  1. The last few weeks I've needed to print out the roster list - we had two running backs in the last couple weeks that weren't even on our practice squad this summer.  Same with WR.  Lost 3 O-line guys today.  Rivers was limited in play calling due to the incredible inexperience, "hand off right" and "hand off left" was about it at RB.  He was directing virtually every position on the field.  *deep sigh*

I barely watched any football this year, so I think I only saw the Colts once and didn't even see N.O.

Who do you think would be a good coach for us?  Special teams coach should have been fired before the end of the season - pitiful performance.

  2. The only surprise in this was that they pulled the trigger today and not tomorrow.  I think Mike McCoy did a lot of good for the Chargers culture.  He ran hard, fast practices and the team's speed and toughness improved a lot.  The injuries were insane.  I don't think Bill Belicheck could have won with 20 mostly top players on IR.

However, the way we lost games, the stupid mistakes, repeatedly stupid mistakes, not finishing games - that's reflective of coaching.    I HATE coaching merry-go-rounds, I hope we get a good coach and stick with them...

  3. I agree on the injuries, but when you haven't played the best teams during the year you can easily get an inflated, cocky opinion of yourselves.  That happened in 2009 vs the Jets.  We hadn't played smash-mouthed teams in hard fought games... it makes a difference.  Especially when you win tough, hard fought games against tough teams, it builds confidence rather than cockiness.

  4. Our division is crazy tough - I remember how bad we were for so long as a division.  That combined with how good our team was during that same stretch actually hurt us.  We weren't tough enough when we went into the playoffs for the playoff caliber games.

I would rather have a tough division that prepares you for the "second season."  We are so young and so decimated and yet hanging tough.  It speaks well to our future.

  5. Good, balanced offensive day.  Strong defensive performance at times.  Still too many penalties and mistakes but overall any win is a good win (I'm so over "pretty wins" just get 'er done!)

Melvin Gordon is really coming into his own.  Great game, he was the difference maker as were the D's 2 touchdowns.  It didn't feel as close a game as the score sounds and could have been 7 point greater difference but we took a series of victory formation downs on the 10 yard line to end the game.  We're finishing games finally.

  6. Broncos D is stifling.  Our OLine is  better than last year but not stellar.  Too many fans will say "We gave the game away" and not credit the D that caused those give aways.  Great D forces errors and that was the story of the game.

That said, a couple calls one way or the other (2 pt conversion flag bogus), a field goal and an extra point that were made and we're still in the game.

The truth is that we are running out of play makers on O with all the injuries.  When your QB is throwing to a guy you hadn't even heard of 2 games ago it's not a great thing.  Our D is playing lights out with rookies and young guns and injuries.  This isn't our year but our future is looking up.

  7. My family are Broncos fans, so we'll be trash talking back and forth during the game.  I've convinced them  that Rivers is a really good guy, so they don't hate us anymore, lol!  If we play clean ball, we can do this.  However, we have yet to have a clean game... too many mistakes.  Feeling good about our chances though.  We are soooo young, but our young guys are growing up right before our eyes.

He posted on twitter that he won't know for sure until after the surgery.

The bad news for Denver is that CJ makes their suspect OL looks better than they really are by breaking tackles and running angry. The good news for Denver is that Booker appears to do the exact same with a little more speed. If he goes down though they are in trouble although the new backup (Kapri Bibbs - broke records at Colorado State) may have some potential as well. Will be interesting to see if they hit the waiver wire.

I totally agree - that's why I'm not jumping up and down about CJ being out (not that I would), there is absolutely no drop off with Booker.

  9. Yeah, he's a good kid.  His mama finally bought his jersey and wore it this year.  Raised him right and said he'd have to earn it.  He's going to turn out well assuming he can stay healthy.  Bosa is killin' it too as is Jatavis Brown and all but 2 of our 8 draft picks this year (Rnd 7 G out for season, Rnd 3 Center Max Tuerk sitting behind C Matt Slauson).  We're very young and very hungry.  Boy do I want to see them beat Denver at Denver and go on a roll.

A secret... I'm actually terrible at trash talking!  I'm just too darn nice :Dhaha

Back to the topic at hand I think I read that CJ has a bone bruise?  That sounds awfully painful.  I don't know much about an injury like that.  What do they do for it?

