People gave Vontae Davis hell for retiring however he put up more years than Luck did.

Interesting with the Davis comparison. If I am correct, he literally did end his playing midseason, if not...mid game. But you said "retiring", which should be the description applied to Luck.

A mid round QB will be drafted to compete in 2020. JB will lock in, or relinquish the #1 QB position in 2020.

I thought about that one....and a few more, but I decided to keep it at 7. I also left Hoyer out as an option because I honestly thought no one would pick it.

I think you play the regulars. If guys are hurt maybe you don't push it and play them like you would if you are in the playoff mix.

I know JMV has suggested playing Chad Kelly but I probably wouldn't. I see him as the back-up at best over Brian Hoyer going forward. Maybe you want to play him to evaluate that possibility but the Colts likely have a good idea on this already.

Whether it's Jacoby or Chad Kelly I don't think either one will change how the Colts move forward at the quarterback position.

I believe Jacoby is due a signing bonus before free agency begins that will essentially lock him onto the roster for 2020. I expect the Colts to pick that up. Jacoby will be the starter again in 2020. The Colts will try and improve the receiver group and hope to be healthier next year.

They probably want to upgrade that position if the right player is available in the draft and if he is they take him and he is the backup next year to Jacoby.

There really isn't a lot of young guys not playing already. With so many injuries, especially on offense, they have to play who is healthy and don't have much of a choice who to play in some cases.

This is the best post I have seen regarding this discussion.

Another option being, the Colts should cut JB and save 9M towards the CAP.

Well, I thought realistic options. My bad. I could also have included Hoyer being subbed in as the starter...because someone might consider it an option, right?

Your last option isn’t able to happen. Trade deadline is passed

    True

  5. I am quite confident that Jim Irsay is ecstatic with the job Ballard is doing. Fans who feel he is anywhere even near to being fired are pretty out of touch with the NFL and the realities of what it takes to GM a team.

  6. The fans who believe this is a misunderstanding, or a mistake....are playing checkers, and BB is playing three level chess.

It's not about teams...it's about offenses, defenses, and the coordinators that run them. Bill B has been cataloging and updating tendencies of coordinators through illegal filming for decades. He might be filming the Bengals, but it's just more info in the catalog. When he faces a team in the NFL, based on the information he has acquired, he has a much higher percentage of success against teams. I can remember games where the Colts played them that it seemed every single play, they knew exactly what was coming....exactly. Peyton devised a way to change plays at the line and confuse them, and that is why the Colts were pretty successful against them in the later part of the rivalry.

The Patriots are a cheating franchise. They are also very well run, and no one can deny that. However, When the filming evidence was destroyed, it was nail in the coffin proof that their practices....revealed, would have struck a blow to the integrity of the NFL.

    Cheaters. Period.

  7. I predict a lot of finger pointing after the game.

I predict a lot of ________ is trash, sucks, garbage, etc.

I predict a lot of "This will be Ballard's defining draft".

I predict a lot of bad spelling, lack of grammar, and the inability to proof-read.

and , I predict that I will once again, enjoy watching my Colts, regardless of the outcome.

The future is bright, I love the owner, GM, and coaches....and I think they are doing a pretty good job as they learn their craft together, considering how this year has unfolded.

After another loss, I was thinking man the team is bad.

but then I remembered it was only a couple months ago that Andrew Luck was our QB. It’s easy to forget that we have been playing our backup QB all year and with all the injuries we have had from multiple WRs to Kemoko Turay.

with this perspective I think it is amazing that we are doing this well, and look forward to what the front office does this off season.

Well, I have not thought the team was bad since Ballard got a year under his belt and hired his own coach. They have had struggles...as any rebuilding does, but the Colts also lost their schemed for QB. Every team gets injuries, but the positions that the Colts have lost to injury are particularly important to the development of a new QB.

Let's just think about what if......

What if the Colts take a high draft pick at QB next year....and the guy faces what JB had to face in the two years he has been a starter. Few would get through and remain as a starter, unaffected career wise by the losses, the scrutiny, and the pressure. Verrrrrry few. Thank the stars that the Colts have a QB that is as tough as Jacoby Brissett is. He is double tough. I would take his toughness against ANY QB coming out in the draft. He may not be that guy, but he is the right guy right now.....and for the forseeable future, until that guy becomes a possibility. Just because there is  a few QB's slotted to go high in the draft, doesn't mean it is the right year to snag one.

In the meantime, keep adding pieces, and manage the cap. When the Colts name is called in the draft, I want them to take the player that they see is a franchise player....regardless of the position. If that is a QB, so be it. But let's not become a struggling franchise that passes on a golden player to grasp for a QB.

I think Ballard will ultimately be judged on what he does or doesn’t do this off-season.  Namely at the QB position.

    I doubt that.

  10. Here is the definition of Mediocracy - government or rule by a mediocre person or group. The difference between mediocrity and mediocracy, is that mediocrity is the quality of being intermediate between two extremes; a mean while mediocracy is (informal) a social hierarchy in which the mediocre prevails.
