This is a huge locker room load too. I am never getting excited for a season again.

I don’t think this is a reason to not extend him.

This locker room has been complete and utter failure for a while now. Lack of leadership(or nagative leadership) on multiple levels. This whole thing started to disintegrate with their response to the pandemic - the worst team with their response to the pandemic, a team captain lying to media about being vaccinated, then they all got sick for the most important games and % the bed in TWO "win and you're in" games for the playoffs... then the %show of a season last year... then a player caught betting... on his own team, then another player caught with PEDs...

There is just something lacking in this locker room.

Maybe the meetings will stop when they win a game...

If I'm not mistaken Frank was talking about how involved and present Tepper is even during the off-season. I don't think this is specifically connected to them losing. He just seems to be the 'involved' type.

That's kind of a worst case example, though. Compare to Embiid in the same draft class, who was raw and had question marks, and he missed his first two seasons entirely. He just won MVP. Julius Randle was in the same draft class, he missed all but one game as a rookie, but turned out okay.

And the main difference between a guy like Embiid and a guy like Exum is probably just that Embiid is better, and maybe Exum didn't develop because, like a lot of raw but talented guys, he just wasn't good enough to make it in the NBA. I mean, he played his entire rookie season, and averaged 4.8 points/game, as the fifth pick in the draft, on a bad team. That's already a little underwhelming.

It's a huge letdown, but it was always a possibility. Just like it is for every player on every team. Guys get injured every week. It sucks that it's the guy we're hoping will become our franchise QB, but I don't think it reflects on the operation or even the trajectory in a meaningful way. Sure, it slows his development, but I think we saw enough to know that we can build around Richardson moving forward, we don't need to keep looking for a QB, this team will go as far as he can take us. In my mind, we can turn the page to the next phase of team building in 2024.

I hope you are right. IMO there are players that will succeed almost no matter what circumstances you put them in. And there are some that will fail almost not matter what circumstances you put them in, but the vast majority are influenced by their environment, luck, etc.

Lets hope AR has more good things on his side than that negative of this injuiry and he can overcome it. With that said... I don't know what the Colts do if my some chance they end up in position to draft Williams or Maye...

Is it the nature of the injury that bugs you? Would you be just disappointed if he had a torn ACL and was clearly out for the season?

I get being upset, and seeing this as a setback to his development. I just don't know if I see it as such a drastic disappointment. Injuries happen, it's a fact of life in the NFL.

The nature of the injury adds a bit to my anxiety about the recovery, but it's mainly about him having to miss a season he needed to play in and develop in. And then add to it that it's an injury(and possible surgery) for the shoulder of the throwing arm of a QB...

It's just a huge let down. Like I said - lost season all around IMO. This was priority no. 1, no. 2 and no. 3 in my books - getting Richardson playing in games(experience), development, having healthy season. And it's all done now. Week 5. And add the anxiety from the uncertainty that gets introduced by a serious injury to a QB who hasn't developed yet.

I am a Jazz fan in the NBA and this reminds me of Dante Exum. He showed some promise, but then just got pummelled by injuries and never got a chance to develop his game. This is especially important for a player that needs to play and needs to learn and develop his game.

  5. I am very down after Richardson's injury and subsequent news about the severity of it. It's quite possibly the worst thing to happen to this franchise since Luck's retirement. This seems like a lost season and it's just week 6. We are not competitive(at the highest level) and I didn't expect us to be competitive so... not much to look forward to in this regard. And the most important thing for this Colts team this year - Richardson's development, has turned into a complete bust. He played only about 10 quarters worth of snaps and we will need to wait until next year to see any progression or improvement whatsoever. And this is the one thing he needed the most - experience and snaps. Absolute bust of a season in that regard too. Quite honestly... I would have preferred him looking worse to start off but being healthy and able to get into rhythm as the season progressed... alas...

I guess the positive is - he didn't look out of place when he was actually playing and he was showing some good things, but I thought there was a lot that needed improvement. The hope now is that this injury won't derail his development :(

(I guess this is not specifically Jags game reaction, but yah... this is what I wanted to share and what's at the front of my mind even after that game so... apologies...)

He will be good next season, I am convinced of that after what I have seen of him. No worries my friend.

I hope so. It's just so disappointing. He needed reps so much. And now all he gets this season are what? 2 games... :(

So it turns out, Young isn't grasping the offense that well (you can kind of see that by how he has been playing).  I get it, he's a rookie, and my standards aren't that high for a rook to grasp right away...so I wouldn't criticize that.  But...