  10. My sister and her family are Broncos fans - they offered me a ticket to Sunday's game at Denver if I could get there.  Had to turn her down due to commitments but boy, how fun would that have been?!  Cuz you KNOW I would have to be in full Charger's regalia and in top trash talking mode ;-)

  11. I'm growing to hate the injuries more and more (I wish there could be the same game without them)... This is too bad, even though they're playing us this week.  CJ is a good guy.  Devontae is tough and will rise to the occasion.

  12. Well... we played well against Atlanta today - even without so many on D.  We were down to 3 CBs, only one was first string playing against the best offense in the NFL.  Perhaps there is hope after all.  We'll see.  I'd love to see a run like 2005 or 2006 when we started 1-3 and ended up 13-3.  11-5 or 12-4 would be acceptable ;-)  But actually, just pulling out a win after being down I think 17 points feels really good.

Those stupid "color rush" unis make the game look like a convention of overgrown elves. It was painful to watch.

Someone in my twitter feed said, "what are grown men doing playing in 'onesies'?!"  That's exactly what they look like.  The Chargers weren't bad, I would actually enjoy seeing the shirts with white pants for a 3rd regular uniform look.

The Broncos looked like neon "orangesicles"

  14. Mike McCoy is still on the hot seat - it isn't so much for this year's start as for the long term games lost in this similar fashion (mental mistakes etc.), his perceived timidity, second guessing and slow reactions.  If he can right this ship and be more bold and decisive I would keep him.  I'm not sure anyone would have done significantly better with the freak injury storm the Chargers have had the past 3 years.  Someone has a voodoo doll somewhere *she says only 1/2 kidding*

Siemien is no Peyton Manning.  That said, he's just starting.  He can make some tight throws.  He's slow on processing the field when under pressure - which our D gave him all night.  He's played pretty well, but EVERY young qb goes through regression a few times before they get their legs under them.

We are so young, we were ranked 9th youngest at the beginning of September but with the injuries I would bet we're considerably younger today.  This draft class is going to turn out to be a very good one.  6 out of 8 picks (Jatavis Brown was a compensatory pick) are playing significant roles.  Donovan Clark, 7th round G is on IR, C Max Tuerk is sitting under Matt Slauson to gain experience.

This is a very transitional year for us.

  15. This has been the nutsiest year in a long time.  Just crazy ways to lose when there's no way we should.  We're a really young team this year and different guys have done different things, so it isn't really anything you can coach other than being focused every single play.

We have lost a top level starter to IR every single game.  2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 2CB (only our best one out for the year).  Bosa has made the difference and was the difference in our winning this game.

Two more teams to toss in the 1-3 pile now that the Saints beat the Chargers.

We.  Suck.  The Chargers beat the Chargers.  Flat out handed the ball to the Saints twice.

Can't see the playoffs for us... between yet another ridiculous year of injuries to key players all over the place and crazy psych out head issues of losing a lead in the 4th quarter of all 3 games we lost.

  17. This is exactly why I'm not a fan of running QBs.  It's one thing to have the capability to run occasionally and the smarts to not get hit when you do, but a QB that thinks run as a routine ends up with a shortened career.

Sad for him and the Browns.  Is he out for the year or is he the IR to return designation?

We lost Keenan Allen yesterday - I'm crushed for him.  He's such a great guy and worked so hard to return from the freak Kidney laceration last year.  Geesh.... :-(

True, but it may take a bit more than a month. More below.

Unfortunately, no, he really will not physically.  Unless he has been working out against Jonathan Ogden or similar, he's just a workout junkie, not in football shape, or developed pass rush skills valuable in the NFL. It is unfortunate, but the few amount amount of padded practices allowed from now through the rest of the season is very limited.  He didn't square of against real NFL tackles in the NFL in scrimmages, or even Chargers practices.  Didn't get the proper exposure and feedback. Walk through's and un-padded practices has Rivers and QB crew in Red Shirts.  Bosa will have a tough time being effective early in the season.

I didn't mean football ready, sorry I wasn't clear... no one can get there on their own, just that he'll be ready to get started and will be in shape.  And he is.  He's no slacker and has been working out 6 days a weeks and taking care of himself.  Totally agree on what was lost.  It would have been better for him and the team if he were here but he wasn't.  Can't get that time back, especially as you point out with the wimpy practice rules.

  19. It's done.  It will not affect the team's attitude toward him.  We've been down this road a few times, which is why I stayed out of this thread and the Joey Bosa thread at the Charger's forum.  A month from now a year from now people will forget he even held out.

He'll be ready - he's a hard worker and was impressive in camp earlier this year.  The vets couldn't stop talking about his work ethic an professionalism.

Now his mother on the other hand.... lmao
