  1. I"m going to say that Joey Bosa hits his stride and wins it or takes second place this year.  He missed 4 games at the beginning of last year with his hold out AND was injured early in training camp so his start was slow.  He finished with 10 1/2 sacks.  He could surprise, especially as the D around him is improving.

  2. Perhaps Elliott would be wise to not hang around with "questionable" girls -- some of you have made the point that she isn't snow white.  Most that are involved in abusive relationships or date rape aren't.  In our daughter's case, she casually knew the assailant as he followed her as a "fan" at many of her singing gigs.  All it took was her car breaking down and him "helping her out" by driving her home and he had his opportunity to drug and rape her.

Many girls who are raped or abused have past histories of being abused by fathers and other men.  Some are drug addicts.  Some are perfectly innocent.  It isn't actually relevant.  Even if a woman has been a prostitute and says, "No" she has the exact same rights as the sweet girl virgin.  If a woman says, "Yes" and it gets rough, she's not to blame.

Ezekial's conduct is the issue.  His choices.  His decisions, even if the girl were somewhat to blame, have crossed the NFL policy line.  As has been stated before by many of us.  "He's not perfect!"  Isn't a defense against a pretty clearly defined behavioral policy for the privilege of playing in and representing the NFL.

How hard would it be for any of you fine gentlemen to simply never hit a woman or mistreat her?  It's just not that high of a standard...

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like one sick dude. I hope your daughter can recover in time and is doing well.

It was probably 18 years ago now.  Though she is mostly recovered, it is never very far from her mind.  We were very proud of her boldness to speak out.   She also fearlessly tackled getting  counseling to process the experience.   It was very helpful.  She is married with a wonderful husband and two sons.

  4. Last year some talking head postulated that Rivers' arm was going because the first half of the season he was "player of the year" level and second half throwing interceptions.  I just looked for a rock wall to hit my head against for relief from the idiocy.

First half of the year, amazing talent to work with and at least large bodies to stand in front of him.

Second half of the year, some guys they picked up off the waiver wire to throw to who turn left when they were supposed to turn right and the front office was calling, asking if I wanted to try out for Offensive lineman *smacking my head!*

  5. As the mother of a daughter that was date raped by the worst serial rapist in San Diego county and stood by her during the trial, I have a viewpoint that not many have.  The victim is repeatedly victimized, attacked, and her character is publicly ripped to shreds.

Our daughter's rapist committed over 100+ date rapes via drugs.  Not one of his victims would stop him for fear of what it would mean for their own reputation or for fear of violent retaliation if he wasn't convicted.  Our daughter was the first who came forward and said, "Why won't they stand up to him and stop him from doing this to another woman or child?  If no one else will I have to try."  His last victim was 14 years old and he is in jail for life with I believe no possibility of parole.

Too many discount a woman's testimony or do not understand what it costs her to come forward and try to prove the charges.  You can even hear echoes of that mindset in this thread.  Powerful men who are violent men take advantage of that.   I am glad the NFL has a higher standard and is holding their men accountable to it.  Even if one day it costs my own team because of it.

  6. 6 games does not seem "heavy" to anyone who has witnessed the impact of an abusive man on a woman's life.

Being good at playing a game should not shield a man from the consequences of his choice.  The process seems thorough, worked through outside experts in the field and seems as though there was adequate evidence.

Playing in the NFL is a privilege not a right.  Upholding the code of behavior is part of attaining that privilege.

  7. Early March quote from Tom Telesco,

    Quote

“He is on track for where he should be,” Telesco told Chargers.com. “He has been in the building rehabbing and he is on track where he should be with his knee injury…. (whether) OTAs and preseason, that’s a pretty big range. So he will be somewhere in there. We will have a better feel probably in early April as far as a timetable on where he is.  But he is on track for where he should be which is good news.”

I thought I remembered hearing something from Keenan that he's really happy with where he is right now on his recovery, but couldn't find it.  Yesterday from Keenan on 1st round pick Mike Williams, WR:

    http://www.chargers.com/news/2017/04/27/keenan-allen-offers-instant-reaction-mike-williams-selection

I can't wait to see him back, he was off to an outrageous start last year (and our offense was up until that time as well).  Having a 2nd threat on the other side as well as your 2nd year TE Hunter Henry will be good for Keenan.

  8. Chargers schedule is the 3rd hardest in the league if I remember correctly.  I like our 1st round pick.  Mike Williams WR perfect Rivers' type receiver, large, tall, big body, good speed, good route running, back shoulder position guy.  Play off against Keenan Allen, both will be better for it.

*knock on wood* We simply CAN'T have another injury year like the last two.  The football gods have to have pity on us... don't they?

I believe we surprise a lot of people.

  9. I personally think it was close between the two of them, but the QB position is much harder to learn and is rarely excelled at in the first season.  Those two points tip the scale in my mind.

I might have voted them co-offensive rookies of the year because each was made better by the other being there.

  10. Thought now would be a good time to resurrect this thread - lots of crow to be served, would the doubters prefer it hot or cold ;-)?!

Joey was a bright spot in a pretty dismal year for my Chargers.  That and LT being inducted into the HOF first round was a nice finish.

  11. (EDIT: No Colts game on the schedule.) will check the schedule and let you know.  I'm thinking of asking my husband to get tickets to the very first game there in LA.  It's now only 3-4 hours from us rather than 6+

I want to support my "boys" since too many will turn their backs on them.

  12. No official announcement of this but I hear from NFL.com that a 4 year contract was signed yesterday.  Gus Bradley to be DC - not yet a done deal but probable.  Ken Whisenhunt to be kept as OC

Some of you that wanted Pagano as a potential DC he'll be on the market soon.

