The more players who play positions the Colts care less about (like QB) who get picked before Indy’s turn at 15, the better.

Then the players the Colts do care about slide down to the us.   So if somehow 5 QBs get taken up high, that’s great!   We know 3 WRs will get taken.  A handful of tackles.  Maybe Bowers, maybe a corner or two.    Suddenly, the Colts are in the clock with lots of good choices!

If Ballard trades back, it’s hard to see him moving lower than 19-20-ish.  He’s telegraphed the first round more than any other.

FWIW:  the teams after the Colts:

    16. Seat

    17. JVille

    18. Cin

    19. Rams

    20. Pitt

    21.  Mia

    22.  Phi

Philadelphia, Miami and Pittsburgh seem like the trade partners that make the most sense to me.

There isn’t one he just wants Ballard fired.

Yeah, that's where I was going. If you consistently say "______ isn't enough" Yet you don't have a parameter which you would consider a success you can never think that person is successful. Frankly it's a sad way to think always living with disappointment.

I really shouldn't have to answer that. It's winning percentage, play off appearances, play off wins, division titles and AFC titles. Where do u think we rank when we consider all of those bearing in mind we also played in a joke division for the last 7 years.

Well if you keep bringing up win percentage then you should have an answer of what you think would be acceptable

Hmmmm. I really don't think what hexiw saying is dumb. It's a football forum and all aboutcjustvsexpreaaing

I was never good at math but usually, when someone scored less than 50% at a test and/or a task, it meant they failed. The only thing about Ballard is that he is continually given the excuse that his dog ate his homework, so he couldn't study, and therefore, that is the reason why he failed. I'm making a comparison to losing  Luck lol..

what would you consider an acceptable win percentage?

The only similarities that Ballard and Veach have is that they were both on KC at the time Mahomes was drafted (Veach is the GM now obviously), and they both build well through the draft. Other than that, they are different in every other way as GMs.

You are correct, Ballard is more like Dorsey. Ballard is actually best friends with Dorsey. They had a thing in the draft where Dorsey always prank called Ballard during the draft. Was kinda funny.

If AR hits, then we will have gotten there as a playoff team the slow way. However, with Ballard, it will have taken a lot onger than it ever should have. People can blame Lucks retirement, Reich, or whatever, but GMs generally don't start with a franchise QB when they take over a team. IMO, Ballard was a scout who had no idea how to be a GM when he took over, and when Luck retired, it completely exposed him. He finally figured it out 7 years in his tenure. Might be too little, too late.

I have to say I miss the emojis on these posts because the bolded had me laughing. He was highly sought after and turned down jobs. He has also been fairly consistent and hasn't changed his philosophy, his approach was very similar to the chiefs, build through the draft and find a veteran to bridge until you find a rookie you like unfortunately he couldn't find his version of Alex Smith.

Pittman is the only definite hit Ballard has had since being the GM. When Downs and Pierce are maybe, and they're the next best thing, that's not a ringing endorsement. IMO, we'll take a WR in the first two days again. Probably round 2.

I'm assuming you are just going off WR hits, because there has been alot of draft hits.

After the first round, would not be surprised if Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper is not high on Ballard's draft Board. He has a similar wiry build as Leonard ( 6'3" 230lbs ) with a good wingspan, very good sideline to sideline speed (4.51 -2nd fastest among pure linebackers), and excellent lateral movement.. Has eight pass break-ups over the  last 2 seasons. Has a 9.34 RAS score which ranked in the top 10% of all LB's since 1987. Impressed in interviews as someone smart and mature. He is considered a solid tackler with good football instincts. He allowed 14 pass completions for the entire 2024 season, 17 tackles for loss, and 8 sacks for an under performing A&M team n the SEC.

Colts desperately could use  a coverage / blitz capable linebacker to replace the production of Okereke. Cooper appears to be a Ballard type pick who would fill a big need.

I would really like us to sign Cooper, I don't have confidence in Franklin and Speeds ability to cover which Cooper is a true 3 down LB while Franklin and Speed should be off the field on 3rd downs

  7. Interesting that they gave up a 2nd round pick and then rework the contract as a 1 year deal, that seems like too high of a draft pick for a one year rental. I feel these type of deals don't work out for the team receiving the player to often but we will see, the Texans are definitely going all in.

Why in the world is Ballard waiting to sign a safety, most notably Blackmon? He’s not gonna be any cheaper if they wait another few weeks so just sign him already to guarantee we have a starting caliber player back there before someone else does. Makes no sense to me.

I think we have hit the point everyone is waiting for after the draft to fill holes.

The cost for Reddick was a conditional 3rd rd pick in 2026.  Not 2024 not 2025 but 2026.  The price for Reddick was definitely worth it.  He’s only 29.  A new contract will secure him for three or four years.  Howie and Joe Douglas are buddies.  They are both happy with the trade.  Ballard thought Hunter was a better fit.  It’s about finding the right fit when a trade is made.  Ballard could still be shopping for all we know.

It was a 3rd that can turn into a 2nd with the right conditions and the fact that it's in 2026 doesn't change the fact that it is a 2nd/3rd rounder. Frankly they overpaid for him.

As where the Colts fit with this trade, it doesn't make sense because of the cost and you have to ask the question how big of a difference is Reddick to our current starter?" Which Reddick fits Ebukam's role more than Payes. Ebukam had 9.5 sacks in his first season, and hopefully with the new DL coach he have at least 9 sacks this season as well. So is the 2nd and 3rd rounder + the new contract worth the slight upgrade that Reddick is? I say no because Ebukam could be just as good if not better this year. (Granted sacks aren't the be all for comparing players, I'm just using them to simplify the argument without getting to far into the weeds.)

Hunter would have replaced Paye most likely which would have been a bigger upgrade worth the contract (without giving draft picks away).

How I always look at these trades is what the floor and ceiling of player A is compared to the current player B, and are the assets that are being traded/contract being given worth the difference between the ceiling of current player B to the floor of the new Player A.
