What red flagged player has he selected in Indy?  I know about the KC stuff, but he wasn't making the final decisions there so I don't care about that.

Collins has been suspended multiple times for failing drug screens. That one tops my mind.  And he was signed,..he was on the 53 man roster for the last game.

  2. Sport Illustrated has posted their end of the year awards.  Take a real close look.  They have Darius Leonard at 3rd for defensive rookie of the year.  But he is the top rookie listed in the Defensive player of the year award.  They make no since.

?  Ok?  I'm just glad Ballard is in charge instead of a certain someone that keeps telling us all who Ballard needs to sign.

oh, who is this certain someone? I haven't paid that close attention. I've not went on a "We NEED to sign" anyone in particular myself. I've made my opinion that we do need a WR and elite pass rusher.  Not necessarily F.A. though.  Even though this year WR draft stock is pretty bad IMO.  I'm sure Ballard will find the appropriate people to fill those positions.

I will say this though. For everyone who thinks Ballard won't sign a big name, or take a chance on character, They really don't know Ballard, or have only heard what they want to. Ballard has spent big in F.A. before, and taken highly red flagged people.  And he never said he wouldn't again.  He did say he wanted to build a locker room first. He has definitely built his locker room. Whom he gets in F.A. i think will surprise a lot of people.  Probably including myself.

Especially since he has to spend a lot of the cap this year (happy new year). resigning and extensions won't come close to the bare minimum he has to spend.  I asked Over the Cap to make sure not too long ago.

    haha  That was my point.

Thing is, this is forums, not a press conference.  Forums are about fans talking about their team, what they would do, how they feel, ect.  Otherwise these threads would be called "Fan Q & A with Coaches, G.M.'s and owner."

(OOOh, I might have just hit a gold mine idea!..lol)

Lawrence, just sit down and wait for the knowledgeable fans here to explain what all is incorrect about this post. Then you will have the next thing to right about, not that interesting, but meh.

I didn't pull those numbers out of thin air. I asked Jason, at Over the Cap. Resigning players will only will eat up so much money.  They still will have enormous amounts that they MUST spend to reach the bare minimum spending requirement set by the NFL owners and players board.

Lol. Same posters want every available FA, regardless of the cost/consequences. Thank the universe that Ballard does not operate that way.

I've been against every other trade and big name F.A. acquisition posted on forums.  And I just brought this up saying I think we need another elite WR, over an elite RB.  I am fairly sure that is how my Original post read.  I did say if not Brown then someone like OBJ, Julio, or even Evans.  I get the pause on Brown, he does have red flags.  But to me OBJ is passionate, yes, but nothing that is detrimental. He's never thrown any of his team mates under the bus, good team player.  Heck T.Y. has thrown an entire position group under the bus on national television.  Does that mean you want him off the team?

LOL. T.Y. is a diva.  You may forgive or not realize because you're a Colts fan..But he does a lot of diva stuff.  Including calling out the o-line last year on national media.

Yep.... as great as Brown and OBJ when they’re not busy screwing up their non-playoff team’s chemistry.... I’d rather see Ballard shore up our 53 man roster with proven quality depth players before he sinks the required spend into high-dollar free agents.

For instance... I’d rather have two “Dontrell Inman level” signees at WR than either of those two schmucks.... to rotate alongside with TY and the TEs.

Reich and Andrew are proving that the short and mid-range passing game can work when paired with a good physical run game.... and the ball control aspect does wonders for the defense. We don’t need AB or OBJ for that.... and we certainly don’t need their bellyaching.

If we’re gonna spend big FA $$ or trade capital on someone.... let it be for a top flight pass rusher.

What has OBJ done that T.Y. hasn't?  Seriously.  Every WR asks for the ball more. But OBJ is not some bad personality some people are making him out to be. He's actually one of the most team oriented big name players in the NFL.  As a matter of fact, i'd say T.Y. has done/said more things that are considered non-team friendly than OBJ.

