I am thinking of who is in our way to get to a SB. You got Watson and Mahomes. Who knows but maybe Burrow turns the Bengals around. Miami is about to get TUA and the chargers Herbert. Until I see that Fromm can be more then a game manager I will pass.

Some things that were good in that interview was he talked about how he is going to be working on throwing off platform. Talked about working on his twitch.

He is a great leader I just need to see more.

I would definitely add the reigning MVP and the Ravens in that list.

So, I ask again, if the Colts had a chance of getting Burrows, would you select him? Not if the price was right. Would you select Burrow?

I'll bite.  Yeah, I would, again, if he just happened to fall.  I do think he'll be at least better than JB and MUCH cheaper for a few years.  But I wouldn't give up the farm for him for sure.

I think the fact that he now has a ring might actually help against your point. Now he makes sure he gets paid. He can still go somewhere that wants to win, but now gets to make big-time money. But kind of to reiterate what you said, it really depends on KCs offer and their plans with him in general. I'm 65-35 leaning towards him staying in KC, but I'd love to have him. And the other Jones too!

Yeah I guess it depends on what is more important to him.  Of course he comes out and says he wants to stay in KC for life, but we will find out how he really feels when other teams start throwing crazy money at him, which is likely.

  4. Carr certainly is no Mahomes.  Let's get that out of the way first.  But then who is?  Carr would instantly make the Colts contenders again because CB has built the roster the right way in fixing the OL, and now has the draft capital and cap space to take care of the other side of the line.  And THAT is how you build the foundation of a Superbowl team.  Add a QB that averages about 70% in completion percentage yet can go deep when needed with good touch on the ball?  Yeah, you're going to contend.  The only questions I have is how much is it going to take and how healthy is Carr?  Other than that, I'm IN and would rather they get a still young guy like Carr than take a RISK on a college guy who may or may not be anything in the NFL from a weak QB class.

  5. I just don't think it will happen.  Why would he want to come here when he could potentially play for another title?  He's got the best QB in the league, likely the next Brady.  They are going to contend for the next decade with Mahomes.  He is still going to make a lot of money in KC.  I just don't see him leaving.  But I would welcome him with open arms even if we got Kinlaw (or Brown) in the draft.

Ballard needs to stay the course. Dont reach for a QB, and pick BPA. Kinlaw would change this defense around. CeeDee Lamb would be an elite WR. People here still want an elite QB because they fear what little a QB like JB cant do, but imo Ballard needs to stay the course and pick BPA because if he doesn't things can go down hill rather quickly. You reach for a QB and he doesn't pan out? Now your defense still needs play makers and they arent stopping anyone and the grumbling begins because he decided to reach for a QB that didnt deserve to be picked where he was taken and this team is in jeopardy. Is that what everyone here wants?

Kinlaw in round one (Nelson turned this whole offense around), then with one of your 2nd round picks, you take QB. Just look at Tannehil for TN, or JG in SF. Those guys were good enough to make it to the Championship and Super Bowl because they had a great surrounding cast.

Oline and Dline are the biggest needs on any team. If we can have a top 5 oline and dline this team is going places without the need for a top 5 QB. Top 10? Yea. Top 5 no. And I'd wager top 10 is a lot easier to find.

Ballards biggest challenge is not folding to the pressure of reaching for a QB.

Bingo!  The only thing I'd add is that IF some miracle happens and Brown slides to 13, RUN to the podium.  Otherwise Kinlaw would be a terrific second choice.  I think both are top 8 talents in this draft.  BPA all the way!

I remember when Polian traded away Marshall Faulk for a 2 and 5.  I was furious.  At least, I hoped, the Colts would draft Ricky Williams and make up for it.

With the 4th pick in the 1999 NFL draft, the Indianapolis Colts select... Edgerrin James, Running Back, Miami.

WHAT?!?!??  Who???  I'd never heard of him.  I swore off the Colts, and immediately began rooting for the Bucs.  When Edge won the rushing title his rookie year, I had to shrug and say "What do I know, anyway?"

And immediately bought an Edgerrin James #32 jersey.

    I still own it.

