  1. I don't expect him to be back, but my thought is he's not on IR so he can get reps in with the first team offense in December if he is well enough. It's basically the same thing they did with the PUP. They took him off so he could get some practice in and test things out. Hopefully the test goes a little better though.

Peyton is very brave. I have read a lot of second guessing on the Internet about what he should or should not have done. The bottom line he asked the doctors, "What is my best chance for a quick recovery?" And they told him the hip bone option.

The trouble is there seems little sense in his coming back quicker. Looks like by 8 weeks the Colts will have blown any chance to make the playoffs. And even if Peyton had started today, would have have had a chance? The defense looks pretty weak.

  2. I think you do have the right attitude of a fan, since no matter what this is just a sports game no real battle. U watch and find ways to enjoy it your own way.

Plus with today's medical technology 81 is not that old, and truely believe you should be able to see every manning moment even if he gets another contract extension :)

I know, and I am in reasonably good health for my age. All my blood profile tests come back normal range! The lower half of my body is about worn out, bad legs and all, but my mind is good and I have faith in God and enjoy life.

Football is one of my joys. I will be pulling for the Colts today to prove everybody wrong and win big.

Does anyone know how to send Peyton a get well encouraging message that he will get?

  3. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far!! I think this is more of what forum members will be looking for...

PeytonGirl, I do not know why the forum has me restricted as a new member.I did have some difficulty getting my I.D. and password working properly, but I am definitely not a new member.

Since I cannot start a new thread, I will ask you. Where do we send get well wishes to Peyton that he will actually see and be able to read them???? Please somebody post a real answer. Thanks.

  4. I was reading the instant debate article on NFL.com about whether Manning would reach Favre's passing marks. Some analysts said that he wouldn't surpass them, but what concerned me even more is the number of them who considered retirement for Peyton. I really respect Kirwan as an analyst, since he comes from an educated football background, and he spoke with three spine surgeons, two of which essentially thought that Peyton should retire. I feel like some fans are downsizing the severity of the injury, expecting Peyton to return by the end of the season. First, I don't think he'd physically be recovered by then, and even if so, I believe he needs to take a year off of football to rehabilitate. The prospect of his retirement is definitely a scary one, but he should consider his health and family before anything else. One awkward tackle could hinder him further, perhaps to the point of paralysis.

For me personally, the only good thing about Peyton retiring now is that I might live to see him give his hall of fame speech. And personally I do not want him to give that speech five years from now. (I am 76.)

  5. I heard on Sportcenter that Caldwell said that he doesn't know if Peyton will go with the team to the Texans game.

Are we worried about that at all? He certainly SHOULD go... what do you think?

Have you ever had surgery of any kind? The doctors are probably going to advise against Peyton flying to the game and being involved in any way. Even standing on the sideline would be a strain. You are sick a few days after surgery, and weak. You need recovery time and much pain medication just from the surgery itself. I feel he won't be there for the Texans, but will be after that.

  6. Forgive my ignorance, but what was the cause of Peyton's neck issues to begin with?

Don't you recall the Washington Redskins game (I believe in '07) where everybody was scared to death when somebody bent Peyton into this awkward position, pulling his neck backwards and pushing his body all out of shape? He looked hurt and dazed, but went back in and devoured Washington. However, that was the beginning of the woes.

  7. Why are some Colts fans acting like Peyton missing a game or two is the end of the world? I have watched other teams with great quarterbacks lose them for lengthy times and still win enough games without them to be strong contenders at the end of the season. And I fully expect the Colts to do just that this year. I see Colins starting maybe 4 games, and winning at least 2 of them. Then Peyton comes back and looks stale for a couple of weeks, but the Colts end up 11 and 5, win the division, and maybe go all the way. Maybe not. Maybe they may not make the playoffs. Maybe the Patriots won't either, or the Cowboys, or even the Packers. The season is just beginning, folks! Look up! It is not the end of the world.

It is like, because he has been such an iron man, this was never supposed to happen. It is unrealistic to think he would never be down sometimes as he gets older. But he still has at least four good years left in him.

  8. Nobody loves Peyton more than I do, but he has a long, long way to go to catch Favre anyway. Maybe it is a good thing he will no longer have that added pressure to try to break that record.

And I have never heard where Peyton went back on his word in anything like this. He said he would not, and he won't. If by a miracle he does start, and then has to come out, I hope people won't say he went back on his word.

I think Collins will start Sunday. And I for one am expecting a win! The Texans are going to think they will have it easy. I hope the Colts rally and show them a thing or two!

  9. They may be able to come up with a device to protect his neck; however, the nerve problem could be causing reactions in his arms and back. I do not think Peyton will play if he thinks he cannot be a positive factor. He has already said he would not just take a few snaps to keep his streak alive. There is little chance he would ever break Favre's record anyway. He will not have that pressure on him after Sunday; and that is probably a good thing.

Listening to ESPN radio today, they are marvelling how the point spread has swung in favor of the Texans because Peyton is out. "No other player would have such an impact on the odds." Also, some on ESPN are gloom and doomers about Peyton's condition, even saying his career is now in deep decline.
