Interesting.....I haven't seen the "soft" used in conjunction with this team in a while. Straw man?

I think this team is finally going to ditch the "s" word. That word is soft. With this offensive line of maulers led by Big Q, and a fast, physical defense, I hope they can put that characterization to bed once and for all. While they certainly had a bad game in KC last year, this time appears to be set up well to win in the playoffs. Can't wait for the season to see if it actually translates to the field.

@CR91 Thanks so much for these updates!

Love that they paid Desir and brought him back! Love even more that Desir shows up at mini-camp and shows they made a great investment.

It’s called rewarding your players. He is one of the best punters in the league and deserves to be paid like one. When you don’t reward your players you start to create a lot of bad blood. He was making peanuts and Ballard rewarded him.
Nailed it, Chloe! I don't know why people are surprised by this stuff. It is exactly what Ballard said he would do. He is going to reward their own instead of bringing in FAs. That is why he doesn't spend available cap money. Expect a lot more of these. It is going to be so much fun watching this team grow together over the coming years. I've said it many times: Ballard gonna Ballard. This is a great example.

A great reminder of how young this team is. It is really exciting to see Colts management stay disciplined in free agency with an eye on keeping these young guys around when their contracts come up. It is a style that requires a lot of discipline, but is great for the fans as we can watch these guys grow and develop, instead of having massive roster turnover every year as we constantly have to release great players for "cap reasons".

What I like about Ballard's approach to all free agents, is that he never takes a "We need to get this guy no matter the cost" approach. While I would love for the Colts to sign McCoy, I have confidence that our FO knows exactly what they are willing to pay him as it relates to the big picture, i.e., being able to re-sign our own when they are up for new contracts. As I have said many times during free agency, Ballard gonna Ballard.

IMHO, Sheard isn't a good pass rusher. I'd rather have one of the young bucks pass rushing (Lewis, Turray, Banago, etc.)
It's all good. May the best man win. Whoever it is will have to be awfully good.

Passing situation with a 4 man line consisting of Sheard, Autry, Mcoy, and Houston ain't bad at all. Sign him up!
That's a combo that would make any QB feel antsy trying to drop back.

I think the Browns are the most fascinating question mark in the league. With all the vets they brought in, who will take charge of the locker room? Will it be Mayfield? Should it be Mayfield? If not, who?
Can their new head coach mold this group into something?
Will there be too many egos for everyone to get along and play together?
Having said all that, I agree with @TomDiggs. With all the talent they have in what could be a mediocre division, 8 wins is probably the floor.

I certainly hope so. He would be a serious playmaker in the middle of this defense.

Props to you @stitches for putting this together. I love reading members' takes on this stuff, especially when they don't just parrot the "every pick is great" or "every pick is terrible" mantra.
You did your own research and came with some original takes on these picks. It takes some 'nads to put your stuff out there and let folks shoot at it.

Justin Houston. I think a lot of folks are sleeping on how much he is going to mean coming off the edge, and developing the right attitude with our young guys.

The competition to make this roster is going to be nuts. It will be nice for a change to see Colts cuts picked up immediately by other teams.

Am I the only one who gets nervous about all the preseason hype? It is fun that the team is getting all this love, but I hope this very young roster doesn't fall in love with their own press. The people hyping this team now are the same ones calling them a bottom dwelling dumpster fire 12 months ago. I'm sure coach Reich will stay on top of this situation, but I prefer to fly under the radar.

A very Ballard signing. Curious about the contract terms, but I really like this.

It is amazing how much better this roster is as opposed to where the team was a year ago. I fully believe there will be additional FA moves to strengthen it even further.

Has anyone heard anything at all about this? I think it was supposed to happen yesterday, but I haven't seen a word about it.

Thanks for this post, AK. Appreciate seeing some fresh names.

Much appreciation to anyone who puts in this kind of work to look at these guys. Love seeing these posts and getting people’s perspectives.

The "S" Word

We have played one season since it was used. Not exactly a long time and hardly a straw man
