lol yeah, no proof.   That's what happens when you destroy evidence...DUH

And no, for the distinctions that the NFL has made on stealing signals.  This is not news and what the Pats did was different as far as the NFL is concerned.

Right, there certainly was proof. Proof enough that the NFL issued an unprecedented fine and there is a perception that the NFL covered up more by destroying the evidence.

I don't understand why these two situations are being compared. The Spygate situation is completely different.

Basically, this is like a year of football on strike in the football season sense for the Colts. We aren't winning anything with Pagano. We'll go through FA, the draft, hope some of our young players develop into stars during the season, and prepare for the inevitable departure of Pagano when we can get a competent coach and compete. 2018 is when the fun starts when we have a new coach, and 2 new FA classes and drafts under our belts from the new GM.

Or we improve and win the division this year, find out we have a good coach in-house and then build with our new GM. I honestly am not sure what to expect this year.

  3. If you read his quote he seems to suggest something a little more; specifically that the Colts stole plays and then figured the signals for the stolen plays.

If all he is suggesting is stolen signals then yeah, this is just a way to keep himself relevant. I won't hold my breath for a retraction or apology but I would think that's warranted when you incorrectly accuse a team of cheating.

Then where's your rebuttal? In 20 years, we've had two constants: Horrible defenses and a franchise or hall of fame QB under C. The only year we won a SB is when our defense was borderline top 10. Irsay has made the same mistake for decades. His hirings besides Dungy have been awful. We consistently went 1 and done in the playoffs. Tried the same offensive only formula and it didn't work. Irsay never butted in and forced Polian or Grigson to go defense. It was offense, offense, offense. That's why teams like the Pats, Broncos, Ravens, and Seahawks win and make it far in the playoffs consistently. That's why a good defense always beats a good offense, that's why we always go one and done or can't even compete with playoff teams, that's why Irsay isn't a hands on owner that does what's best for the team. We just now may be fixing that problem 20 years later.

Eh? Our defense in 2006 was ranked somewhere around 23. It played well in the playoffs but we fielded one of the worst run defenses of the Manning era for a better part of that season. The Jaguars ran for about 600 yards against us.

It's ridiculous to state that an owner that produced an era with probably ten hall of famers, the most wins of the decade and went to two Super Bowls and won one only made three good decisions. It's incredibly difficult to win Championships. The Patriots are the exception, building a team for sustained excellence is impressive, especially given the state of the Colts when he started as owner in 1997. In fact, I would be hard pressed to name many other owners (besides Kraft) who can claim to be as successful as him within that timeframe (97-17).

Plus: "His hirings besides Dungy have been awful." Here's a list of coaches he has hired:

-Jim Mora (fizzled out but wasn't awful)

    -Dungy

-Jim Caldwell (Had three seasons, certainly wasn't awful)

-Chuck Pagano (not awful-jury is still out on his legacy)

Should we have put together better defenses? Sure but our owner completely turned around a program that was mostly in purgatory before.

I remember when we beat the Ravens in the Divisional Round. I was actually at my parents house (Mom/step Dad) while that game was going on. Once I seen how physical we were with them with Bob Sanders and our Defense I told them we got this now.

That was a slobberknocker kind o' game.

Make the playoffs and not come out with a slow start, stupid ST plays, and clock mismanagement.

I don't think any of those things are unreasonable.

Right, improve the record along with tangible improvement on the field. I don't think there needs to be a magic number of games he needs to win.

If we're not contending for a 1 or 2 seed he should be gone.

Hurm, so after finishing 3rd in our division the expectation is to finish the with a top 2 seed? Something the Post Manning Colts haven't done and the Manning Colts would even be pushed for?

the bengals were not healthy that season and chiefs played like crap bad day.

Here's my problem with Chuck detractors: you want to debate in a smaller and smaller box to the point where he doesn't get credit because another team has a bad day. Just argue that his Colts are inconsistent against good competition, which is very reasonable.

I liked the Jack Doyle touchdown at the end of the Jags game week 17. Watching Luck go nuts afterward and getting it on camera was pretty great.

