Most discussion have been fixated on a QB THIS YEAR and where I'm in 100% agreeance on the QB being the most important position on the field, I am steadfast in NOT taking a QB in any facet this year. The Colts basically have 3 #1 picks. 13, 34, and 44. You use them to get the D-lineman we desperately need and the other 2 on wideouts. This draft class is full of difference maker wideouts. Let the other teams draft all the QB's and we solidify playmaking positions. Then next year if Brissett and/or Kelly stink again, then we get the QB and we already have the other positions filled and still young. That's all I'm saying as there won't or shouldn't be too many teams with QB needs next year.

I have been in this line of thought pretty much since the end of last season. I would be happy with one DT,  WR, and depth at OT out of the first three picks.

Cap is the least of our worries right now. QB is.

And that's the great thing about drafting a QB. 4-5 years of value pricing.

Of course cap is the least of our worries right now....we are not paying an elite QB or pass rusher.

As far as the bolded, the same can be said for a pass rusher. The reality is, successful QB's have come from across the draft board, and even beyond the draft. The idea that the Colts must use their highest pick in this draft for a QB doesn't hold water with me. I personally would rather see a solid game manager in place while the team is being fortified, until the right guy comes along. I don't see that guy in this draft, even if we had the #1 pick.

However, this discussion is about WR. Let's keep it about that.

There would be no purpose of drafting a guy in the 3rd round with Kelly already on the roster.

    Um, no.

If Brissett rolls in to the season as the unquestioned starter, without a realistic replacement plan in place(i.e. a 1st or 2nd round QB) it will be the first time in 17 years that I don't pay for Sunday Ticket, will also be the first time in about a decade that I will make no effort to see at least one game in person.

Just as there are fans who will do the same as you if the Colts dump a bunch of cash on the wrong FA QB or reach in the first round for a QB.

We have lots of questions right now, but not very many answers.

oh...there's a lot of answers around here....but they're mostly emotionally motivated, and severely lacking in scope.

Yeah, but back when Brees was drafted, teams wanted to put the next Manning/Brady out there.  The "scrambling QB," or whatever nomer you choose, in the league wasn't as entrenched as it is today and that's in large part due to Wilson.

...and Fran Tarkington....and Randall Cunningham....and Michael Vick.....

I actually agree with you.  I think that Jordan Love has been vastly over-hyped among draftniks, particularly those on this forum.  I don't think there's any way that Love would be drafted by Ballard over some of the other prospects that will be available.  Not sure who that'll be, but it'll be some of the following: Andrew Thomas, Javon Kinlaw, Jerry Jeudy, Derrick Brown, Mekhi Becton, Tristan Wirfs, Henry Ruggs, etc.  Too high of an opportunity cost to take a shot at Josh Allen Jr.  (Allen had a decent season to my surprise in Year 2, but I still don't see him ever being an above average QB.)  At any rate, it's unpopular around here, but I see us going with Brissett, Kelly, and hopefully Anthony Gordon of Washington St., and reassessing what we have after the year.

    Spot on.

We probably would be a playoff team... but being a playoff team should not be the goal.

This has to be, to me, a most astounding statement. Being a playoff team is THE goal.

    What the bloody hell....

I hope it's not true. I've been a Colts fan since I was about 9 or 10 years old. I rooted for my team to win even when painter and orlovsky were trying to play QB. But I don't know if I could root for my team with Tom on it. I will be more upset than when Andrew retired or when we released Peyton. I like Ballard and have never wanted him gone, I don't think I've ever said a negative thing about him on here.  But if he does sign Tom, I hope it fails so hard that he is fired mid-season.

    I'll up that comment.

"I'd rather Peyton retire as a Bronco, than to have Brady become a Colt".

    Take that you Brady lickers.

My point was that an average qb on this team wins 10, 11, maybe even 12 games. That's how far below average Brissett is.

You have an odd definition of average. There are currently 77 QB's employed in the NFL. By your definition, all but six are average or below. Yes, I know you said this team.

Is any qb in this years draft going to be better than average with the possible exception of Burrow?

There is absolutely no way to know for at least a couple of years

Top qbs don't grow on trees, if they did all 32 teams would have one. Build the team the way Ballard is doing get a solid  qb and dominate all three phases of the game.

    Spot on. I agree totally.
