Yea they had around 40 mil in cap space before FA but idk what they've done so far. But like you said they have to break the bank for Carr and Mack so signing a big contract could compromise that.

They have made only 1 signing of note; Cordarrelle Patterson to a 1 year, 5M deal, of which around half is incentive-based.

They are probably going to extend Mack and Carr this offseason and they both combined could be costing around 45M or so after next year; depends who they'll structure those deals. Even with that, they still have enough cap space to sign him but they might want to prefer keeping the cap space for the future.

As it stands now, they have quite a bit of question-marks in their Dline and it doesn't look like SB-caliber to me. So we'll see what they do.

Ok so he's an RFA this year.  Got it.

I'm guessing, especially the way the Pat's hit FA hard this year (unusual for them) they are looking to win another SB before Brady retires.

I don't think they will trade Butler away.  If they can't afford to extend Butler next year and he walks, that's fine they will still got a compensatory selection out of him as long as they don't hit FA hard next year.

That's what would make the most sense for them right now, IMO.

But even with this win now moves, BB might still be looking at the future. As it is, they don't have a lot of draft picks. Which is very unusual for BB, unless he's going to retire soon.

  3. FWIW, there were rumors that Brandin Cooks trade would be centered around Malcolm Butler (and perhaps pick too or something like that). However, Butler hadn't (hasn't) signed his tender, so the Pats couldn't trade him. Cooks was due his roster bonus or something last week, Saints who are tight witht he cap didn't want to pay that for a player they weren't keeping, so they had to make a trade last week.

I read on the Saints board that there were some rumors that Butler would be going to the Saints anyway, in a separate transaction on paper, but it would actually be more or less the same deal they were originally talking about; Butler for Cooks and some picks to balance it out.

I would think he'd want to stay in a 3-4, but he probably wants to penetrate more than he's been allowed to the past couple years. Both the Jags and Falcons run a 4-3, similar to Seattle.

He'd probably 2-gap in Seattle/Falcons 4-3 under D. Quinn had Brandon Mebane in that role in Seattle and seems like he wants his own Mebane.

    5. Dontari Poe, DI, Kansas City Chiefs

2016 overall grade: 55.8 (59th among interior defenders)

The Kansas City nose tackle dealt with a recurring back injury this past season, but the misconception of Poe’s play is still stunning. Simply put, his recent production has never matched the level of 2013 (86.4 grade). Naturally, as a nose tackle, you’ll see your fair share of double-teams over the course of the season. However, Poe was not able to consistently disengage with defenders as he had in the past. He wasn’t beaten badly out of his gap, but he also didn’t finish on plays, ending the year with a run-stop percentage of 4.0, good for 70th of 75 defensive tackles

I believe the Campbell deal is 15 Mil per.

My understanding is 4 years and 60 million.

Frankly,  as good as Campbell is,   I think it's the worst deal given out so far this year.    I don't think any other FA deal is so poorly done.

It's hard to see Campbell justifying such a huge deal....     good luck with that.....

Kalil and Okung deals are a lot worse.

Maybe I'm reading the Spotrac page wrong. It looks like to me like his signing bonus is spread throughout the life of the contract which adds $3.2 million. Does this stay on the Eagles books if traded?

Yes, since it's already been paid.

Honest question, what do people see in Kendricks? The guy has been less effective than any of our starting linebackers the past 3 years and seems to be regressing. Philly is willing to dump him for absolutely nothing. Why would he be better than either Morrison/EJax or whatever 3rd-5th rounder we could select instead?

    Not seeing it either.

Campbell's an odd fit in their defense. He'll probably still be great, just not ideal for a 4-3.

I think Calais can play almost anywhere on the dline, in any front. He's that good. Teams don't play that much in base defenses anyway anymore.
