  1. I haven't been checking in for a while so I missed this thread.  All I can tell you is that the language is the hang up and Joey would very much like to be on the field.  That said, the veterans have been amazed at his play in practice.  Nothing but the highest praise for his work ethic, smarts and physicality.  I'm looking forward to seeing him in action.

  2. Frankly, someone who would turn down really good money without thinking of the good of the overall team he's with always leaves me cold. He's really good.  We see him twice a year.

However, I'm absolutely opposed to overpaying any position no matter how good the player is (excepting a franchise QB).  It leaves less money for surrounding players and depletes a team of its resources in $ and if a trade is involved picks.  Without doing a scientific research study, it never seems to work out well for the team that over-reached.

His case was a small tear - the management doesn't appear concerned as they did not draft a running back nor secure one in free agency.  They did however, bolster the front line and bring in Whisenhunt to run the offense again.  Last time he was here we made the playoffs and beat the Bengals at home where they had been 8-0 that year and we did it with a balanced offense.

Rivers is deadly when we have a running game.  I hope Melvin shakes off last year and surprises a lot of people.  He had flashes of absolute brilliance last year.  Just needs to trust his instincts and quit over thinking (common rookie trait) and a bit of a hole to run through.

As to whether we should have moved up to draft him where we did... rarely a fan of doing that, but it's done and we'll see in another year or two whether it was a good move or not.  Just this week the regraded 2013 draft grades came out and Tom Telesco's draft ended up an A+ when a lot of fans were unhappy with it.  All but 1 player from that draft is still on the team and producing.  I try to be patient and not jump to early conclusions :-)

  4. Good or bad parenting can produce the "bent" towards good or bad behavior but is never an excuse.  Anyone that reaches adulthood is responsible for their own choices and can and will be responsible for their consequences.

We have worked with Teen Challenge (a recovery organization) and you will find people with great parents who are meth addicts and people who have suffered unspeakable abuse.  Each one of them has to face what THEY have done and work to recover.  Blame gets you nowhere.

  5. He who's name is never to be mentioned is out of jail.  He got out recently.

I'm glad he's seeing himself more accurately and would hope that if possible he might be able to connect with Manziel - though until Johnny realizes his life is out of control and headed for a terrible ending he's not likely going to take and counsel.  Sad...

  6. OffensivelyPC; We weren't home to watch the draft on the first night and I screwed up the recording so when we got home it wasn't there (my VERY bad!!!!)  We watched it live on the internet at our daughter's house and didn't get to see the Dallas war room, DANG that would have been fun ;-)  Thanks for sharing that, it makes my day!

I like Luck a lot, so I hope that OLine will improve and he'll have a chance to become all he can be - and stay in one piece while doing it.

Ask me this question in a couple of years. None of us really know how any draft is going to turn out. There are bust players every draft just like there are players who out perform what is expected of them. Opinions are plentiful but none are facts.

So true... all of us have had our hearts broken a time or two :(

Yet as fans we always dare to hope again - we're crazy or dedicated or both!

Lots and lots of o line, me happy.

Andrew NEEDS that protection - without it I don't want to see him injured again like last year :-(

The draft is too overwhelming for me to keep track of everyone else's picks and what it means to each team.  I wish I was like Mike Mayock or these guys that can keep track of all of it but I can barely focus on our team, lol!  I do not know how anyone does it!

  9. (MODS: I MEANT TO PUT THIS IN THE DRAFT SECTION, ALTHOUGH MOST IN THERE IS COLTS' RELATED.  PLS MOVE IF YOU NEED TO)

We watched probably 80% of the draft over this week.  It's always such fun to see massive, semi-grown men cry!

I hated that we were picking at #3 - hope never to be there again, but it did make things fun.  Like walking into a candy store and wanting it all.

I loved our #1 pick of Joey Bosa.  Everyone expected us to go OL or CB, but we have lacked a disruptive presence on D for too long.  We have enough other pieces that can get after the QB really well if this final piece is in place.  We finally have a true NT after losing J Wall (Jamaal Williams) 5 or 6 years back.  The last couple years' drafts have been toward the D and if we can get off the field more quickly and more often, Rivers will take care of the rest.

A lot of Chargers fans weren't happy at not going OL, but King Dunlap is a solid and effective LT and we have some good players there.  Yes, our OL needed strengthening, but mostly it just needs to be healthy.  Who we have are not terrible, you just can't go through 20 different combinations in a single year and stay competitive.  We're just fortunate that Rivers' head is still attached to his body.

#1 TE on the board, Henry Hunter to eventually replace Antonio Gates (can't even think of him being gone but he will be in a year or two).

