  1. I guess I'm in the minority here. Obviously Sanchez has struggled, but it's mostly a consistency issue I think. He has, at times, looked good, and made some good throws. And that Ravens game was brutal... I've rarely seen a QB take a beating like that for 60 minutes.

When I look at QBs and their teams, I try to keep in mind that the goal of playing football is to win games. Granted Sanchez has a very good defense, but since he came into the league, he's been a winner. He's also played very well in the post season... not so much that he's won them games, but he hasn't lost games for them either.

I think the Jets made some bad offseason moves. Braylon Edwards wasn't the most productive guy, but he was a good fit for NY, and they probably should have gone a little further than they did to keep him. Plaxico is doing about as well as I thought he would after missing two full years... he wasn't the fastest receiver to begin with, or the best route runner. They also lack depth on the O-line and if they lose Mangold or Ferguson for any length of time, they're pretty screwed.

I was in the minority as well. I didn't think Sanchez was the type of QB to carry a team, but I thought the Jets could win with him given their defense and ground game. In the last 2 AFCCGs, he gave the Colts fits for a half, and last year, almost helped a comeback in Pittsburgh.

  2. Seahawks @ Browns - Not fond of either team, but I like Seattle a little more.

Bears vs Bucs in London - Bucs a much tougher opponent than the Vikings at home.

Broncos @ Dolphins - Miami has played some teams tough at home. They spoile Tebow's debut.

Chargers @ Jets - Chargers will take advantage of chances given that the Dolphins couldn't.

Falcons @ Lions - Lions bounce back against an inconsistent Falcons team.

Redskins @ Panthers - Redskins hot start turns into annual mid season collapse.

Texans @ Titans - Titans win tough divisional matchup at home coming off a bye.

Steelers @ Cardinals - Cards were lucky to get the win they got. Things don't improve this week.

Chiefs @ Raiders - Chiefs make for the perfect opponent for a QB who hasn't played yet this season.

Rams @ Cowboys - An upset here would be fantastic, but it won't happen.

Packers @ Vikings - Going to be a long night Mr Ponder.

Colts @ Saints - NBC might be wishing flex scheduling could start early.

Ravens @ Jaguars - Will any non Ravens/Jags fans stay up for the conclusion of this one?

  3. Eagles @ Skins - The bleeding continues until the Eagles prove otherwise.

Colts @ Bengals - Ditto above for the Colts.

Panthers @ Falcons - Would like an upset, but the Falcons don't lose often at home, unless the Packers are in town.

Bills @ Giants - Bills should win, but I think the Giants keep from losing 2 in a row at home.

49ers @ Lions - Lions keep rolling at home.

Rams @ Packers - Is there a mercy rule in football?

Jags @ Steelers - Steelers always tough at home.

Browns @ Raiders - Raiders keep the emotion of playing for Al going through at least this week.

Texans @ Ravens - Scares me that I haven't picked a road team yet. Not starting just yet.

Saints @ Bucs - Finally time to pick a road team.

Cowboys @ Pats - Pats win 20th straight home regular season home game.

Vikings @ Bears - Neither team great, so I'll again go with the home team.

Dolphins @ Jets - Jets end 3 game skid.

I hate that I only have 1 road team winning, but that's how I see it right now. I do think Carolina, Buffalo are even Dallas are good possibilities to win on the road though.

Missed 3 games. Not bad overall.

  4. Eagles @ Skins - The bleeding continues until the Eagles prove otherwise.

Colts @ Bengals - Ditto above for the Colts.

Panthers @ Falcons - Would like an upset, but the Falcons don't lose often at home, unless the Packers are in town.

  5. That may be true, but he got his teams past the first round pretty much every year. Thats certainly more than we can say about our faithful leaders.

He did up until the 09 playoffs. He's gone one and done the last two years. Now, perhaps a change if scenery would be good for him and the Eagles, but it's clear he has regressed as the Eagles coach.

  6. I actually think Reid would do well as a GM. Not here, because we have one of the best already ( cue Polian bashers ) but somewhere other than Philly.

He does have a good eye for talent.

I do think his time in the city of brotherly love is limitted, however.

Reid has gotten better at drafting skill position players on offense, at least in recent years, but his drafting on defense is terrible. The last great defensive pick he made was Trent Cole, and that was in the 5th round of the 2005 draft. All picks since then have been at best, ok, but mostly terrible. It's becoming more and more clear that much of Reid success was made with a great coordinator in Jim Johnson, and a bunch of players that were holdovers from the Ray Rhodes era.

Many of our fans think Reid would be best suited to move upstairs in the FO, (which he's pretty much a part of anyway), but I think it's best his finger print is removed from the team entirely.

  7. No, we already have an * coach. reid is the most overrated coach quite possibly in NFL history.

The man has NO idea how to make adjustments. When something isn't working, he just keeps doing it like somehow it's magically going to start working at some point in time, and when it doesn't the eagles lose in embarrassing fashion.

How is that a step up from what we already have?

Pretty much sums it up. Like someone on our board says, if something doesn't work, Reid will keep doing it until it doesn't work some more.

  8. Reid would be good for a team looking to totally rebuild maybe, but that's it. He is not a great decision maker, is bad with clock management, bad with challenges, and if given total control over the roster, will neglect certain positions. It can be WRs for a few years, or a fullback another year, or having a punt returner one year, or finding linebackers forever. I've said many times, that Reid's strengths are a big reason why the team had the success they did have the last 12 years, but his weaknesses are a big reason why they never achieved the ultimate success.

  9. EagleJoe, I was hoping you'd come back some time. We had a little conversation about devan and I wanted to get your impression of him after watching him for a few weeks. i have not had the chance to watch any Eagles' game to see how Mudd's philosophy works with a QB like Vick. It doesn't sound like it's a roaring success.

