  1. I would like to see us build a bad-* DLine like NOW.  If I could peg my dream off-season for the Colts, it would look like this:  We draft either Derrick Brown or Javon Kinlaw.  We sign Chris Jones and Erik Armstead in FA.  This would give us a starting front 4 of Houston, (Brown or Kinlaw), Jones, and Armstead.  Not too shabby there.  On top of that, I draft a CB with one of the round 2 picks and a WR with the other, then sign another in FA (maybe just re-sign Funchess?).  This defense would be HARD to deal with, and if we end up stuck with Jacoby again, at least we could make it a little easier on him without having to air it out so much.  Our running game is good.  Our defensive front 7 would be outstanding.  We might give up a little in the passing game depending on who we bring in at CB and IF the opposing QB has any time to throw.  But I think they would be hard to score on in the red zone.  And I don't mind winning games 17-13.

I know I know.  I'm crazy and it'll never happen.  But a man can wish.

  2. I can understand the no QB thing as this class as a whole is underwhelming, but no WR until round 6 and we are DESPERATE to find a Robin to our Batman?  I like the fact that you focused heavily on the lines though, THAT I will support!  Of course we may find a WR in FA (Cooper?).  So perhaps this draft may look a little better after FA is over.

  3. I have ALWAYS thought that accuracy, instinct, and pocket awareness were the best traits I look for in a QB.  Remember, although his arm wasn't exactly "weak", Peyton's arm strength probably wasn't in the upper echelon on the NFL.  But Peyton was SO much smarter, he could anticipate,  he could throw WR's open, and he was pretty accurate.  And once he settled in, he stopped turning the ball over so much.  I would take a QB like that over a guy who can just throw it through a wall but doesn't do those other things as well.

If we can find a guy like that whether that be in the draft or in FA, I'm all for it, no matter what his name is.

  4. I did not get to watch the Senior Bowl but I did look at the stat lines.  Was Gordon that good or was it just circumstances?  Is there anything anyone saw in Love or Herbert that would make them CLEARLY better than Gordon, whom may be had in round 2-3?  THAT to me is the most important question in the draft for the Colts.  Of course, this is all assuming that one of those top 4 QB's is even there at #13 because I don't see Ballard moving up to get any of those guys.

It could have nothing to do with his medicals. Maybe teams are impressed enough with Love or Herbert that they just decide it’s to big of a risk. I don’t think he has to be able to play in 2020. Miami has indicated they are bringing Fitzpatrick back.

The biggest thing for me with TUA is what are the chances arthritis grows in that hip and cuts his career really short. Also he has had so many injuries which usually carries over to the pros. I hope for his sake and the colts sake he gets to work out before the draft and looks good.

Yeah I think injuries are going to be the main thing with him.  And I have NO IDEA what the Colts are thinking, let alone Miami, Carolina, etc.  But I would think that if this whole injury thing had never happened to him, coming from the program he came from and playing at the level that he was, he would be a top 5 guy no doubt.

I could be wrong, and often am (ask my wife), but that's my thinking.

  6. I hope we go DT first BUT, and this is big, you go with your highest rated players.  I know people don't like to hear that but it's true.  You simply can't just draft for need.  That has killed a lot of GM's and let a lot of fans down.

With that said, I have Jeudy as my non-professional, purely fandom #6 best rated prospect in this entire class, regardless of position.  I think he's that good.  So getting him at #13 would be, to me, a coup.  And I think he will produce immediately at the next level.

And to those saying why draft a WR when you don't have a QB that can get it to him?  You are thinking too narrowly.  You don't draft for ONE year.  You BUILD a team the best way you can.  And you do that by taking the best players available when they come to you.  Whether you get the QB you need this year, next year, or 2 years down the road is irrelevant to drafting the BPA in THIS draft.  Every year is different, FA factors in, trades happen with much more regularity now, and you never know what will happen with injuries, etc.  This does not even take into account draft day trades and pick trades which are common now too.  I mean was ANYBODY thinking Luck would retire prior to this season?  Of course not.  Sure, if the QB you want is there, you take him.  But if he isn't, you take someone else who will help you just the same at another position and wait for your QB in another situation.

I think 4 will go within the top 13. I think Love and Herbert will be the other two.

Wont it be interesting if teams pass on TUA and he is the one to fall to the colts. Would ballard take the risk.

I think that really depends on a couple of things:  1) Why is he falling?  It would most LIKELY be due to a poor injury prognosis, meaning he might not be available until 2021.  I mean his tape is already out there, he's not participating in any bowl games or the Combine, so what you have on him is what you have now.  Could Ballard be that patient?  Well, that all depends on 2) Sign a veteran FA for 2020 that Tua could learn and grow under while he is recovering, then let him take the reigns in 2021.  However, if Tua's health report comes back more positive than expected and it looks like he plays in 2020, then I HIGHLY doubt he gets past Carolina, and probably goes to Miami.

But if the former plays out, would Ballard want to do that?  THAT is the $200M question.  But I would be OK with it.

I totally agree.  Ballard is 22-28 as a GM.  Granted he has had a lame duck coach and a QB that retired. Well, that’s the way it has fell and not his fault but most certainly his responsibility to correct. If the Colts aren’t sniffing the playoffs in 2yrs there will be a major call for change. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for a player or GM with loads of potential.  If they never fulfill the expectations then it may be time to move one regardless of what they faced.  I hope Ballard will get us back on track bc he sure seems right for the job.

I mean this with all respect, but you do realize his generational QB who was supposed to lead the franchise for the next 10 years decided to up and retire at the ripe old age of 29, right?  And that this same QB missed ALL of his 1st year on the job and he was forced to find a sub at the last minute, right?  This is obviously a QB driven league.  He's been behind the 8-ball in that department and has done a decent job considering the circumstances.  This doesn't even factor in being left at the altar at the 11th hour on the coaching search and STILL finding a guy like Reich to lead this team.  And what he has done with the rest of the roster is pretty good as well.  I don't think he should be on the hot seat at all.

    here's how I view it.

If he's the top rated player left on your board and you view him as elite.  You take him.

Other than qb(if you already have an elite one). You don't pass up what you view as elite talent just because you already have one elite player at that position already.

This.  BPA no matter what position.
