  1. Hightower can cover. He's no Kuechly but he's no 2 down LB either. Or if he can't there are very few LBs in the NFL who can actually cover. JMO.

I think he either re-signs or gets the tag though. He'd be my #1 target but I highly doubt Pats will let him get away with all the cap space they have. He already has had some injury issues too but I think I'd be wiliing to make him among the highest paid ILBs in the NFL,

Brown is my #1 realistic target but that will depend on the money. Not sure I'd sign him to a bigger deak than what Trevathan got. He's only had one really good year and no one in the NFL wanted him last year, no one saw how well he could play.

After those guys, LBs look pretty weak. Hodges, Riley and Minter have had some good years in the past, I think.

Me too. But I don't know that I would want to pay Taylor upwards of the $17M or whatever it is that he's owed. The Bills are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place there... over-pay to keep Taylor? Or take your chances on the FA market or the draft?

I'd keep Tyrod and draft a QB high, in the 1st or 2nd.

I think Taylor's uspide is pretty much what we've seen. Medicore/average QB who on his own isn't good enough to win SB and won'w win one without absolutely dominant defense. Bills don't have one but I don't think they can justify just cutting him. He's the best QB they've had in a while, even though he hasn't had tough competiton. Pick up Taylor's option, keep him for the 2 years he gets guaranteed, draft and groom his replacement.

I'm not sure who's really in charge in Buffalo and how much job security has but I think that's the best option for both short and long-term interests for that franchise.

To not make this too OT for the Cutler to Jets thread, I don't think any team will sign Cutler to be their starter. He'll get signed and could even win a starting job but that would say more about the QB talent on that team than Cutler.

I too have a hard time seeing Ingram get that kind of money. I see him more as getting something similar to what Brian Orakpo got from the Titans 2 years ago, when he was also 28 years old. Plus Orakpo was more accomplished. Orakpo got 4 years 31 mil, so I could see Ingram getting somewhere around 4 years, 45 mil.

Orakpo had 0.5 sacks in 7 games in his contract year, then finished the season on IR after tearing his pectoral muscle.

For whatever it's worth,  I just checked today,  and Spotrac projects Ingram to get a contract of roughly............

    (Wait for it.....)

5/90.     Yup, 18 mill per.     Not a typo.

Typically contracts have roughly 40 to 60 percent guaranteed.   So, the math says roughly 36 to 54 Mill guaranteed.      Not sure Irsay wants to jump down that rabbit hole.       Those of us who were hoping for Ingram may have to look at a cheaper alternative.

Perry and Sheard were both projected around 9 Mill per.

    Yeah... that's pretty rough.

Perry has only one really good year, same with Sheard (not counting that one year in CLE long time ago).

GB usually keeps the guys they want to keep and they lack pass rushers. So I'm expecting him to re-sign.

On the other hand, I'd expect Sheard to hit the market. Considering the cost, age, he might be my #1 edge rusher target in FA. Him or Addison.

Signing him would be fantastic assuming it's a realistic salary cap hit. Curious as to what you guys think he signs for and what the maximum you would sign him for.

    Depends on the guaranteed money.

I don't want him at 15M per if it has over 50M guaranteed. But I'd take him at 17M per if it had like, say, 35M guaranteed, for example. In the first scenario, it's a 3+ year deal. If things go south, you still end up paying a lot. In the second scenario, it's a 2 yr deal, if things go south, it's an easy way out.

If it's less than 15M on a long-term deal, I'd be very, very surprised. I'm expecting at least the Vernon, deal whether it's from the Chargers or some other team. As the cap has gone up so rapidly in recent years, the contracts have gotten more crazier and crazier. I expected Vernon to be rich man after the Fins rescinded the tag but I had no clue that he would end up signing for higher AVG/YR and for more GDT money than JJ Watt.

I don't think I'd give him the Vernon deal. Risks would outweigh the rewards IMO, even with our severe needs when it comes to pass rushers. I'd go for B level guys for B level money and hope they can give an A year. And I like Ingram, if not for the cap/contract I'm expecting him to get, he'd be one of my top targets.