I like Pagano, until the D suffered too deep of injury damage it looked to be a shut down D in the making.  Hope Bradley can take it to the finish line.  Telesco has a nose for smash mouth D talent in the draft AND UDFAs, he's really done an amazing job at what has been a total rebuild of this team.

  13. The Chargers were trying to get this done for more than 10 years - the worst 10 years in recent financial memory in a city that had all kinds of political issues during the same time.  I remember when the Padres got their stadium before the Chargers (we were already out of town) and it made no sense to me then, makes less sense now.  The Chargers have had considerably more success than the Padres.

LA loves a winner - that's the only chance the Chargers have.  IF the team can turn it around next year it might be easier than thought.  The Rams are a mess and will take much longer to turn around.

They still have the same issue of cold weather transplants in LA.  Not a lot of people move from San Diego to Pittsburg but a lot do the reverse.  And without a winning history to the Chargers, they bring their fan loyalty with them.  Ridiculous numbers of out of town people take their vacations and see their team out of town.  As Rivers' has been quoted, "It's downright embarrassing."

If you study the fan base reach circles around each team in the NFL, no team has a smaller piece of land to draw from than SD.  1/4 of a circle with the Ocean to the west, LA to the North, Mexico to the South and Phoenix with a resurgent NFL franchise to the East, there just isn't a large area to draw fans from.  Prior to the Cardinals, there were a lot of Charger fans in Arizona.  That's why the Chargers had to move seriously on LA as soon as Kroenke made moves toward LA.

  14. Woke up to a tweet from "my" LA Chargers.... yeah, I'll still be a fan.  I have been since 1970 when I was entering into jr hi.  Frankly, I'm glad whatever was going to happen has and it's time to move on.

Rivers had made it clear he's a Charger and will go where the Chargers go.  He is building his home for after he retires, in San Diego, in Rancho Santa Fe.  Moving a family of 10 will not be easy - can you imagine all of the teacher conferences?!

For me, it will probably help me get their games without having to pay for nfl sunday ticket.  I am sad that I never ever got to go to a game at the stadium.  My first husband was a Vietnam vet with PTSD and didn't do crowds, then after he passed away of Melanoma skin cancer, I was fighting for my economic life.  When I remarried, we moved out of town and tried to make a trip down a couple of times but life kept intruding.  Oh well....

After all, it is just a game-ish... haha

  15. Joey was amazing.  He was plug and play once he got healthy (pulled hamstring when first started practicing).  May have been an entirely different year had he not held out... we'll never know.

High motor.  Incredible lean and ability to chase down from behind.  He made everyone around him a grade better and was disruptive on almost every play whether he got a sack or not.  He caused a lot of our interceptions.

With Dak and Ezekiel there's no chance on Rookie of the Year but he certainly deserved Defensive rookie of the year.

How many more years is he expected to play? Has he talked about it?

I hope he wins a SB before he retires.

Thanks :-)  You know how I feel about it!  He is a really special player, leader and person.  I think he has 3 years left on his contract.  He said "the handful of years I have left" in an interview yesterday and it brought tears to my eyes.

I read an article on NFL.com today that posited that he was in the start of a fade because of the past 2 or 3 years and how he played 1st half of the season vs. 2nd half.  I always try to be really honest in my appraisals, so I thought hard about that all day long.  I don't believe it to be so and here's why.

3 years ago we were 5-1 to start the season and the first game loss should have been a win, we lost by a point.  Rivers was throwing with the best accuracy ever, an incredible amount of yardage and right in the center of the MVP discussion.  Then mass offensive injuries hit.  His weapons went down left and right.  He himself was hurt (but will never admit to such) his center said he was hurt really badly and still playing.  He almost considered retiring at the end of that year as his back hurt so badly.

2 years ago we went through 5 or 6 centers and 20+ O-line combinations along with losing our RBs and WRs.  This year we lost all of our top weapons on O and many on D.  They went from playing full speed to instant IR, almost no one came back from injuries this year.  We started laughing (gallows humor) that we didn't even know the name or anything about the number 6 and number 7 starting RBs in our last 2 games.  Had to look up the WRs.  River's record number of picks had more to do with the lack of connection with new players than anything else.  They turned left instead of right, didn't fight back for the ball or just weren't good enough and didn't know how to make plays.

NO EXCUSES - this has been our reality.  Rivers can run the most complicated offense, can run no huddle, up tempo, slow tempo - absolutely anything... as long as he has people that know the system.  The last half of the past 2 years he was directing every single position on the field each play.  At some point this year the no huddle stopped happening because the people on the field hadn't been on the team long enough to run it.  The last two games this year we were down to "hand off left"  and "hand off right" with the RBs.

Good grief - wrote a book!

The Dave Taub angle is very interesting due to the success of John Harbaugh with the Ravens, who was a former ST coach as well.

Our special teams have absolutely SUCKED for 4 or 5 years.  We had fantastic Special teams play for years prior to that and man does it make a difference.  I don't really have an opinion on the coaches.  I don't feel I know enough to have one, I just hope they make a good choice.  This is River's last rodeo, we have to make it count.

  18. Bringing this back to the Charger's head coaching replacement.  In addition to the Patriot's Matt Patricia, they have requested permission to interview KC's special team's coach, Dave Taub and the Dolphins Vance Joseph.

His name is being tossed around quite a bit on the Chargers' forum.

The other name being tossed around was this:

I wonder if the Chargers are thinking about promoting Pagano to head coach.  The only thing that worked consistently was our D.  They played hard, were incredibly affective until the injury toll became too much.  Even the young guns were doing their jobs well and stepping "next man up."