#1 Punter on the board, Drew Kaser.  Looks like Mike Scifres only 23 instead of 36.  Sad to see Mike go (Colts fans won't be though ;-) )

Center, Max Tuerk, only fell to us because he's rehabbing from an ACL injury but he should stabilize the center position which has been in flux since losing Nick Hardwick 2 years ago.

LB Jatavis Brown can likely move to the safety as we lost Eric Weddle to the Ravens.  His pick was gushed over by all the commentators including Mike Mayock as being one of the top steals of the draft.

There's more but those are the highlights.

In all honesty I don't think we had a low light this year.  No reaches.  We took every pick and got value at each level.  Signed 20 UDFAs and last year 6 UDFAS from the draft played for our team, some even started.

I hope we're back on track.  How are you feeling about your team.

    Is is August yet???!!!

  10. His choices seemed to have been dwindling.  He's a good man.  Hard playing, great character and leadership - but aging.  Chargers' management was concerned about the number of plays he has logged and how that will affect him going forward.  Since our team is working toward getting younger and faster, he would have cost too much to work in that equation.  We wish him well.

  11. Could not be happier...  They said they won with less than satisfactory QB ratings they want to continue with that pattern.  Awesome!

EDIT:  As a backup he's adequate - if he's their starter our division will be very competitive.

  12. Question for my Colts' fan friends - how is he?  Are you sad to see him go?  We're replacing Eric Weddle, who has been really good but the Front Office thinks is headed for a sharp drop off.  I only got to see one or two of your games last year and don't recall him.

  13. We knew they would get the job done.  He and Rivers have a virtual ESP connection and to go anywhere else he would not have that.  It's a fair price and I think our expectations of him aren't what they once were but he still has gas in the tank if he can stay healthy.

  14. From the Chargers' fans' perspective - I can't stop smiling :-)!!!  REALLY?  Kaepernick?  Their D wins games but Kap can lose them for you that fast *finger snap*  If not Kap then who?  There isn't exactly a mass quantity of franchise QBs just waiting around.

Can't help but think this resets our division

  15. I was sad to see him let go.  He's not flashy, but he has been absolutely crucial in coming off the bench when injuries struck the last two years.  Good hands to catch the ball.  Good at pass pro on 3rd down.  I think he will do well for another team.  I wish him well.

  16. He's trouble.  He quit on the team after his big payday and spent the last half of the season pretty much riding the bench.  Kevin Acee (reporter for Union Tribune) basically said he was the second worst money grabber he'd seen and he doesn't randomly go off on players.

I don't think it would be a good thing for building a fan base. Las Vegas is like a melting pot for the west coast....not only that but if your a Denver, San Diego, KC etc fan what better road game to attend then a raider game. Visiting teams would outweigh the home team. That's a PR disaster for a team to have to basically never have a home field advantage. The money is fine...they could fill a stadium no problem...but I mean every visiting team would out draw the home team....I would definitely spend a weekend in Vegas to catch a colts/raiders game no issues and my wife would be right there beside me. I think SD gets a deal done and the raiders end up in LA. The only real tragedy is if the Raiders end up in SD....that would be sacrilege. What say you girlsrfanstoo? What if the raiders end up in SD?

Dear.  God.  Please.  NOOOOOO!!!!  Unfortunately, polls done on the Chargers' Message Board are higher % supporting Raiders in SD than the Chargers in LA.  People are bitter if they leave.  Lots of Raiders fans already in SD.  UGLY if it happened.  Rivers said the thought made him nauseous...

  18. I think the tailgaiting issue would be more that downtown will use covered parking structures - sharing parking with the Convention Center and Padres Stadium.  For safety purposes, you don't want fires in a more enclosed space - carbon monoxide as well as fumes.

I left San Diego before that stadium was completed so I don't know what the parking facility is for it.  If the new Stadium is in that vicinity it only makes sense that there would be a sharing of those structures that already exist.

  19. I spent a little time on the Chargers message board this evening to take the temperature there.

    1.  Those who don't want a stadium downtown are against it because it will eliminate tailgaiting, but are willing for it to be put anywhere so that we keep our team.

    2.  There were 310 pages in the stadium thread.  It's a hot discussion.

    3.  I think the city will vote to build the stadium where they would not have done so last year.  Coming this close to losing their team has been a wake up call.

  20. Downtown is such a hopping place since it was revitalized 20+ years ago and the Chargers want do have a venue that is active more than game day (like the Patriots' complex).  There are world class hotels, dining and there is the trolley system for guests to tour the city etc.  It's really the perfect location.  I hope they are able to get it there.

The Raiders are touring Las Vegas as a possible relocation site.  They would be the perfect Vegas team.  EDIT TO ADD:  I just told hubby about the Raiders and LV and it was said, "They're too perfect for each other 'Sin City' and the Raiders... it's a match made in H***"  I laughed so hard (he's a quick one my hubby!)
