning season in their first 8 seasons. (They did have one shocking 12-4 record in '96). Polian was there for the first 3 seasons, but certainly would be responsible for at least one more season's record. His 1st round picks were disasters for the Panthers (yes Kerry Collins had 1 decent season but left in shame, Tim Biakabatuka and Rae Carruth were the others). And only two, yes only two draft picks contributed at all of those drafts, Muhammed, an average WR and Minter, an average safety). We all know how little true impact the last 6 drafts have had, of certainly no impactful free agents have been added. He hireed JIm Caldwell (enough said on that). I'm trying to be objective, but there is very little in the past 6 years to help this franchise. Yes, we have had many great seasons however and Polian certainly shares in that credit. But the last 6 years, his true contributions have been poor at best.

  11. I doubt many teams fear the 19th ranked defense in the League that gives up an average of 25 pts per game. Yes, the average per carry is 3.3 but still is ranked 22nd in total yards rushing. Andy, yes, our anemic offense that ranks 29th is partly to blame for the defense being on the field quite a bit. But sorry, I can't see fear in anyone's eyes quite yet. (Unless you're on Dwight Freeney's side of the field).

  12. i've always been under the impression that shifting a te to one side is to help the o-lineman out in blocking a de by DOUBLE TEAMING HIM not letting a te, who is a weaker blocker in the first place just str8 go 1 on 1 with the 2nd best de in the league.........

god this coaching staff is gonna get exploited so much these next couple weeks

and this is why we complain in the preseason when everything looks like same old same old....run d is horrible pass protection horrible special teams horrible.

  13. Honestly, Moore established a new level of offensive consistency, so he'll be missed. But with Mudd, let's face it, the run blocking has been an obvious weakness and while the sack totals have been low, it's because Peyton releases the ball so early and so quickly preventing sacks. I've said for a long time, as good as Peyton has been, can you imagine if he had another second or two in the pocket like many QBs in the league have had.
