I have little faith that Ballard will draft a WR in the first round. He just doesn’t seem to value the position. He’ll continue to take chances in later rounds, which produce good receivers here and there. But we could really benefit from having a true stud to play alongside TY his last few years.

Ballard doesn't despise skill position players, he just thinks that we should build from the trenches outwards. So going along that line of thinking, it makes sense for him to address WR because

    1. The trenches have been sufficiently built

    2. WR is probably our biggest position of need

    3. This draft is very deep in WRs, and Ballard loves going BPA anyways

  2. I'm fine with keeping Vinny as long as we go for 2 every time. Really his FG% is bad but not terrible. It's his missed XP% that are killing us. He kicks 73ish% on FGs but only 70% on XPs. I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure our conversion rate on down and 2 or less yards to go is around that number. Might as well take 2 points instead of 1 if the conversion rate is similar

I know Brissett is back, but TY is coming back yet already?

I thought Reich said Funchess has awhile to go as well?

The expectation is that Funchess plays this week.

"Every game is winnable" - what coaches tell the players and fans tell themselves of every mediocre team in the history of sports.

Take off the blue glasses. Is it possible? Sure. Is it probable? No. Not unless there are several changes made that we haven't seen yet.  If they are as good as you seem to think they are they should easily be able to win the 4 remaining afcs games and the Saints won't even matter. But whatever you need to tell your self to sleep at night.

Where did he say it was probable?

It looks like funchess will need a week of practice before playing and we probably dont get TY back this week. We will get everyone healthy and it will be to late. We will just have to enjoy everyone healthy at WR and be sad of what could of been.

Campbell is going  to be fun to watch in the future  if he can just stay healthy. He reminds me a lot of JU JU if he can learn to play on the outside as well as the slot.

That week of practice may come this week. Either ways, from what I'm hearing the plan is to bring him back this week

I have a feeling you are right. Vinny ends up winning the kicking tryout

First you say there's no indication that anything will happen, now you say that Vinny's gonna win the tryout. Just let things play out before you make an assertion without evidence! You've already been wrong once

    Your welcome!

A friendly piece of advice, don’t post misleading stuff and let the Cain stuff go. Maybe in 3 or 4 years after he “develops” folks can hype Cain back up.

    Cheers

I'm not hyping him up anymore. I still think he has potential, and I think part of the problem is that he has literally no rapport (is that how you spell that?) with Brissett. Seriously, look it up. Brissett never sees him whenever he's open. However it's clear that he's just not ready yet or maybe never will be ready. Despite that, I think that his situation worth monitoring at least for this week considering how short we are on WRs, especially deep threats.

Of course, none of us know what will be done at this point. Especially since the team is quite careful to keep matters "in house"

But personally, due to past practice, I feel the odds are much in favor for Ballard to not cut Vinny.

And Adam himself clearly stated yesterday, that retirement is out of the question...

...is retirement out of the question?

“It was never in the question before,’’ he said. “That was a nasty rumor. That’s a decision for other people.’’

So you just go back to work?

“What do you want me to do?’’ he said.

If he had given any indication that retirement is in the question, the whole world would've gone crazy. Yes, it's the strongest piece of evidence on the side that he's not going anywhere, but it's not quite enough to convince me

Agreed, he got hurt after the deadline. I was calling for wr help all year. It was so evident in the games when teams shut down ty, we had no other play makers. I am just not sold on Ballard.  He has been annoited by the media and fans to quickly.

Look. I have watched the Colts continue to hang on to Vinny despite his obvious struggles.

All I said was I have no reason to believe they will change kickers.

You asked why? So I explained.

The reason to believe is that Vinny has clearly struggled, and Reich wasn't very enthusiastic in his defense of Vinny. Not saying that I certainly know something will or won't be done, I'm just saying I don't know that something won't be done.

This OL has regressed since last year, and I think it is all on coaching. They haven't dealt with injuries on the OL this season, so you can't use that as an excuse. They have the obvious talent to be dominant, as last year showed.

I think the new OL coach, Chris Strausser, is mostly to blame for their poor technique, especially when trying to block stunts on the right side with Smith and Glowinski. They are simply playing dumb football on the OL right now.

In football, there are so many variables.

The O-line is struggling compared to last year, but we had Andrew Luck under center last year. You know what he was good at? Picking up the blitz and calling the right plays. Eventually, Luck became one of the least blitz QBs, making life much easier for the O-line.

Currently, without T.Y. there is no deep threat. Teams are loading the box to stop the run and are taking away our short passing game. They are also blitzing much more, with more success. They're sending more men than the O-line can block, and it's making life for the O-lineman a nightmare.

We're blaming the O-line (they do deserve some of the blame, especially when they get beat straight up) however, there are more factors in play.

