  1. The guy is a low 1st-early 2nd round talent that got injured. It's really that simple. Dude was the leader of the best OL. I like him anywhere inside. I wouldn't pick him 24 at this point. Someone will get lucky & get him early-mid 3rd highly doubt we are able to draft him.

Exactly. Jones was 1st or top half of 2nd round before the injury. He was the Jeff Saturday of maybe the best O-line in College Football history...especially considering whom this group opened holes for and made look good over the past 3-4 years. Someone will get super value if he, in fact, falls to the 3rd round.

  2. Dont cloud others with facts. It confuses them. The Colts haven't had decent run blocking in years. If anyone would care to look at the numbers we haven't had even an average O-line suited for running since the Edge was here. It was all geared to pass block for Manning. Thats why Addai was very good as a blocker and receiver, not a running back. I, for one will be glad to see a new offense geared to have a power running game. It would help our defense a lot to keep them off the field a little longer. While Manning's shootout games were exciting to watch the Colts always paid the price in the playoffs from not having a balanced offense.

On the money. Once we can create a ''real'' run threat, Luck's play-action will payoff in spades. Bottomline, if we continue to improve the O-line, we will find it has the most affect on so many aspects of the game. Yes, even defensively, when considering a more rested defense as well as being able to milk the clock at the end of the game. Too many times in the past, in big games, we only needed one or two first downs to ice a win but couldn't get it.

  3. Donald Brown's injuries are the main issue, however at his relatively low salary, backup RB would suit him well. His results are actuallly not bad, espcially considering he has run behind a mediocre OL most of his career. His lifetime yards per carry are 4.1. That compares to Edgerrin's 4.2, Rhodes 4.0, Addai 4.1 and Ballard 3.9. He ofcourse is no Edgerrin James, but his yards per carry are not bad at all and he has 1 fumble, ever. His durability is the issue, but when on the field his actual production is not bad at all.

  4. I kinda like the Baltimore Colts better. By the way, on NFL Network, Baltimore's Memorial Stadium was voted the third best home field advantage in NFL history ! I though new M & T Bank stadium might be in there also.

Good for Memorial Stadium. What an historic place. Remembering the dirt/dust on half the field due to the Orioles playing on the same field. Great to have the Colts that I've liked for so long play at places like Memorial and the RCA Dome. Both known for tremendous homefield advantage.
  5. '68 was an awesome year until the Super Bowl; but the team was thought of as maybe the best ever and definitely the best ever defense at that point--finished 13-1 regular season

'70 avenging --to some degree, the SB III loss (only to some degree)

'75 and '76-Bert Jones led upstart Colts. If you didn't ever see him play, think of Brett Favre's arm, Elway's legs and Montana smarts.

'87 with Dickerson and the surprise of the NFL that year

'95 speaking of surprises-wow, and Jim Harbaugh will always have a place in the hearts of Colts fans

'99 another surprise to be that good so fast and the beginning of things to come

'05 truly our best all around team during Peyton era IMO

'06 for avenging so many disappointing playoff seasons

    '12 for all the surprises

Sorry I couldn't choose one out of these

  6. Bingo. Manning's last year with us it was reported that he average 2.6 per drop back pass time, while Brady averaged having 4.6 per drop back that year. Peyton made a mediocre line look great in pass blocking stats.

I have always disagreed with those that thought we had a good O-line for yrs.. Glenn was a beast and Saturday was very good, but mostly because he's just so darn smart. Lilja, Diem, and Johnson were huge liabilities in run blocking and Scott was average IMO. Our O-line looked better than it really was because Saturday and Manning worked so well together and Manning was the master at knowing what the defense was going to do.

  7. We probably won't get him, but he did play G at Wake Forest and they led the ACC in rushing 2 of his 3 years as a starter--no small feat for little Wake Forest with Florida State, Miami and Va Tech in the conference. Kind of wish we could go back in time about 10 days and sign him for $4.5MM vs. Cherilus at $6.9MM. (He actually gave up 30% less sacks as well as being a superior run blocker) Saving $2.4MM and having a better RT, howbeit 31 years old with about 2-3 good years left.

  8. Just an interesting thought, howbeit hindsight: We could have had Clabo (yes older than Cherilus) and Jake Long both for $13MM/yr vs. Cherilus and Walden's nearly $11MM per year and allowed us to cut Satele or McGlynn if we really aren't happy with him and save the difference. Big assumption here, but move Clabo to G, where he played some in college. The O-line would have been Jake Long at LT, Thomas at LG, Shipley C, Clabo at RG, Castonzo RT. Just thinking out loud.

  9. He's 31, but gave up 30% fewer sacks than Cherilus the last 2 years and is a very good run blocker and was cut making $4.5MM/year---way less than the $6.9MM we are paying Cherilus. Very interesting.

  10. Good research. Hope this holds true and if it does, we will have a quality starter at #24. With Joekel, Fisher, Johnson, Warmack, Cooper, Fluker and even Barret Jones in the mix, hopefully just one will fall to 24.

  11. I totally agree that G is an area of need, not only for protecting #12 but also to open up runnin lanes. Warmack nor Cooper will be there (well possibly Cooper), but we don't need a mediocre G. One of these 2 or similar would be a huge help/necessity.

  12. I agree as well. I think G is the biggest glaring need. And OLB also. I actually think we are fine at CB for the time being with the re-signing of Butler and the FA signing of Toler and would possibly like a WR. If we can get a G and an athletic OLB and a WR that can watch Reggie and TY for a year or two, I would be happy.

  13. I am a very tough grader, that being said, Griggson addressed vital areas of need. Being able to determine the main areas of need and addressing them is a feat in itself. However, I did feel we gave up too much to get Cherilus (gave up 14 sacks the last 2 years which is very average for RT) $6.9MM per year. And Walden as well. But looking at Walden's below average numbers, there was one season that stuck out, 2011, when he had 40 tackles and 19 assists with 3 sacks. I'm sure that's what the Colts management is banking on him having every year when they signed him for $4MM/yr. Landry is an upgrade and $6MM/yr isn't too bad. La Francios is a need and he didn't break the bank either. I like the late signing of Heyward-Bey with relatively small money. I give it a C+/B-. But I'm a tough grader.

  14. I felt that we addressed positions that needed it, so I would give an A on identifying needs (which some GMs don't do well). However, to be honest, I feel we overpaid for a decent RT ($6.9MM/year) and could have had Long, a very good LT at $8.5MM). Yes he still gave up fewer sacks than Cherilus the last 2 years despite being injured, plus he plays LT and we could have moved Castonzo to RT (gave up a 18.5 the last 2 years which is very high).

Walden was an overpay, but is he plays as well as his best season in 2011 (69 tackles and 3 sacks) he will be nearly worth $4MM/yr.

Landry is solid and LF will be solid as will Toler.

Not bad, but Cherilus and Walden can make Griggs and Pags look like geniuses if they do play well.

  15. With Peyton, I think the Broncos will be 11-5, possibly 12-4. We will not have the pieces in place yet to be more than 4-12 or 5-11 IMHO. We could be 9-7 the following year, then get back to double digit wins in 2014. I want more and it will be hard for the next year or two, but I just don't see it.
