  1. I wouldn't trade Nelson for 2 first round picks. What are folks arguing about? Trading Nelson...... and weakening our offensive line big time.....and then getting a #1 contract and put him behind a weaker o-line?

Have ya'll been paying attention to history?

Beam me up, Scotty...a small group of humanoids that appear to be haters are all that’s left.......except they call it intellect. Interesting.

Yes.....and apparently, they use this delusional platform of perceived higher intellect, to give them foresight properties. Truly amazing.

At the very least, release Brian Hoyer and sign Andy Dalton. Then you have room to maneuver with trading Brissett and drafting a new QB. Everything else can be dealt with with a mixture of FA and the draft.

Honestly, please share what you think Dalton is going to cost the next team he plays for. Not what a good deal would be for the Colts, but what he is going to command on the open market.

I don't think that matters too much. Flacco was traded to the Broncos for a 4th to start on a much worse contract. If he improved for that team, Brissett could be re-signed without giving up anything.

Again, I am interested in your thoughts on the cost of Dalton right now.

  4. Let me see....how can I convey this as truthfully, and as honestly as I can.....

    I would rather eat glass.

I would rather sleep on a bed of nails.

I would rather Have Jeff George come out of retirement and throw for the Colts.

Somehow, I still can't convey just how much this idea makes me ill. I guess, it's the difference between being a fan of a team, and being a fan of winning. I am a fan of the Colts. There are lines that should never be crossed.

  5. I watched it's entirety. There is no GM I would rather have. Whatever decisions that man makes, I am backing him. First off, he damn smart. His answers are careful, yet truthful. He tows a fine line between not giving anything away, not ignoring issues, supporting the players he has under contract, respecting the horseshoe......yet subtly pealing back the curtain to say, "We know what's going on...and what we have to do".

He carefully called out what needs to improve next season. Several positions...several players. If you hear fakeness, your filter is likely not serving you well.

I'm honestly convinced that Ballard is going to assess Brissett based on the totality of the season, and lend a lot of weight to the relatively strong first half when the team was intact, rather than the second half when the personnel on the field weren't even close to what was planned for.

Meanwhile we're all about the second half because recency bias so we're thinking about Brissett at his worst, after his knee went and most of his pass catchers were in the dispensary.  The first half might as well be the 18th century.

Just different criteria for assessment but I suspect Ballard is thinking along these lines for real.

There are statements made in this page of the thread that have no truth in fact by fans.

    "his denial with Vinny"

"it would have hurt nothing to see how Kelly performed in the last game or two"

"we can still pick a good one at 13"

These are opinions with no basis in fact.

And after listening to Ballard for several years, I feel more confident about his truth than nearly any GM I have ever listened to. He has stated over and over that he will not reach for a player. If the Colts select a QB with their first pick, it will have zero to do with fans. It will be about the best value, for who's available, and it is a player they truly believe in.

Andrew Luck had to have watched this game, right? Monday night.... prime time.

He has to feel bad for this team.

He has to feel bad for T.Y.

He has to feel bad for Brisett, who’s clearly not a starting QB, and now he’s been completely exposed because he’s been forced to start.

He’s got to feel bad for Reich, who’s been severely handicapped as a play caller with JB at QB.

I sure as hell hope he doesn't.

On QB position: "Jury still out on Jacoby, he did some good things, but he needs to be better" ...

On drafting QB: "A lot of teams force QB drafts... it's important not to force it"

    Sounds reasonable...

This aligns with a great deal of the Jacoby supporters in here. There has been a lot of tension on this board, and his words tell me that Ballard is exactly the GM I thought he was.

yeah brown was one of my favorite receivers leading up to the draft,  he was also a draft pick of mine in my fantasy league

DK Metcalf is another (although he wasn't a favorite, actually I thought he was overhyped because of his combine numbers), he has had an excellent rookie season.

He has exceeded what I thought he would be his rookie year.

I'm sure Ballard and Co. have been scouting guys like Love, Herbert, Fromm etc.  From what I've seen from them, I don't think any are worthy of the 13 pick and don't think any of them would come in as rookies and be significant upgrades to Brissett (maybe in 2-3 years, but other than Burrows I don't see a guy in this draft who's ready to come in and light the world on fire from day 1).  If they have the same WR and TE set and a diminished line compared to Brissett, they certainly aren't going to fix our problems in their first year (IMO).  On the other hand, if we fix the other problems, I firmly believe Brissett is good enough to take this team to the top of the AFC South and into the playoffs.

I'll trust whatever Ballard decides, I'm just not seeing any available FAs or any QBs in this draft (aside from Burrows) who are going to be significantly better players than Brissett, especially in their first couple of years.

  11. Classic. A roasting thread about a player and the OP didn't even spell it right.

Seems folks just do what they do best.....find a punching bag and go for it. Damned if the logic fits or not, just punch away. Hey, but it makes us all feel better if we put a player or coach down, I mean after all, I'm suffering here!

    Lol.

I don’t know if either of their situations have as much to do with who the QB is as much as fans want it too.

I think TY was frustrated with a frustrating season.

I think AC is deciding if he still wants to play or not and that would have probably happened regardless of the QB.

    Spot on.

  13. It was never an experiment. Franchises who experiment....fail. The Colts were very astute in having Jacoby in place when Luck retired earlier than expected. He has had a tough beginning to his QB NFL career....but, he has been tough....stood tall....and has represented the shoe well....despite the losses.

He has represented the shoe far better than a good deal of the fan base has.

However, there is not a single suggestion here, that has not been considered ad nauseum by the front office. Please....try not to be stupidly arrogant in thinking you know more than the men who are hired to be a part of this billion dollar business. They are pretty freaking smart, and I have no doubt...that they leave NO stone un-turned in doing the best for the franchise that has hired them. Do they make mistakes? Sure they do....because injuries happen, life changes happen, drugs happen, addictions happen, loss of focus happens, and many other things...that can make a decision look smart...or really stupid.

Anyone can look back and point and say "I told you so". But after the fact...it doesn't mean %. Decisions in real time, with real pressures, and real expectations, are way tougher to make.

  14. Reading that, I have several thoughts.........

    1) I feel sorry for those who booed, degraded, or downtalked Luck in his retirement.

    2) I feel sorry for anyone who feel that piece was "fluff".

    3) I am proud of Andrew for making the right decision, and I am saddened that it caused even more pain than he was already facing. No one......NO one, should have their life's career efforts belittled because of long term debilitating pain. I dealt with 12 years of lower back pain that was so depressing, I had thoughts I will not share about my continued existence. Thankfully, I have healed from that.

    4) I am also proud of Jacoby in facing with class, the difficult path he has walked to where he is today. He has earned the chance to get another season as the starting QB of the Colts.

    5) I will agree that there are likely no fans here who want Jacoby to fail. I do however, believe there are fans here who do not want him to succeed as a starter of the Colts, and have moved past him in their minds ....regardless of what he could become.
