I had to question that take by listing who I would rather have as a head coach:

    Sean Payton

    Pete Carroll

    Andy Reid

    Bruce Arians

    Mike Tomlin

    John Harbaugh

    Mike McCarthy

    Ron Rivera

    Mike Zimmer

    Bill O'Brien

    Jason Garrett

    Adam Gase

    Dan Quinn

    Hue Jackson

    Jack Del Rio

    Bill Belichick

I guess average is about right.

You would rather have Zimmer, Jackson, Garrett, Del Rio and O'Brien than Pagano?

And if people don't like Pags in game coaching, wait until Reid or McCarthy are here.

The Colts were beating the Pats straight up in the game two seasons ago. Then Pags felt the need to over-think things and get cute with the fake punt nonsense. It went downhill from there...

After four years of being a head coach now, he keeps making the same in-game management mistakes that cost us games.  Hopefully l the new GM can get us the talent to help get this team wins, in spite of those coaching mistakes.

We were not leading the game when we tried the fake punt. Down 7 and weren't doing anything on offense.

Boiling a coach down to in game management isn't a great way to measure a coach. In game mistakes are so prevalent that Barnwell kept up a weekly column on it.

Yep. And as long as the AFC road to the Super Bowl continues to go through those two cities... and it merely isn't a talent issue with the Colts. Pagano has to up his friggin in-game coaching against these two teams.

Pagano could have done a flawless job coaching in those games and we would have been beat. Our entire team, coaching included, needs to be better.

Worth noting that our last games against both teams were substantially better.

He didn't have a lot of picks on defense and most weren't high..I think Geathers and Anderson are pretty good players picked in 3rd and 4th..Parry is decent for a 5th round pick as is Ridgeway for another 5th round pic morrison is a good run stopping 2 down linebacker for a 4th round pick who will get better..Many hate on T.J Green , but I like his raw talent Ill give him a few years before I judge him... I think he found nice players in Edwin Jackson and Jerrell Freeman out of nowhere..DQ has been a decent player, Butler and Adams were good signings..Art Jones got hurt, Toler was always hurt, same with Robinson..Landry was terrible for us, but made a pro bowl in Washington before we signed him..I think we can do better than Grigson, I'm fine with Raye..Raye was a part of the decision making on some loaded Chargers teams..If you are comparing Pagano and Grigson on who most deserved to be fired it's Pagano all day in my opinion..

The team clearly hates Grigson and his inability to effectively build a talented or deep roster while our best player was on his rookie deal is a tremendous failure. Don't see how Pagano is worse than that.

I see why people say the fan base is soft. People get riled up just from an article that tells it like it is without pulling any punches. I don't see why people are upset about Doyle. If this were any other team we'd be calling it a circus. But the do no wrong super welll run organization that is the Colts? Oh no they could never be that. And I assume most of the defense will revolve around 2 points:

    1. It could be worse, look at the Browns, 49ers, etc..

    2. Look at how good we've been since the 2000's

Most people are just suggesting he's being sensationalist. It's not soft to point out a columnist is being a tad dramatic most of them the time

I agree with you Introspect, the coaching is awful, decision making, etc....Bellicheck would give these same players a level of higher expectations, a no nonsense approach, and I don't ever see Bellicheck clapping for every bonehead plays they make....Yes bad coaches, translate to bad teams..

Real question: if Pagano never put his hands together, would people find him a better coach?

i read it a while ago.  honestly, i didn't state he was dating her b4 you asked anyway.

    My original post:

"Gruden won't accept a job with the Colts due to Grigson being the GM.

Peyton would have fired Grigson if made part owner.

    Reggie Wayne hates Grigson.

but Irsay's daughters like Grigs so Jim keeps him around.  The horrible draft classes are besides the point.  How does Jim not see how much of a * everyone else thinks Grigson is?"

I stated his daughters like Grigs as a very small part of the post.  google that, grigs is thought to be pretty tight with them and Irsay.  that is besides the point.  quit majoring on the minor.  main point is:

Gruden won't accept a job with the Colts due to Grigson being the GM.

