  1. I hate it that the Colts always built for a great offense and expected that great offense to carry the mediocre defense. People wonder why Peyton has been such a great regular season qb but only an average playoff qb. Well, it was not his fault. When you get to the playoffs, just having a great offense will not see you through. It is a whole other level. You need a great defense, too. I agree the Colts should have had 3 or 4 rings in the Manning era. They would have if the defense had been better.

  2. I think Peyton chose Denver because Elway told him that they will build the offense his way and allow him a great deal of autonomy in running it. He would not have had that assurance at any other team. Well, maybe the Titans, but of the two teams, Denver is better.

He has also been told, perhaps, that they will do their best to sign some players he wants with him, like Saturday and Clark.

  3. The player who had 18 for the Broncos is still alive at age 84 and has offered to let Manning wear it if he wants. Guess he only played 3 years for them but they retired it b/c he was their first QB.

Their first QB probably made about $100 a game. :neener:

  4. Don't watch mainstream news unless you want to be brainwashed.

PM has more money than GOD.... I guarantee you $ cheez is not even and issue.

I have a theory that he makes more money making commercials than he does playing football anyway.

  5. The media people are nuts. For example, listen to ESPN radio and they are always complaining about "the media." However, ESPN is the media, and when they complain they complain about themselves.

The "media" has been following Peyton around for the past week in helicopters, trying to intercept him and get the latest word before the competition. Then they complain that he is creating a media circus. I laughed when I heard that the 49ers had talked to Manning and had him work out, and the media did not know a thing about it.

That must really have ticked them off! :neener:

  6. Lets put it this way, in 1998, Manning was the favorite like Luck, but Leaf made a late comeback in the press, like RG3 and Leaf also won the Heisman.... We do the right thing by taking the more true quarterback, dont get caught up in the RG3 hype, and the organization will not for sure

Leaf did not win the Heisman. Charles Woodson won the Heisman.

  7. I have visited a major Titans message board, and the strange thing to me is the fans are divided right down the middle on Peyton, whereas the fans on the Cardinals and Broncos boards are overwhelmingly wanting Peyton. I do not get it.

However, you do have to consider this. Nashville is not Knoxville. Nashville has Vanderbilt, and Vanderbilt fans despise UT, which is in Knoxville. I think it is the Vanderbilt fans that do not want Peyton. Jay Cutler is their favorite son.

  8. This is pro football for you. Bobby Hebert (Cajun Cannon) left the Saints and went to rival Atlanta Falcons just because they offered him a million or two more than the Saints did. This was in the early nineties. Today Hebert is the founder of the Who Dat nation and the Saints' biggest supporter. He has a radio program on WWL in New Orleans, a show focused mostly on the Saints.

  9. Yes, but they will probably wait until he retires. I believe right before he retires, he will re-sign with the Colts so he can retire a Colt, which is what players are doing today -- at least those who identified with a particular team most of their careers.

  10. Some of us may want to wait until he signs with a new team and send the letters in care of that new team, sending a copy to Jim Irsay.

He will get the letters quicker, and still the Colts will know what Peyton has meant to the Colts fans and what a monumental devastation his being cut is.

Anyway, how do we know the Colts will forward the letters to Peyton right away? They may just sit on them for awhile. While his new team will give them to him immediately.

We can always find the address of his team on the Internet, and he will be there very soon you can bet, because of minicamps, etc. He has said he wants to sign with a new team within the next week.

Also, if anyone does not feel his or her grammar is up to par, I am happy to volunteer to edit your letter for you. Just private message me what you want to say.

  11. i wasn't sure of the etiquette there. i'm old enough to address an envelope, but not old enough to know the finer details :)

Fine. As I edited my post, I have been a secretary all my life who had to know such things. Anyway, thanks for the address. I will use it.

  12. Indianapolis Colts

    c/o Peyton Manning

I would put it Peyton Manning, c/o Indianapolis Colts since c/o means "care of" and you are sending it to Peyton. Sorry but I have been a secretary all my life. :)

  13. The thing I'm going to miss most is when people spell Peyton as Payton. At least Andrew Luck's name is easy to spell, and if we draft Robert Griffin we'll yell at people for spelling it "Robert Griffen" for the next 12 years lol.

If Andrew does not win his first year, some will be spelling his last name with an "F" which will not be nice.