We were apparently rowing the same boat.  I was * we passed on RW.  But what the hell do I know?

Congrats Edge!  Next year the rest of the "quads" join you in Manning and Wayne.

I may have to take my son to Canton in August!

  8. I don't want the Colts to move up and lose valuable draft capital.  But if they DID, I wouldn't want them moving up to get a QB.  I don't see Cincy dealing away the rights to Burrow and he's the only one I'd consider moving up for, and even at that he did it (albeit one of the best college QB years ever) for one season.

No, the guy I'd consider moving up to get is Brown.  The more I watch him, the more I like him.  He can play the interior in any scheme.  Single-handedly almost helped Auburn upset LSU.  LSU's offense was held to 23 points that game and Brown was a MAJOR force.  He's as close to NFL plug-and-play as anybody in this draft IMHO, and I think he'll at the VERY least have a great NFL career.  Here's a scouting report on him from thedraftnetwork.com but I'm just going to leave the link here because there are 5 different scouting analysts reports on that page:

  9. None.  Last one I had was home Edge jersey.  I had an away Freeney too.  Gave'em to some youngins after they left the game.  Too many players move on and then I don't want their jersey anymore.  In fact, I'd rather have one of a guy like Luck that walked away from the game than a guy who went to another team.  But IF I had to pick one to get today, I would no doubt take a Nelson jersey.  I tend to wear more just Colts gear.

It's unrealistic. That is a lot of money to throw at players when we have never been high spenders in FA

Well, again it's what I would LIKE to see them do.  Besides, its only a couple of high dollar FA's really.  They got all that money and could if they wanted.  But you're right, history is not on my side in this one.  But it would be sweet!

Its not the height, its the lack of body mass.  All of those mentioned were just naturally heavier.

Even Jake Fromm has more mass.  He's listed at 6'2" but looks shorter, in part, because he's stocky. Listed at 220 lbs.

So let's get him to the buffet table, get him with the right strength training coach, and get him up 20 lbs or so.  It really wouldn't be that hard and MIGHT even increase his arm strength.

That's fair and accurate data, 26.....and I get that we're not in a good place at QB.... but my problem is this....

Either in free agency or in the draft....we need to address the weakness we have at the DT position.

This is a LOT like the decades-long revolving door we had at OG before Ballard selected Nelson. Our identity all those years at both the interior O-line and D-line was characterized as "soft".

Seriously.... is there a more degrading image to have as an NFL team?

And all the while.... for 20 years.... we had Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck who all too often were spectators on the sidelines because our defense couldn't get them the ball back.

I'm far from an expert at Xs and Os.... and the finer points of scouting QBs.... but none of these 2020 QB prospects are said to have the Football IQ and field generalship of Manning or Luck. With the possible exception of Joe Burrow.... it appears they're all to one degree or another being pumped well ahead of their true draft day value. But only time will bear that out.

Either way we have had a deficiency at DT.... key to a great Front 7.... that's been exploited for far too long, and even with two QBs of the highest pedigree and plenty of offense.... only netted 1 Super Bowl.

I prefer Brown or Kinlaw with the #13 pick.

This is my problem with this pick as well.  It's NOT that I don't think we need a QB, we DO.  My problem is I don't see any of the QB's not named Joe Burrow as 1st round worthy.  People say you pick a QB anyway because it's a huge need.  I say poppycock!  Peeshaw!  You pick a player you need in the round they SHOULD be picked in.  You don't elevate a QB just because he's a QB.  If Joe Burrow isn't there at 13, there isn't another QB I would take that high in this draft.  So I'm with you, I'd LOVE to get Brown, and I'd be pretty happy to get Kinlaw at 15.  DT is ALSO a huge need on this team and one of those two would be TRUE draft value at 13.

  13. I'm not worried about his size.  Several smaller modern day QB's have had success such as Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Mike Vick, Brett Favre, etc.  All were 6-2 or shorter.  MUCH shorter in the case of Wilson and Brees.  It's about accuracy, reading defenses, throwing WR's open, anticipating routes, audibling out of bad situations, sliding protections, escaping the rush, etc.  Can he do that, or most of those things well.  THAT is what I want to know.