Peyton would have fired Grigson if made part owner.

    Reggie Wayne hates Grigson.

If what is being reported is true, then Irsay is choosing Grigson over Gruden, Manning, and Wayne.  That is frustrating

Again, there is nothing to support that he is choosing Grigson over Manning and Gruden and Wayne hasn't even been approached for the job.

The Irsay's daughter angle is one of my least favorite things to read on this forum. It's remarkably insulting to all involved and isn't ever based in reality. If you think he needs to fire Grigson fine but to just blindly suggest that his daughters are influencing the decision is ridiculous.

why are you trying to create a dumb argument about nothing.  i cant believe i am going to respond to your crap but here, you win.

my original comment was partially a joke.  but i am a getting a bit sick of Jim the last few years.  i obviously dont believe everything i read on twitter...i don't even have a twitter account or check twitter in any way.  i find your comment similar to a teenager insulting someone.  they use the same lame jokes no matter who they are talking to or about and half the time they don't have any factually basis at all.  but at least your teenage friends laugh right???  your comment was to create conflict.  you pretend to not know what i am referencing and are attempting to make fun of me.  there is plenty of evidence to support the claims I made.  I obviously (i hate having to type things that we both know just because you want to play dumb) don't know for sure irsay was trying to hire blah blah blah blah blah blah blah  (we all know the rumors) but when I use my brain (try it sometime) i think there was more than just some truth to it.  You can just sit back and wait for Irsay to call and inform you but I will try to think a little on my own.  Grigson seems like a * to me and it seems more and more people in the nfl world are coming out and agreeing with me

PS congrats troll, you got me

Is there actually any evidence connecting Irsay's daughters and Grigson?

  9. Why do we need a franchise back? Sure, maybe a young runner who can pick up good yards but it's much more important to develop the line and build the defense up. Out of the four teams left right now only one really has a "franchise back" in the sense that we are talking about. Of the top teams in the league, I can only think of a handful that have a truly franchise back. I don't see the need to invest a 1st round pick in that position right now IMHO.

Maybe, but Pagano was on the hot seat before the season started.  A vote of confidence isn't going to do much because Pagano knows he turns in another bad year, he's just as likely to be canned at the end of next season as he was for not improving this past season.  Pagano doesn't need a vote of confidence, because if he ever wants to be a head coach anywhere outside of indianapolis, he'll have to do a better job than he has.  I don't see any team looking at his position and saying, "We need that guy if Indy is dumb enough to let him go."

100% agree. I just think it's going to be easier in terms of speculation, media questions, etc if Irsay makes a statement. At least at that point Pagano and co can focus on the year at hand, maybe a public statement of support will deflect some of that.

  11. 1 hour ago, OffensivelyPC said:

You're right, i'ts not that hard.  There's a difference between a right to ask and a right to know something.  Irsay's not obligated to disclose anything.

You're obviously correct that he doesn't have to disclose anything. At this point, however, he's going to need to give Pagano a vote of confidence if he's the coach going forward IMHO.

  12. Why would Shanahan jump on this job? I get that maybe he just wants to be a HC but:

-Turnover, the NFL is full of it. He'll get better opportunities going forward.

-Shanahan's capital shouldn't drop, the Falcons should still be good on offense next year.

-The 49ers have had 3 coaches in 3 years now and have maybe the worst roster in the league.

-If this job goes poorly it's possible he won't be able to get another one right away.

  13. I understand that Andrew will get in anyway with Roethlisberger or Brady dropping out but it's still hard for me to believe that Alex Smith got more votes than Andrew Luck for the Pro Bowl. Anyway you look at that, Luck should be the superior player.

According to Bleacher Report, McDaniels has three options (all which he'd have to wait on) and will only consider a ready-made situation:

    - Patriots

    - Detroit

    - Tennessee

    Sorry Jim.

Are the Detroit and Tennessee jobs even going to open up soon? Both had good years for those franchises.