  6. 10-12M might not even cut it.

Tag would be around 15M. Vernon got 17M on avg for 5 years, 52.5M of it guaranteed.

Not much incentive for him to sign for so much less than Vernon. He has more sacks in the past two seasons, leading into FA, though less overall as Ingram started his career very slowly. But that shouldn't factor much since he's had two very good years in a row now, and has track record that no other edge rusher in the FA has as Chandler Jones will get the tag. Maybe JPP but he could also get tagged and at least Ingram still has all of his fingers. Cap will be going up by around 10% too.

Demand for pass rushers is so high anyway, that I think the Vernon deal would be a starting point.

He didn't really even become anybody until last season to be honest.  The Bills picked him up late in Free Agency with the expectation basically of being a back up.   When he got his opportunity he took advantage.

Pretty much. His contract was like 30th highest in money for all FA linebackers last year. He got little over 1M and less than 500K guaranteed. Basically, no one valued, the whole league missed on him.

I do want to sign him and I think he's the best ILB option at FA but the contract would have to make sense from the financial standpoint. He might be just a one year wonder in Ryan's exotic scheme.

Did you open and read the link? It explains some of the relevance.

Yes, this is one relevant part.

    Quote

Before the 2016 season started, the Falcons were set to play the league’s most-difficult schedule. But after the games were played, Atlanta actually played the eighth-easiest schedule.

The secondary isn't as bad as you think. Their rookie CB graded higher than Ramsey. Which is extremely impressive. I think they have another young guy named Worley or something too.. but I get your point. If Carolina doesn't take a RB though, I have no idea how we ever could haha. Compared to our defense, they're the 85 bears.

Bradberry is good but one needs to have some depth behind #1 CB and they need at least one more safety, assuming Kurt Coleman can return to 2015 form.

They have a pretty good team overall, and fournette would fit their "keep pounding" mantra. I hope they take him, I want as many defenders to fall as possible.

They do have a good team but they have some flaws and the flaws they do have, are pretty glaring and can be exposed too easily on Sundays. Secondary, OTs, WRs who can get open fast and possibly DE too.

FTR, I do hope they take him lol. If not for any other reason than to troll Saints fans.

I actually think Cutler will end up in Buffalo. His old OC from Denver is there now.

He would be destroyed in NY. Destroyed. (By the media, I mean.) The Jets would be beyond dumb to sign this guy. So... maybe they do it. lmao

I'd rather have Tyrod Taylor as my QB than Jay Cutler.

And I'm not a big Taylor fan.

Not many players make it back from a patella tendon injury, certainly not back to 100%. With the advances in medical practices relating to ligament repair I'd put it out there that it's the worst soft tissue injury you can suffer. @ColtsBlueFL will know a lot more than me I'm sure.

I wonder if we'll ever see Derek Newton back on a football field for one, that was real nasty one.

Jimmy Graham is one exception, he recovered pretty well from it.

I wasn't interested in Ragland last year don't want to trade for him after the injury.

We are desperate for ILB's but anything more than a 5th maybe a conditional 4th next year is acting desperate for Kendricks He slid out of the LB rotation last year in Phllly They aren't in a great spot to ask for much more. Do they need a TE?

They have Zach Ertz, Brent Celek and Trey Burton there... One of their deepest positions.

Osemele is a tough comparison as the majority of his contract year he played LT and graded out in the top 10, therefore, got handsomely rewarded. I'm not saying Zietler isn't going to get paid but I would offer around 9M.

Osemele played some games at LT but not most. He was mostly at LG, though he started his career at RT, IIRC. Eugene Monroe (and Oher before that) was Ravens LT when Osemele was there.

Osemele contract has no signing bonuses. Zero, none. No dead cap hit if cut after next year. Raiders structure all their FA contracts that way (Mack and Carr will probably break it though). It has advantages, but the disadvantage is that they have to give more dollars overall to offset that players don't get any money upfront.