I'm not great at judging invidual play from the line. I usually go by what I see as a whole. Like I said, the pass protection was spotty. Vick had a lot of time on occasion, and others he'd have defenders on top of him quickly, or he was getting hit right after. Now some of that is on him for holding the ball too long of course. The run blocking is actually ok as long as we're not in short yardage. For some reason, short yardage is our Achillies, and has been for quite some time, even going back as far as 08. Apperantly though, the coaches are down on DeVan as they are sitting him for a rookie who under whelmed in preseason.

I think it's becoming clear that having Peyton, who has a quick release benefitted you guys. It also helps to have hot reads or quick slants, plays designed to get the ball out quickly. We don't generally run those kinds of plays often. A lot of our plays need more time to develop, and having the smaller linemen is not as beneficial for us. That's not to say that Mudd is not a great coach, but his philosophy certainly is more conducive to a QB and system like Peyton and Indy's offense.

It's almost as if Reid brought Mudd in on reputation alone, and didn't consider whether or not his schemes will work for what he wants to do. Just like on the flip side, he brings in Washburn with his wide 9 scheme, and that has actually worked well for our D-Line. All of our team's sacks are from the linemen, and I don't think we've had fewer than 3 a game so far. However, since our linebacking corps is so horrific, it also makes us very susceptible to giving up big runs. The wide 9 would be best served for obvious passing downs, but leaves us very vulnerable in the run game with no good LBs to fill the gaps left.

  10. lets trade Caldwell for Reid ^_^ LOL. No one in your division jumps out at me and screams its mine. I still give you guys a valid chance with all your injuries. Your team is being written off way to fast.

I'd gladly send Reid your way, but I don't want Caldwell. I want a new guy who's never been a HC before, although I might make an exception for Steve Spagnolo if the Rams gave up on him. The first 2 guys I'd like to see interviewed are Winston Moss, and Mike Trgovac. Both were hopefuls for our DC job, but Trgovac wanted to stay in Green Bay so his daughter didn't have to move before graduating. And Moss actually told some Philly reporters during Media day that he'd be interested in our DC job, but we then promoted Juan Castillo before the Super Bowl was even played. Now I'd like to see him or Trgovac get a shot at HC.

  11. Our line was actually pretty bad last year as well. This year, it's not much better. Pass protection is hit or miss. Sometimes, Vick will have a lot of time, and others, he's got people on top of him in a hurry. Some points have already been mentioned. Short yardage is terrible. Some of that has been hampered with poor playcalling like not giving the ball to McCoy at the goal line when he's having a great day, going with a run/pass option to Ronnie Brown last week that ended in one of the worst decisions I've ever seen leading to a turnover. It was also mentioned above that our 1st round pick, Danny Watkins is starting over DeVan, and that is correct. So our line this week, will have no Jason Peters, and another rookie starting at RG. I'm going against my better judgement, and picking the Eagles this week, but if Buffalo has any semblence of a pass rush, we are in for a long afternoon.

  12. Eagles @ Bills - Been saying Buffalo since before we even played the Niners, but against my better judgement, I'm giving the Eagles one more chance.

Chiefs @ Colts - Colts didn't look bad Monday night, and I just don't like KC this year. Colts get first win at home.

Seahawks @ Giants - Giants at home, and are the better team. I don't see any scenerio in which Seattle wins.

Bengals @ Jaguars - Bengals #1 ranked D helps them win on the road.

Saints @ Panthers - Panthers won't keep up with Saints offense.

Titans @ Steelers - Steelers are banged up, but it's tough picking against the Steelers at home.

Raiders @ Texans - With no Andre Johnson, taking a chance on the Raiders stealing one on the road.

Card @ Vikings - When I don't like either team, I go with the home team more often than not.

Bucs @ 49ers - Cross country trip after a short week favors the Niners.

Chargers @ Broncos - San Deigo is just better.

Jets @ Pats - Division game, but I like the Pats big at home.

Packers @ Falcons - Still not a believer in Atlanta.

Bears @ Lions - Lions keep it going in their first MNF home game in a very long time. Ford Field should be rocking!

  13. Thanks guys! I appreciate the fast answers. I have queued up 2 games. One on Firefox and one on explorer. Since the games have no commercials they're shorter - around 2 hours so I can watch both in the time of the 1 game. Then I can watch the Colts game later tonight or tomorrow.

Told my hubby "No matter what ANY one says, I am NOT a football addict!" ;-)

Lol. That's actually a badge I wear proudly.

  14. They still have the talent and coaching to come back and win the division and thats what I expect them to do. Its still early.

They have talent in some areas, but the problem is where talent is lacking. LBs and safety, as Andy246 alluded to, is horrific, and is easily exploited. The offensive line is not terrible, but not great either, and still has trouble converting short yardage and scoring in the redzone. On top of it all, our best lineman Jason Peters, is out for about a month, so I expect this area to get worse, not better. Trent Cole is also out about a month. Jason Babin has been great as a pass rusher for us, and is currenty leading the league in sacks, but it'll be interesting to see what he does now without Cole opposite him.

The coaching is also problematic. Reid has gotten stale, and the league has caught up to him and passed him by. His hiring an offensive line coach to be defensive coordinator was the last straw. It was a bad idea at the time, and it's proving to be so now. Sadly, I fear we're stuck with Reid for a long time. Lurie is too much a fan of his.

  15. Apparently, Castillo sat in at most defensive meetings, so Reid was confident that he had a good understanding of the defense

He worked a lot with Jim Johnson, but he still lacked the experience of calling and adjusting during the actual games. This was a largely hated move when Reid did it, and it's even moreso now. Or course, Reid constantly ignoring the LB position has killed us as well.