Yep I think it has more to do with teams stacking the box and blitzing to dare us to throw it downfield than an actual O-line regression

Colts fall flat at home vs Dolphins 16-12

    BY MIKE CHAPPELL

...Vinatieri didn’t dodge the media after another inconsistent outing, but neither did he have any answers.

“I was just hoping we were going to score a touchdown,’’ he said. “It would have been nice to have an opportunity at the end to make a difference, for sure.’’

    Is his confidence wavering?

“It’s fine,’’ he said. “It’s there. It’s not a matter of that. It’s just a matter of executing.’’

Vinatieri dismissed the notion he’s still dealing with an injury to his left knee that forced him to miss a portion of the preseason.

“We don’t talk about injuries one way or the other,’’ he said. “I’m healthy enough to be on the field.’’

Is retirement out of the question?

“It was never in the question before,’’ he said. “That was a nasty rumor. That’s a decision for other people.’’

So you just go back to work?

“What do you want me to do?’’ he said.

The Colts still are very much in the hunt for the AFC South title, but it seems as if they’re doing so in spite of Vinatieri...

...After Sunday’s unforgivable loss, which again, involved multiple culprits: “We’ve been committed to him, but like everybody I’d say this generally speaking about our roster (and) obviously just coming off the field: we’re going to always evaluate. Everybody gets measured. Everyone’s held accountable. From top to bottom, that’s always the case.

“Nothing meant to read into that. That’s just the reality of this business. There have been no discussions about that between Chris and I.’’

Reich was asked why he has remained confident in his kicker.

“It’s the track record and it’s what we see in practice and . . . I believe this guy to be mentally one of the toughest guys ever to play,’’ he said. “To do what he’s done in his career . . . that’s what’s going into that.’’

Well what do you want Reich to say? "Yes, we are going to cut Vinny because he is awful"? Him saying "there has been no discussion about that between Chris and I" is in regards to the previous topic about how everyone gets held accountable. So he's saying Ballard and him haven't discussed otherwise.

And of course Vinny is mentally one of the strongest to play the game. But him giving some obviously forced positive comments to not bash Vinny in front of the cameras is by no means a suggestion that nothing will be done.

Listen.  U want some insight to why this offence struggled??  Listen to Lombardi who I enjoy and respect.  They r playing with a 3rd string qb and this O has no juice....no speed and teams r glued to the wrs.  That's not on Reich.....thats on Ballard.  He constructs the roster.  He has  been given a free ride from this board.  At the trade deadline, I was banging the table for a play makers at the wr position.  With ty's injury it was so obvious we needed a wr. I actually picked the Steelers and Miami to win.  We have upteen picks and tons of cap space, but  Ballard loves his picks.  Good for him and none of his 2nd rounders r looking like keepers  at this time.   People will say Leonard and yes he had a good game yesterday, but he has underwhelmed all year. The last 2 losses have basically put the nail in the Colts play off chances.  The schedule is brutal and they will b lucky to finish at 8 and 8

TY got injured after the deadline, not before.

And the door isn't completely shut regarding the playoffs. Far from it. But yes, things look bad

  13. 1 minute ago, 1959Colts said:

    no reason to think otherwise.

Even if there's no indication either way, that indicates a neutral stance, (i.e. we don't know whether they're gonna change kickers), not a positive or negative stance.

But actually there is a little indication. When asked about it, Reich said some mum thing about how everyone is held accountable and we'll see where we go from here. A far cry from having "all the confidence in the world" in Vinny

Makes me wonder if Ballard is okay with losing some games if he thinks we won't do anything in the playoffs this year. If we truly thought we could make any kind of run, Vinny should have been gone weeks ago.

Well I think my mindset has been pretty consistent with Ballard's (and even Pat McAfee if you've been listening to his breakdowns of Vinny's misses). And even if Ballard doesn't want to win, which is simply incorrect, there is no benefit to sticking with Vinny, as he is an aging asset that will get worse, not better. Makes no sense to stick to him if you're tanking and playing the long game. But anyways, I've been for sticking with Vinny because

    1. I don't blame him for missing last week. He had yet to show that he would miss a solid kick with a clean operation since he had the yips in weeks 1 and 2

    2. There was no one better out there

    3. I love his presence in the locker room.

But now, Vinny is clearly just missing. The operation was clean for the XP, and yet he just missed it. He cannot hit XPs anymore and we can't go on like this. Yes, his presence in the locker room is great, but perhaps we could get that if he went on IR or if he retired and became a kicking coach for a little bit. We cannot afford to let him keep playing.

And it seems like Reich is thinking the same thing, based on his change of tone regarding Vinny. If they follow the same thought process as me, something will be done this week