If he's short, not particularly strong, not a rocket arm, not elite accuracy, not great speed, and takes a while to grasp the offense....what exactly were his qualifications to be rated the number 1 prospect?

Production?...there are lots of QBs that have great college production who's size and physical traits don't project well into the NFL.  Purdy, Minshew, Sam, Bennett, all come to mind, and I'm sure there are other QBs too that have gotten left behind.

I never understood the Young love back then, and it becomes even a greater mystery to me.

It was mainly his feel for the game... anticipation, improviastional ability... accuracy was pretty good too...

I ultimately didn't see how it will translate at the next level with him too. Just at that size you need some exceptional physical attribute to compensate for the size disparity. But he's neither fast enough, nor his armstrength is good enough to qualify IMO.

We will see how he pans out ultimately. Lets not close the door for him just yet. For example, I had very similar feelings about Tua(though he was a bit bigger). and he's turned into a very efficient QB with the right coaching and supporting cast..

This goes back to Reich. Why would he put this much on a rookie QB.

I'm not sure how much this is true about Steichen and Richardson. From what I've heard Steichen's offense is pretty verbose too... and Richardson mastering it is just one aspect of how impressive he's been and why they gave him the starting spot.

If Stroud continues to play well, teams won't be using that test anymore.

I disagree. The helpfulness of a test is not determined by the success of one player, be it in positive or negative direction. It will add another data point. One that they might have needed since they've been saying that so far no QB who scored low has succeeded. It might help them better contextualize what the test is saying about the prospects... or it might just be an outlier. :dunno:

    Jeudy ran 4.45 - that's not speedster.

Jeudy is known as a route runner more than anything. His speed is perfectly good to be a threat anywhere on the field IMO.

I wonder how much he would cost... both in assets and in money next summer. I would be kind of reluctant to pay 2 receivers top money at the same time. IMO a more workable option is to have one vet on big money and one top level draft pick... (*cough*MHJ*cough*)

He is working out those qbs cause that is the style of offence he is running. His recent history has been Hurts and Richardson who are running qbs. However, he did work with Herbert and although athletic, I wouldn't describe him as a running qb and I bet the offence was way different under Steichen. We will never know who he really wanted  if Stroud or Young was there at 4, Would they still have taken  Richardson?

I honestly think yes. He would have wanted Richardson.

People use the word "tank" in a lot of different ways, and it bugs me. If a team decides to play a younger player over a more known quantity veteran, people start accusing them of tanking.

For me, this was a 'let's see what we have' season for the Colts. Still is, IMO. We needed to know if the OL is as bad as it looked last year, and if our new coaching staff can get some improvements out of them. We need to know if any of the young guys in the secondary can play (Flowers was playing well, Brents looks promising), and whether some of the third/fourth year guys will step up (Blackmon in particular). Most importantly, do we have a HC/QB combo that we can win with.

I think this kind of evaluation is a very important part of team building. I don't think it's tanking. And I agree with you, there's no way you evaluate your team after a month and say 'it's looking promising, now let's shut it down so we can get a better draft spot.'

For me any decision that takes into account draft position is tanking. In other words - you can play suboptimal lineups or make subptimal moves for variety of reasons(bad coaching, bad GMing, prioritizing development of youth over wins, etc.), but the moment your draft position is even partially the reason you are making a decision... this makes it tanking automatically.

And for the record - I do NOT object to tanking in general with some minor exceptions. As long as you are playing within the rules of the league, everything is fair game IMO. As long as the players themselves don't lose on purpose I'm OK with it for the most part.

Everything indicating four weeks is a guess right now. It's a serious injury, even if he's back in four weeks.

I think it's probably a 50/50 situation, and the benefit of multiple opinions is that you can form a professional consensus before choosing a course of action. And I think this happens more often than it gets reported. I'd expect nothing less when talking about the QB's throwing shoulder.

Yeah, it probably is not clearcut decision and that means it's serious enough where surgery is a legit option :(

It's fair to count it that way, and that's how everyone will view it. I'm more interested in how it impacts cap space than how it gets reported. It doesn't change my opinion of the value of the contract, it just tells me how the Colts will navigate around it.

Malki is toxic. The times I felt the most upset about this situation were the times when he was stirring the pot. Including stuff like what you just linked to. This dude sucks.

Agreed. I have no idea how he has any clients. You cannot convince me that the same outcome(or even better for Taylor) couldn't have been reached in a much more conventional manner.
