We did try to sign Manny Lawson so that tells me we may be looking at picking up a 3-4 OLB. I don't think it is a need at this point but you can never really have enough pass rushers. That being said there are better 3-4 OLB's coming out next year to use an early pick on. Unless of course this is absolutely Freeney's last year and Jerry Hughes continues to blow.
-
.....but this is really very much my point...why wait until you absolutely need one?....it's not like you can just pick one off a tree....he's almost 40!....how much longer can he play?....
Until he proves he can't.
-
We don't want to waste a draft pick in a crucial draft on a kicker until we absolutely need one.
-
Would Stanton force a trade again? Poor guy. I can't see them doing that to him.
-
.............same basic argument could be made for Saturday, Addei, Clark........
Except Addai and Clark are finished or else they'd be playing on some other team now. Kicker is one spot where you can be old and still be elite

Idk what fans your talking about even NFL players say the Seahawks have the better jersey out of all. I'd love for the colts to look like Oregon they'd look good while playing, and you may not care about fans like that but colts marketing sure do.
To each his own but I think the Seahawks new uni's are pretty bad. I think Oregon has the second ugliest uniforms in football next to the new Maryland ones. The Colts are an old franchise will protect the brand image like the Packers, Bears, Steelers, Cowboys etc. I'm sure some people out there call Michigan, Texas, Penn St., Alabama etc. uniforms boring, but I would argue they are the best in football because of the tradition. Oregon's look like an acid trip. Oregon had no real football tradition until recently so that is why they had to go off the map and let Phil Knight and Nike do whatever he wanted to make them relevant.

None of these guys hold a candle to James Mungro

No there go the Chances of getting Fleener now.Was really hoping to pick him up in the second round. Anybody have any info on this guy?
Relax, this guy is just a camp body most likely.

Clutch kickers are needed in playoffs and super bowls.. realistically when is that suppose to happen?
You don't think it will help a young QB's confidence knowing that if he gets the team in field goal range that Vinny will more than likely slot it home? He will be special teams captain this year and even though he's a kicker he commands respect from a ton of people of people in the locker room. A proven commodity on a team with very few. He could very well be the difference in a handful of wins this coming year.
-
Because clutch kickers are hard to find and he will be a veteran presence in the locker room.

Thank Goodness tradition means something in this day in age. If we had hideous uniforms like Oregon or Maryland I might have had to trade my TV in for an old black and white one.
-
I still say he falls no further than 18 or so. I think he has a good shot to go at 9 or 11. Some teams are just enamored with workout warriors.
-
The guy is nothing but class. He came to my high school several times to talk to our gym class and he would stay and workout in the weight room with us after school in the offseason. Always one of my favorite Colts.
-
Carson Wiggs, Kicker from Purdue.
Just Kidding, probably an offensive lineman or small school receiver is my guess

This is a really interesting read by Kiper.

Sample:
In the second round (No. 34), I think the first goal would be to find maximum value at tight end or wide receiver. Coby Fleener might not be around after rising to the top of the tight end class, but if he is, it would obviously be a great fit. Luck reads tight ends so well, loves to use them, and Bruce Arians has always utilized good tight ends, or developed them. Still, if Fleener is gone and Kendall Wright or Stephen Hill are available, the Colts can add a WR just as easily. I think this spot might be a slight reach for Alshon Jeffery. The Colts could also look for great value on the defensive line here, and look for a guy like Jeffery later.Kendall Reyes or even Jerel Worthy could be tempting here as Indy looks for guys who can occupy and stuff the run, which was a huge problem in Indianapolis last season.
At No. 64 overall, if the Colts didn't take a pass-catching target earlier, they should get one here. Tight end Dwayne Allen could still be available, or perhaps a WR like Rueben Randlefalls this far. Brian Quick, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound WR out of Appalachian State that I really like, could also be in the mix here. If the Colts have taken a wideout, they should look for talent on the defensive line here. Brandon Thompson out of Clemson could be there, or maybe Jared Crick out of Nebraska if you want a guy more in the J.J. Watt mold, a 3-4 DE that can really penetrate. A NT option could be Alameda Ta'amu out of Washington. If Indy loves the value, a corner here might be a guy like Jayron Hosley, a really gifted and instinctive corner out of Virginia Tech.
Hate to agree with Mel Kiper but I think he's spot on. Which means for certain none of those guys will be picked by us.

Peyton wasnt hyped as much as this kid. I hope he can handle it. I know i wouldnt have been able to in my early 20's
Well in all fairness, ESPN wasn't the machine that is is today and the internet barely existed in 1998. If it had been the same Peyton would have probably been as hyped as Luck. Remember, he was said to have been the #1 pick in 1997 too but he went back for his senior year and the Jets took Keyshawn #1 instead.
-
As said earlier, I'd take him if he drops to us, don't wanna trade up for him. Rams took Lance Kendricks last year, would they take another TE so early when they need OLine help?
Depends, I think they go either Blackmon or OL in the first and I think they do the opposite in round 2. If they have him as BPA then sure, if they don't see a WR they like at 33.
I like Fleener a lot but I would have mixed feelings about trading up for him when we have so many needs.
-
oh no.......didnt see that! Didnt we trade with the Rams last year or something? How did they get in front of us?! There is no doubt we HAVE to trade up. And i dont see anyone wanting to trade for the Colts unless its the enemy Patriots with 2 first round picks.
Although i dont see them as a rival anymore since Peyton left....
We alternate every round with the Rams since we finished tied at 2-14.
-
I wouldn't call him better than Hester. No one in NFL history is as good a returner as Devin Hester. Adams is a more polished receiver coming out of school however.
-
Don't forget the Rams at 33 could use a weapon for Bradford. This doesn't take into account any teams that know we are targeting him at 34 who want to jump up and trade with one of those teams to grab Fleener before us. I honestly think if we want him, we'll have to jump up a few spots.
-
So Coach Pagano gave him the Jedi mind trick? I like him more every day.
-
His tricep does seem to have atrophied pretty dramatically. That's the funny thing with nerve damage though, you may regain the strength but never get the muscle tone and size back.
-
We drafted Edge in '99 as an offensive weapon for our 2nd year QB and I expect we will probably do the same if we can't get an impact receiver or back in this year's draft. Woods and Lattimore would be obvious choices. Jarvis Jones, Montgomery and Mingo from LSU would be solid pickups on D if we trade down for more picks.
When I was initially watching Woods I figured he was a AJ Green sized receiver but I was shocked when he was listed as around Reggie's size 6'1" 186lbs. Maybe his stature moves him out of the top five but he looks like a stud to me. Lattimore would probably have been a better prospect than Richardson if he hadn't blown out his knee. You hate to see stuff like that.
-
I have to be realistic here and with new faces in so many positions the Colts may be in the running for that title.
Unless things click real quick it could be a long season for Indianapolis next year.....or they could be the surprise team of the league.
If that's the case then we can set ourselves up nicely for a trade like the Rams got and grab Robert Woods or Lattimore and then stack the defense.

Nice draft I would be happy with this. I would prefer Baptiste or Chapman over Hicks. Mel Kiper thinks Jenkins will be taken early in the second round but I like him a ton. Count me in the group that has a man-crush on Coby Fleener as well.
