  1. Run. The dang. Ball

If we cannot get a run game going, we don't have a chance. We need to generate offense and keep Mahomes off the field at the same time. I don't have a lot of confidence in this defense to stop him. We need to win in the trenches as well. That's an underrated but ginormous reason that we lost last week.

I think Reich knows all of this too. Start Marlon Mack if you have him in fantasy and if he's healthy. Chris Jones is a force in the middle, so Nyheim Hines also might get more usage with outside runs. Hopefully we throw in a few sweeps as well. We shouldn't necessarily be averse to running it in the middle either though, because while they have Chris Jones, we have Big Q.

There are 20 names listed as this year's top rookies, so far. I think it is telling about Ballard's draft class that no Colt was mentioned. And it is not due to the Colts not playing their draft choices...they are on the field. They just haven't been producing. Ballard 1 out of 3 so far in draft classes.

So unless you get 2 rookie All-Pros, it isn't a hit? Is the 2018 draft the standard that you hold? Will you call for Ballard's head if he doesn't get us 2 All-Pros each draft for a few years?

How do you figure the 2017 draft is one that he didn't hit on?

We got Malik Hooker, Marlon Mack, and Anthony Walker out of that draft! Most teams would call that a success, but over here, people expect a 100% hit rate

But that hasn't been the case in the games we've had against good QBs.  They still complete plenty of passes to all sides of the field except the deep back half, for which NFL offenses are not relying upon as much anyway.

You can't single out one position to talk about like its the only important position on a team.

Investing capital in one position keeps a team from investing capital in another.  Which is my point about why we have dropped passes on offense and no pass rush on defense going on 5 seasons and two different GMs.

That's literally true anytime any GM makes any draft pick or signs any free agent. That's the most blanket complaint you could have against anything. And I'm not singling the Safety position and saying that's the whole team. I never said anything close to that. I just said that it's instrumental to our pass defense. And it's ok that they're completing short passes. That's what we want them to do. That way, we can put more guys up front to stop the short passes and also blitz more often. Without Hooker, we get gashed on intermediate and deep throws. I'm amazed at the fact that you admit that Hooker prevents good QBs from completing intermediate and deep passes and act as if that's no big deal.

  5. Guys...

The post isn't saying he's gonna be one of those guys, or he's in that calibre yet...

It's just saying that in terms of number of tackles, he has been really good, so much so that he's on par with those guys as rookies in their first 4 games...

    Chill out

We will have passing yards thrown against us because good NFL offenses with good NFL QBs pick apart the short and medium zones.  Having a deep ball FS is irrelevant to stopping that.

In fact, we'd be better off playing with 2 SSs, just as long as the SSs were more talented than 4th round picks to begin with. aka Geathers and Willis. (but we'll see about Willis as he develops)

And the lack of a pass rusher and reliable 2nd WR option has been a deficiency with the roster since both Robert Mathis and Reggie Wayne became ineffective, or IOW, about the past 5 or 6 seasons spanning two different GMs.

While the comments and threads appear to be an overreaction to the Raiders loss, the embedded points within them have some validity.

Hooker has the ability to shut down a good part of the field. And when that happens, it becomes a lot easier to defend the rest of the field. You seem to have the impression that he just sits back waiting for a Hail Mary or something, and that's all he's good for.

I started him all games last year and he was one of my keepers. He didn’t have any touchdowns yesterday :(. I had 2 offensive touchdowns for the whole team and lost by 2. New England defense had more points than Mahomes

You shouldn't sit him because of the wild guess that he'll have a rare 0 TD game. JMO

Yeah maybe it doesn't work sometimes but it's suuuuper risky to bench Mahomes. And to be fair,  in my league at least the Patriots D scored 36 points. I lost because of that

Seems more and more like Zach Pascal should now be our #2 receiver.

Wasn't long ago many here were calling for him to not make it through the final cuts.

Yeah I really have to eat some crow on that. I did not see this coming

After today’s loss, I can clearly see how much Luck’s retirement has set this team back. Brissett is nowhere near Luck’s play making abilities. Luck had the ability to put the team on his back and win games like yesterday.  I never expected that from Brissett.

Anyone who had high or higher expectations this season after losing Luck, set themselves up for disappointment IMO.

For the most part, I think Ballard has done a good job and can’t blame him for Luck’s retirement.

However, I really hope the Turay’s, Rock-Sin, Banogu, Lewis and Wilson at some point develop. That’s five 2nd Rd picks on a defense that needs playmakers. If those guys don’t become solid contributors it’s on Ballard.

Why on earth would anyone have high or higher expectations this season after losing Luck??

Agree. And that’s where Ballard does deserve his share of the blame. The DT’s he’s drafted? Grover Stewart and Tyquan Lewis. The CBs he’s drafted? Hairston, Wilson, And Ya-Sin.

I also think Ballard is starting to show a habit of rewarding 1 season wonder players. Guys who peaked. Mathis Hunt, Glowinski, Desir, etc...

What's wrong with Ya-Sin? Actually he was pretty encouraging yesterday.

Glowinski is the weak spot, but what do you want Ballard to do? Use a high pick or even worse sign a random to replace him after being part of one of the best position groups in the NFL, especially when chemistry is very important for that position group?

Desir is fine. He's actually a 2 year wonder if you're counting 2017, and he hasn't fallen off a cliff or anything, so I have no idea why you're writing him off as a 1 year wonder. He can still shut down Hopkins for all we know

this thread is about Jaboy, he would not be the first thing i blamed, but i wasnt happy with how he played either

I wasn't happy. I wasn't mad. I don't expect generational greatness from Brissett. I expect OK-ness or slightly better than OK. And that's what he was against the Raiders.

I'm not saying you specifically blame him for the loss, but a lot of people have especially earlier on in this thread, and anyway the general consensus is that he played bad, and that's what I disagree with

  13. 15 hours ago, Btown_Colt said:

You think he played a good first half? You think he played a good 3rd quarter? What about when the game was on the line? Seriously, what about today did you think he did well? He had like 50% completion.

He didn’t get get a lot of help, I already admitted that, but he isn’t above reproach.

He's not above reproach. I wouldn't say he played great. He played OK. But in a game where our receivers couldn't catch anything, everyone was hurt, and our defense couldn't stop the AB-less offense from scoring at will, why are we blaming Brissett of all people for the loss?

I still feel good about the season. Even if we lose to KC, if we win our division games we will be fine. That pick 6 by JB was a fluke. He never does that. Leonard needs to get healthy and stay healthy though, same for TY.

Yeah, he just read the defense wrong. Idk why everyone is freaking out. He thought the guy would follow someone else but didn't recognize the zone

Not a good day. This is one of the problems I’ve feared with Brissett. He can manage the game, but he can’t really take it over.

No one really helped him out today by any means, but even still, there’s a lack of killer instinct with him.

    Vague cliche

It was the manner in which it was removed. Every week injured players take off their helmets when lying/sitting on the turf. And see the comment re Rivers. Anyway, not sure why I care...

I believe this is the official rule "You cannot take your helmet off as part of a celebration, a demonstration, or as part of a confrontation with an opponent or a game official. "

  17. 1 hour ago, braveheartcolt said:

You had a smarty pants arrogant response to IndySouthsider who correctly pointed out for the first time in this WHOLE thread that it was not for taking off his helmet, it was for tossing it away. And as others have added, players take off their helmets on the field of play all the time with no flag.

    Tick.

The penalty stemmed from taking off his helmet on the field, which according to league rules is an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty
