  1. Whew,..Thank god this is finally out.  Now that it Matters about the AFC Championship game, I still think we got trounced enough to say it would not have mattered, (final score maybe but not end result).

I am just glad it is finally out because I got SOOOOO sick of Pats fans blowing up swearing that the Wells report was actually about how the Colts deflated the balls and was trying to blame the Pats. (which I knew was a fallacy, but true arguing that with a Pat fan...)

  2. Gronkowski is 100% worth a first round pick. He's one of the biggest mismatches in all of football. 9 out of 10 times a first round pick won't net you a player with half the value of Gronk.

You have your opinion, and I'll respect that, but think on this:

Gronk's style of play mirrors what Jeremy Shockey was.

And yes Shockey was a beast,..for a time.  His style of play made him Injury ridden and limited his long term usage.  I fully expect the same outcome with Gronk. (we started to see the repercussions of that style of play on his health last year)

  3. What? lol. You can pretty much guarantee he will not even be close to a 1000 yard season any time soon. Not with AJ, TY Hilton, and Moncrief ahead of him on the depth chart.

I agree with everything except Moncrief being higher on the list.  I think it is T.Y , A.J, Dorsett, Moncrief now.

But yeah, I don't expect him to have a 1k yard season either..but maybe 20+yards per catch.  With the power running game looking intact, I think they will use it to make the playaction that much more deadly with all the speed.

  4. Flat out right now, Indy's offense is good enough as it is right now.  Even the o-line if it stay healthy. (which was their problem last year.)

Out pass defense is very good.  Especially with the two secondary draft picks coming in and being taught Pagano pass defense.

Our front 7 was where the lack of production came from.  Mathis back, and have Cole on the other side will help with pass rush.  The 3 down linemen is the ? mark.  Yes, i am a BIG Anderson fan, and think he will become a stud.  I also think Langford will be good as well considering he plays better in a 3-4 rather than a 4-3 like when he was with the Rams (which is a major reason they let him go,)  Art Jones is another decent guy.

The real issue for me this year is NT and MLB.  Would be nice to see Kerr step up.  I heard he is working hard to improve his 3 down capabilities, which is good.  Jackson is a good run stopper, but cannot cover very well, and Freeman is the opposite. (though injuries hampered his performance last year.)

I truly think our defense will be fine next year.

(BTW, Brown, the guy whom everyone was harping over is a DT/DE, not an NT, and I personally think we got a better person for that position for our scheme and him in Anderson.)

  5. 2006 Colts beat NE's MUCH better defense with their high powered offence due to 1 thing,....pressure.  our corners were not nearly as good as the ones we have now, but we had a pass rush.  Getting pressure on Brady ended up with us getting 3 sacks, and making him make fast decisions and throw 3 picks.  Our offense played hard nosed.  Ran the ball, and play action after it was set up.

We have potentially a good pass rush coming from the outside this year in Mathis and Cole, and Anderson is known(atleast in college) to be able to get penetration and get to the QB.

With our new RB's we got this year, hard nosed running is the exact term for what we can/will do.  And the outside speed is perfect for the playaction off of that running style.

The only real question is will the o-line stay healthy enough to get in sync with each other next year and be able to play cohesively? (stopping the run IMO is more of a 'being efficient with your assignments and  making the tackle' problem)

  6. NO TE is worth a #1 pick,..not jimmy graham, not Gronkowski.  Seattle giving up their best center AND #1  pick was horrible trade for them IMO.  And a boon for NO.

Now that being said, an experienced veteran center is worth a trade for a good TE.  Or even a young talented inexperienced WR.  Those we have a plethora of. (even though many would not see trading a potential future star WR like say Carter for a center as very sexy).

  7. Elite offense.  But good defense.

You win games by scoring points.  Granted an elite defense can completely take a certain phase of an offence out of a game, But an elite offence can't be stopped on every down.  If every position of your offense clicks, it is impossible to stop.  Take Seattle/Colts game when Luck and Wilson were rookies.  Seattles pass defense was considered 'elite'. They pretty much shut our offence down most of the game.  But Luck and T.Y. 'clicked' just 2 times, and that was all it took.

But, you have to be good in defense, Just an elite offense cannot get you very far when teams with Elite defenses also have good offenses.  If you cannot stop the other team once in a while, you allow them to control a game, (aka pats).

  8. Sure all that could happen but I was looking at this more from a macro level. Colts pick WR even though defense was a bigger need. Pats take a defender the Colts could have had. So you have the Colts/Pats rivalry now sparked by two players separated by three picks from the two teams that just played for the AFCCG. I would expect to see both players getting playing time next year which should make the comparison oodles of fun for the networks and talking heads ...

First off Colt did not even want Brown...they wanted Anderson,..whom they got in the 3rd round and he had a better year last year than Brown did.

Secondly, on having two T.Y.  type players, Who would not want two speedsters with hands that can stretch the field  in the game at the same time? Name a team that would NOT want that?.... Most teams have 1 good corner (if any) that can cover that man to man...not two.

  9. If we need that many rookies to come in here and supplant veterans and start, we aren't Super Bowl material even with their help.  And rookies make huge mistakes, usually in crunch time because of inexperience.    I think our draft and FA acquisitions this year is fine, and addressed most ever area.  We just need the players we have already drafted last couple years and the new inductees to step up best they can and at  least maintain level of play when a vet needs a rest or gets knicked up.

Agree on younger and Vets stepping up.  Less IR's would be nice too.  But I think Alot of these guys we got are going to contribute next year through rotation.  Especially the D-line and the RB.  I just think long term...this was a great draft.

  10. I'm sure Grigson can find room for Watt if the Texans don't want him...  Put his locker right beside Dorsett's...;-)

Lol, in an article about the Colts getting A.J. Texan fans were blowing up about how he lost a step and they were just moving on and we can have  their "scraps".  I pointed out to them that Watt had 5 less tackles last year than the year before and he must have lost a step also, and that we'd gladly take those scraps as well...lol

  11.

Once again, a difference of opinion, with hypothetical situations!  It's like asking 2 different color blind people what color the sky is?  They will argue til death, but they both will be correct in their own perception

I am Color blind, and I will tell you the sky is blue on a clear day because that is general consensus.  If a person knows nothing about something you take the odds favorite, or trust the person whom does.

  12. But even if Brown plays like a beast at NE, it does not mean he would be that way for Indy.  To me, I still think Grigson figured Anderson would be more of an impact playing in our scheme instead of Brown.  And I believe he was not even interested in goldman or phillips because we have 2 guys already with similar build and athletic ability.  Why keep adding the same broth to a soup that is already overflowing?

The time to do this is with speed playmakers and pass rushers. And this is a general consensus around the league.

  13. I am not worried about the o-line nearly as much as other people.  Yes Luck has been harassed over the years.  But there is 2 reasons for that.

#1 : Injuries.  These kept the o-line out of sync, and allowed defenses to penetrate easier because players were not used to the guy next to them, or was not used to playing the position they were in because they were subbing there.

#2 : And this may be more poignant.  Our run game was not very good.  Every team that went up against the Colts knew this.  No-one was afraid of us running it down their throats.  They knew we were going to throw it.  Thus they planned for this.  Hard to protect a guy when there is not surprise to what is coming.  A solid running game will protect Andrew Luck more than any single o-line pick.  Having the stable of runners we now have is a good thing.  We do not have a rb anymore that teams are going to look at and go: "well, he is good for 2-3 yards...maybe."  (not going to name names...lol)

Granted I hope like everyone else that Grigson and Pagano's gamble on Gos is not going to turn out like another Bob sanders, or worse...the name I did not mention.....

  14. I am beginning to think Henry Anderson was on TOP of Colts DL board, And maybe so was Geathers.

After watching Lots and Lots of Youtube game film on both of these guys, and then looking at stats for both this might just be the case.

Geathers plays with a style we NEED, he is a little out of control at times, but some coaching can fix that, and that is what Pagano does best.  They may figure he'll be better than all the other Safeties in the long run for us.

Henry though is a more Immediate impact.  His stats last season was BETTER than Brown's.  Plus he played a scheme the same as the one Colts play.  He also played each position on the D-line every game switching around constantly with his fellow d-linemen to create confusion.  He has a bigger motor than any of the D-linemen that was ranked higher than him.

So if these two were on top of the board, then getting Dorsett as the first pick would be absolute genius if the two previously mentioned pans out.

The only real question is the O-line, since injury and continuity due to that hampered progression last year.  I hope this is not the case next year and the O-line can sync with each other and be able to play more as a single unit.

  15. I will say it, Henry Anderson could be our best D-lineman.  He is going to put 10-15 lbs on, and be around 6'6" and 310ish.  He has BETTER 2014 stats than Malcom Brown!  He learned under a defensive scheme similar to ours.  He played the entire D-line at Stanford, rotating to different spots throughout each game. I swear Grigson did not take Brown in the first thinking this guy was going to be our D-line stud.

  16. It is not like we did not address the D-line, we just did it in later rounds.  And Henry Anderson (whom i love) played the entire d-line in Stanford, being moved around on a defensive scheme similar to ours.  Grigson says he'll put on an additional 10-15lbs so he'll be even more powerful.  Grigson just figured he could get a guy of equal value to Brown for less who already knows our system and won't have a problem changing over.  They drafted with a plan, not just take who is the best person now and hope for another later.

oh and just to put stats on the board:

                               2014 totals for each player

                                 tot      solo   asst     sack

    Malcom brown :     69       38     31       6.5

    Henry Anderson:   66       40     26      8.5

And we got Anderson in the 3rd round..........

  17. That's heresy....Dorsett is the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison......combined!!!

    LOL sarcastic much?

If Dorsett just takes the double teams off T.Y. and makes defenses play straight up with our offense, id be happy.

oh and just to put stats on the board:

                               2014 totals for each player

                                 tot      solo   asst     sack

    Malcom brown :     69       38     31       6.5

    Henry Anderson:   66       40     26      8.5

And we got Anderson in the 3rd round.....................

  18. I think Denzelle Goode is one of the most intriguing players we drafted. Doesn't mean he'll make the team, but he is interesting for a 7th round pick.

Colts had known about this guy for a few months prior to the draft.  The had obviously made up their mind knowing they wanted to get him and probably thought no-one else knew jack about him. (and they were right!...lol)So they knew they could wait till their last pick for him.  The  Kids probably better than a 7th round pick, But was on an Island and Was having trouble being seen.  (Even with his size...lol >.<  I look forward myself to learning more about the guy.

  19. What Michael Silver said he thought, and what he did when he heard the colts got Dorsett.:

"Late Thursday night, Grigson chose Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett with the 29th overall selection, provoking an immediate chorus of ridicule and dissent on social media, blogs and other platforms. Critics complained that the swift, diminutive Dorsett merely gave the Colts a second helping of T.Y.Hilton, their leading receiver from 2014, and that the pick had done nothing to shore up Indy's biggest weaknesses, such as a defensive unit that surrendered 45 points to the Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

Since I tend to be a strong advocate of Grigson's body of work, I started texting some of the talent evaluators around the league I respect most to solicit their opinions, and also asked some people in the Jags' war room(where I was at the time).

The replies I got were overwhelmingly positive about the pick: "Grand slam!!!" was one scout's response.

I also texted Colts owner Jim Irsay, the man whose opinion of Grigson's pick will ultimately matter most. Granted, Irsay wasn't likely to express displeasure in the wake of the selection, but he could easily have chosen not to reply, or to say something generic and let the situation play out for itself.

Instead, he sent a voice memo, which I received well after midnight, after getting off the phone with the NFL's after-hours travel department to book a flight to St. Louis. The message lasted more than a minute, and the excitement in Irsay's voice was palpable and infectious. He said a lot of glowing things about Dorsett, and he insisted that the pick had been an easy one. Seven words in particular stayed with me."        "We let the board talk to us."