  14. mouthofthesouth, thank you, very nice. The assumption that I have an issue with is the "several years away" statement. I have always felt like every year we had the chance to win the SB. Last year was the 1st time I didn't, when we will regain that feeling again? Or are we stuck never feeling that again? I agree with the "mutual" stuff and also Peyton being called "selfish", but WHY couldn't of he done this comeback in Indy? WHY someplace else? For the 1st time we were getting him a defense.

I do not think Peyton is selfish for seeing the handwriting on the wall. I think the biggest obstacle he saw was having to contend for his job. I have seen young qbs be drafted and as soon as the starting qb has a bad game, people start yelling, "Put the kid in! See what he can do!" There is not a qb who has ever started in the NFL who is not "jealous" of his starting position. He wants to know he is fully in charge. I think all the obstacles were just too much to overcome, and both Irsay and Peyton realized that. Not saying I like it. If the Colts had won one more game, and thus not get the first pick, Peyton would still be a Colt.

  15. Luck will play for whichever team drafts him. He will not do an Eli, from what I know of his personality.

He is goofy, but he is a straight arrow, and too humble to put himself above his team.

He always tries to do the right thing.

Eli is a straight arrow. He did what he thought best for himself and he was able to pull it off. You will never convince me Archie and Olivia did not raise all their kids as straight arrows.

  16. In 2005 I lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Some of you great Indy fans got together and asked Mr.Irsay to do something nice for me. The Colts flew my daughter and me to Indy, wined and dined us, and I threw out the ball at the Nov. 2005 MNF game against the Steelers, which the Colts won. That was the one where Peyton threw the 80 yard bomb to Harrison on the first play. I had requested to meet Peyton and he agreed. He signed my 18 jersey, and my daughter got pictures of me with him. He chatted with us and was so gracious. I could not think of much to say, I greeted him with, "I remember when you were born. You weighed in at 12 plus pounds (big news in New Orleans when Archie's wife had a child.) Peyton laughed and replied, "That's right!"

That's my picture with the great one in my avatar.

I still tell everybody I meet about my Indy experience. I love you, the Colts and the people of Indy. You are just wonderful. You deserved having the GOAT as your qb.

  17. I need to know WHY? The press conference did not tell me WHY? Neither one of them ever really said WHY? WHY cant this work? If it was NOT about money than WHY? Salary Cap? You just said it was NOT about money. Rebuilding? Than why not keep Peyton for 1 year to just so the next QB can watch, then trade him and at least get something for the value? Its NOT about money right, then why worry about caps? If it business than WHY not at least get some stinking draft picks for him? Peyton's health? He says he wants to play. WHY was the contract not even part of the discussion or a factor in the discision? If it was the Salary Cap than WHY not just change the contract to lower the cap numbers in the future? WHY do I get the feeling this could have gone either way in that plane ride home? Will we ever know? Part of my identitiy as a person comes from what Peyton represents, that part of me needs to know WHY.

I read between the lines of what Irsay and Manning said and I think my woman's intuition is correct. Irsay said (to paraphrase) that in their talks he also discussed with Peyton that he deserves to go where he can have success in his last years of football, and it would not be with the Colts, because they are rebuilding and "several years away." I believe that was also in Peyton's mind too. Did you take note that Peyton never said today that he was forced into leaving against his will? It was his and the Colts' mutual decision, for Peyton's benefit as much as anything else. They are drafting his replacement! He would have to compete with the new guy for the job! Whereas he goes to a new team and gets the respect of being the big kahuna, which is what he has earned. And he can choose a team that is Super Bowl ready except for a star quarterback. I have no problem in understanding all this.

  18. Peyton. I will always root for anybody who is Archie Manning's son (or grandson, should I live so long.) When Peyton and Eli played against each other, I wanted both to personally do well, but I wanted Peyton to win. I still think Peyton is the better of the two, but am proud of Eli's second ring.

My daughter got furious at me during the Saints/Colts Super Bowl because I pulled for Peyton and the Colts instead of the Saints when I live in Louisiana and lived most of my life in New Orleans.

I have always been the type who had loyalty to players I really like. I am sure it will not change when Peyton goes elsewhere.

I know this may incur your wrath, but I am being honest.

  19. I wish him well before the game.

During the game I hope Dwight Freeney lives his dream and finally gets to sack Peyton Manning. Repeatedly if neccesary.

After the game I wish him well.

You really expect Freeney to still be a Colt?
