And to add to your post, NCF; if we bring in a new HC then he may bring in his OC which would mean a new system for Luck & company to learn, which means our O will probably not improve for another couple of years.

Honestly, I think some on here think we're just a coaching change away and we're instant SB contenders.  Or, some think if you draft all O-Line in any given draft they'll be as good as Dallas.  Just not the way it works.  It takes time to evaluate a staff and players, just like you said, NCF.

I understand, but I also understand that all of what you outline is using up Luck's career.  He could very well be in the second half of his career, if not already, when the new HC arrives. Then we'll be told to be patient as he installs his staff and system.

The average half-life in the NFL is not 10 years.  We don't know how long anyone will last.  Folks are frustrated because the team stinks as Luck should be in his prime years.

Hey even though I cant stand new England I wish him the best and when we drafted him I wasn't happy they was a lot of defensive talent there we should have taken one of them our defense would be so much better than it is if we had.

But then we wouldn't have Brissett, and ST would still be starting QB.

I don't know. I'd say Irsay has been a pretty solid figure/owner throughout the leagues growth over the past 20 years, & in the process he has been a fairly visible figure as well (maybe it seems that way to me being a Colts fan)...

However, outside of Kraft, Jerry Jones, or the late Al Davis, I'd say Irsay is as "visible" an owner as they come & I'd take him over the others anyday...

As far as other owners respecting Irsay, who knows, but I fail to see how Irsay has been bad for the league, so I'll assume most other owners are concerned with their bottom line & their own brand first, and then the shield/ league second. So if there is any real animosity between owners (& I'm sure there is some between most) I'd bet some of that boils down to a hint of jealousy over Irsays success during the Peyton/ Polian/Dingy era...

Anyways, while Irsay is unconventional, has obviously fought his own demons, & makes the occassional twitter gaff, he is also a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and is significantly generous to the community of Indy.

In my opinion the good far out ways the bad, but if that's an embarrassment, so be it...

I'll still root for the guy...

While we see things differently, I think you have solid reasons to feel as you do.

Colts should draft a LT and move AC to RT. Yes, he's getting paid a lot but right now we can't afford to just get rid of him. Plus he would do better at RT.

Or cut him and take the $5.6 million dead cap hit rather than the $10.8 million cap hit to have him on the roster.

  5. A player who is as bad as most fans think Castonzo is would be waived not traded.

If the Colts wanted to cut him, it would have happened already.   His roster bonus was guaranteed in March. This year, cut before the new league year (day 5), he would have been $18.4 million dead cap hit.  Very tough situation for the GM to cut him.

Surely seems like a setback to me compared to what Irsay said in the spring.

If it's not an unexpected setback, they screwed up in not acquiring a better backup earlier.  Most likely, a setback. That last minute trade for JB was a good move by Ballard.  At least he did something.

That's tricky. The here and now changes from week to week. If we are going to talk about an owners impact, then it's not really fair to only allow how a person (fan) feels today, based on a few current wins or losses. We need to look at the history of decisions, and how those decisions ultimately impacted the organization.

I believe Jim Irsay's historical success places him in high regards amongst NFL owners.

I doubt Irsay is held in high regard by any of the other owners.  He's an embarrassment in his personal dealings.

Ballard deserves the benefit of the doubt.  He has said he will make mistakes along the way.  I am sure if he had a do over he would have signed a real no. 2 QB like Fitzpatrick and he would signed a quality FA  OL  or two like Zeitler.  We are who we are unless he makes a meaningful trade.

It's apparent that Tolzien and the O-line were not adequate.  Fitz would have been OK. I give him credit for adding Brissett.  Not too many better options.

  9. I heard that before about Spurrier giving him the nickname.

I know about wiki. That's why I suggested that he correct it. But be prepared for a battle if you just know this firsthand.  Look at what happened to Curt Vonnegut.

    Yes

    and no

Rex has been called that since he was in middle school

I just checked and Wikipedia says Spurrier gave him the name.

You should correct it if you know otherwise.

    Middle School?  Don't seem right.

And YES, the OP can call him whatever he wants. This is America.

Brady and Garrafalo may both be gone from NE after this year.

If 'Dollar Bill' thought Brissett was a starter OR a backup long term, he keeps him..

You cant get receivers a lot of places without giving up a future starting or backup QB?

Obviously Brissett was not going to be on the 53 man roster this season.