I also liked TY's game winning touchdown at the end of the Chargers game.

Thrashing the Vikings and Jets was pretty great to watch, though I think the Jets gave up on that game since they lost to the Pats the week before.

I'll also go with Luck's celebration after the GW to Doyle in week 17 against Jacksonville. That was awesome.

The Chiefs had us destroyed in that game then had 2 losses in the secondary, lost Tamba Hali and their RB during the game. Yip,  Chuck did a great job bringing us back. LMAO.
The Bengals came into the game having lost 4 of their top 5 receivers including AJ Green, and missing their best to LB`ers.  Who couldn`t have beaten them that day??
And Manning says he had a leg injury. Something was up because he had serious trouble completing 10 yard passes!
Chuck was a Big part of those 3 wins.  Bla!

How about taking the Chiefs apart on the road 23-7 earlier that season? What about beating a healthier Bengals team 27-0 earlier that season? What about beating the Peyton lead Broncos when he was healthy? And yes, Pagano does get credit for exploiting matchups in the Denver playoff game. His teams beat others they were supposed to, that's what he is supposed to do.

He gets no credit for 2012 man 2012 was all Bruce Arians not Chuck and 2013-14 was mainly cause we were just good enough to beat the lousy AFC South.

    1) My post was talking about progression from year-to-year so even if you are discounting 2012 then he has made progress.

    2) Just "being good enough to beat the lousy AFC South" is false, look up their results and teams they beat over that time span.

    3) Not giving any credit for 2012 doesn't make sense, I've argued this point before.

    4) If you would like to argue that Chuck has plateaued now and that you are worried he may not be able to carry the team further then fine but to deny past accomplishments is crazy,

That's why many want Mixon because he is an awesome talent and will probably fall to Round 2 or 3 because of his incident. Cook and Fournette will go in Round 1.

I don't want any part of Mixon. The video on what he did is disturbing and counts for the first couple of hits on a Google search. It makes me morally queasy and presents an imaging problem. If anything remotely close to that happens again, we would be in a very bad position.

  13. Isn't a running back more or less useless if our overall run blocking doesn't improve? It doesn't make sense to me to go for a running back in the 1st with so many other glaring needs and running back being a relatively easy position to compensate for, given our quarterback. We aren't improving as a team without a better defense.

  14. 55 minutes ago, jameszeigler834 said:

Then you are just as short sighted then cause it was flat out luck that we won that game it had nothing to do with chuck being good and he seems to regress as a  coach further and further every season.

Chuck also won the head to head match earlier that same season (in Arrowhead I believe) 23-7.

Also: he's regressed "further and further every season?" He unarguably progressed during his first three seasons, then had an 8-8 season without Andrew Luck. I would say the only real regression was this past season, which statistically you are bound to have after over achieving for the first three seasons.

Cliches are fine if things change behind the scenes and the team improves (eg. we're on to Cincinnati).  But for Pagano, we get the same cliches and the same sub-par performances.

Eh, inconsistent performances I would agree with. I don't see a problem with the cliche thing either way. I don't think it's better to brutally dissect your team in a presser.

  16. 4 minutes ago, 21isSuperman said:

Not necessarily excuses, but we'll hear the same old cliches about a team that has the same problems it usually has.  "We gotta chop wood, gotta put the blinders on, we'll fix it and get it right", then another dud performance against a team we should easily beat.

Don't most coaches pull out cliches? The whole idea is to be purposely vague right?

Just a few days ago a lot of people on this forum said that it didn't matter if Pagano stayed or not these guys would jump at the chance of working with Luck . Seems like the lead candidate may have other ideas , Ballard. Why anyone would think a guy is going to run a franchise and be told who is the coach, it's absurd he wouldn't do a double take on that.

Has there been any kind of reputable source indicating Pagano is a sticking point?

  18. 1 minute ago, ManningGM said:

Poor game planning, repeated slow starts, and overall inconsistency is not the move.

Only thing Pagano is good at is finding ways of embarrassing this team on national TV. Dude should've been canned after the New England %show.

After we were in the Championship Game or the one we lost by one score?
