I don't know JT but from everything I heard in the past he was a great teammate. You give me the impression that you think he is a conniver and has no regard for his team but only about himself. Sorry if you feel this way but my impression of JT is entirely different. Yes he wants to get paid more but I don't think he would jeopardize his career in this way.

I don't know what kind of teammate he is. Right now it seems like his highest priority is getting paid and getting away from the Colts. Everything from the reports I've heard around this whole situation suggests to me that JT was faking/exaggerating an injury and there are serious reports that the Colts believe this to be the case too. The very fact that right after he was left on PUP for the first 4 games, there were reports that JT is surprised that he's left on PUP and that he would have played if the Colts activated him before the season started, confirms to me that what is most likely happening is that he's following the advice and suggestions that NFLPA's execs were floating around IN THE OPEN during the summer - that players use fake/exaggerated injuries to impact contract negotiations.

So what would you do? I've been saying we should incentivize him, but I know that's a double edged sword.

I'm on the record that we should have traded him BEFORE he staged ... whatever this is. I thought we should have traded him before we left him on PUP for the start of the season. I think we should trade him now too...

Of course this all with the caveat that you don't just gift him to whoever offers you a bag of chips. If noone gives you more than what you can get as compensatory pick, just keep him. But if you are getting offers like 2nd and 3d or 2nd and 4th, 2x 3ds... I think I'd take it and just move on.

Contract negotiations are about leverage. What he wants, or "deserves," is likely different from what he can actually get. Especially since he's not a free agent.

And I understand any NFL player wanting to get a new contract before playing their final year, especially a good RB. But players play out their contracts all the time in the NFL, even RBs. It's not unfair or unreasonable for the Colts to tell a player that he won't be extended right away. Even the great Peyton Manning played out his contract, twice in fact. So taking it as disrespect or a lack of appreciation is misguided.

I feel like if we don't trade him he will fake another injury or just refuse to play even with the slightest of discomfort...

I haven't found a rule saying he can't. The Patriots traded Stephon Gilmore to the Panthers while he was still on PUP.

Yeah, it's probably not an official rule, but more of a practical consideration when a team is acquiring a player. First - teams don't usually want to trade for injured players, and second... if the player is exaggerating... (*cough, cough*... faking *cough*) injuries and tells the team acquiring him behind the scenes "hey, i'm not actually injured, you should trade for me", it tells that new team that this player is willing to do something like that and might do it to them in the future... and both of those make such a player less desireable. Thus.. players on PUP or IR being traded really rarely(just to be clear - them actually being injured is the much more relevant consideration).

If he was aware of him, but still taking that kind of contact (and losing the ball on at least one of those hits), then I have different questions. There was one where I thought he should have seen the blitz, but he didn't do anything to protect himself or get rid of the ball, so I assumed he didn't see it.

    Look at those:

He's drifting the moment Hamilton appears past the LoS....  no idea what to think about it...

Minshew didn't even see Hamilton most of the time. And he was apparently in charge of protections for this game. So we had no recognition, no shifts, no hot routes, etc. They finally figured it out on a couple plays in the second half, but we still didn't really burn them. I bet this is something that Minshew has struggled with in the past, and the Ravens knew it.

I think we're still a ways off from being able to expose blitzing teams. Ultimately, it's on the QB, and we won't have that level of experience and ability at QB until Richardson figures it out.

I am a bit confused about whether Minshew was seeing Hamilton or not. When watching during the game I thought he was not seeing him at all... but then I watch replays and... he's drifting away from Hamilton pretty much from the snap... to me it looks like he's seeing but being too slow to get rid off the ball. I don't know...

If the Ravens can get value out of JT with Lamar at QB, why can't we get value out of JT with Richardson at RB? I would think they'd value the RB position the same way everyone else does.

If the idea is to use him just for this year - then yes, we can use him the same way with Richardson. If we want to not lose value on him leaving for nothing, then we probably need to trade him. The Ravens are probably closer to contention than us so that was my thinking.

Zach Moss had a strong game yesterday, and never once looked like a dynamic athlete. He even made that great catch on the TD throw, and he's never been considered a big time receiving threat. Alexander Mattison looked bad the first two weeks, and had a nice day yesterday (Chargers might have a terrible defense though). Rookie RBs and journeyman vets are having huge games. Early returns this season seem to be reinforcing the idea that it's not good business to pay big money for RBs.

Agreed. Moss showed exactly why you don't need to pay 15M a year for a super dynamic RB. Because even mediocre options give you a close approximation of the production/impact of what the superstar RB gives you. It's much better to use that money on positions where the difference between a 15M player and a league minimum player is MUCH MUCH bigger.

I thought maybe you were saying that you know AR is going to be Mahomes or Allen by the fact he played well during a scripted play opening drive.

I don't KNOW it... but that's the hope. That he will develop into something resembling Allen. Maybe even better. But we are not there or close to it right now... so... for now executing a scripted play drive seamlessly is a good start. Better than Allen was in his rookie year anyways.

I think AR is showing to have the poise he showed in college.  He has done better in the accuracy area than in college, but frankly, he seems less athletic then he looked...might have something to do with NFL caliber defender speed all over the field.

I don't think he looks less athletic. But yes - the NFL defenders make the margins and spaces much much tighter. This is not surprising. He has 3 seamless rushing TDs in 5 quarters of play.

I haven't seen him do any long balls to compare with what he did in college....against college speed defenders.

I kind of feel like he's trying too hard to be methodical and quick with his reads right now and he probably misses a few deep shots because of it. JT O'Sullivan pointed out one such opportunity in one of his videos. BTW, keep in mind that coverage dictates a lot of what areas of the field offenses target. For example, in game 1 vs the Jags they played almost exclusively 2 deep zone, which is specifically designed to take away the deep shots. It's not a bad thing that Richardson didn't test them repeatedly, on the contrary - it's good that he played within the offense and tried to execute rather than hero-ball.

But he did throw that beautiful deep out route that Pierce dropped in pre-season. I don't have much doubts that AR can actually make those throws.

Yes, I know.  And Young was great at a lot of things in college.

Its very difficult to make that throw, and its obvious the way that HOU lit up JAX through the air, Ryans sees Stroud's passing ability differently than SS sees ARs passing ability in what they want him to do.

We will see in due time what Steichen sees in Richardson and what Richardson is ready for. Keep in mind that especially for Richardson this will be a few years process of development to anything resembling the final product.

With that said... Stroud's ability to throw a pretty(and accurate) ball has never been the question. It's truly beautiful to watch when he has a clean platform.

I think both of them can be great QBs in this league, even if in different ways. They were my QB1 and QB2 in this draft and so far I feel good about my 'evaluation' but lets not get it twisted... it's still VERY VERY early for both of them. Just enjoy the ride...

Stroud dropped a 40 yard bomb between double coverage to set up a TD.  If Trevor or AR tried that (college long ball "accuracy" aside), it would probably fall incomplete.  Then they have to run about 10 plays to get that 40 yards, with lots of bad things that can happen.

Richardson was one of the best long-throw passers in college football last year. :dunno:

I don't know how we kept allowing Minshew to get his noodle knocked by this same guy on the same blitz over and over again!

I think Minshew allowed that himself... If I had to bet, he probably was the one responsible for identifying that blitzer and hitting the hot read when Hamilton blitzed...