Brown is not the player that will take us to the SB. I hope Ballard is aware of potential lockeroom cancers. The Steelers look like one of the worst locker rooms in the league. I dont want that here. There is plenty of money this off season and I don't see Ballard making a big splash unless the guys character is above average.

Lets look at other WRs. The draft. Deon Cain. Look out our current t lines. Imagine another draft of OL, DL, LBr. FA for high character skill positions.

    Unstoppable.

There is rumors that even though OBJ just signed a long contract extension, averaging 14.5 mil/year, he might be up for a possible trade.  There are no Wr's in the draft anyone would call an elite prospect.  And not any Wr's in F.A. that are great.  But OBJ,...at 14.5 /year?..I'd offer Brissett and a 1st for him,..all day every day.  Especially since we have the Jets 2nd, and it would be like 5-7 picks after our first. That would basically be trading a late first, and 2nd-3rd rounder, for a proven blue chip WR, that practices hard and plays harder.

  9. I'm not a nay-sayer, but I will admit I was one of most who was not expecting a winning season,..let alone a playoff birth.  I never thought the 2 win total had any merit. i figured 8-8.  But then, really, how many of you when the season started expected us to have a RB with the 7th YPG?  A top 10 scoring defense? The 4th best scoring offense?  The BEST O-line in the entire NFL?  There are a lot less holes on this team than we ALL foresaw.  I'm glad of that.

I think you represent Ballard’s thinking well.  He has stated many times that  locker room is everything and that he wants to use his money resigning our own players.  He also said when he brings in a free agent, he will be careful because they have to be a good fit.  Throwing top $$$ at an aging elite WR doesn’t line up with anything he’s ever said or done.

I did say if not Bell, there was others. He didn't say he'd never bring in people with character.  He said he wanted to build a locker room that could handle situations like that.  As they did in KC before bringing in a personality.  It is Ballard's call.  But I don't think he'll waste $$ to save $$.  That's just counter-productive. I'm sure he'll find the right people for the organization.

    No, no, no, no, NO!

We need to keep doing exactly what we are doing, and allow Andrew Luck to spread the ball around to a good cast of skill players.

I would rather see them to pursue somebody like Cole Beasley to play the slot next year, but I dont want them pouring 15 million dollars a year into any offensive skill player not named Andrew Luck. With him and this OL, we dont need that. We need to make sure we can keep Braden Smith, Ryan Kelly and Quenton Nelson together, long term.

We need to pursue pass rushers and corners for our defense. We are just a few key aquisitions from having an elite QB, OL and defense with a very good coaching staff. Dont screw it up by bringing in over hyped prim a donnas. This team is not about that and we dont need it.

You realize if we brought back every player next year on the team now, we would have to spend 92 mil to reach the cap spend minimum?  That is how much $$ we HAVE to spend next year.  That's not how much cap space we have...that's over $120 mil.  Ballard has to drop money on a few big players or the team will end up being fined by the NFL.  He's not going to be able to blow $90+ mil resigning our players next year.  Just saying.

We do need another WR.  An elite receiver like Brown would do wonders for our offense.  So would another elite WR like OBJ.  In fact Pat Leonard, of the NY Daily news, published an article a few days ago suggesting the Giants trade OBJ.   Florio picked up on it as well.  OBJ also signed a major contract last year but his remaining contract is 5 yr's 75m.  It averages out around 14.8m a year.  Pretty reasonable for a star WR.  I don't know how to post it but it's a great read and apparently not out of the question for the Giants.  They were listening to offers last year and at the trade deadline this year.  Just not the right offer.  Now we are in a new offseason.  I don't know what it would take maybe Brissett and a high pick?  It pays to keep an open mind on these players.  We know what a change of scenery can do for a player.  Escape the big lights or the drama on a Steelers team and things might just work out.

OMG, I would give the Giants Brissett and a 2nd (maybe even our 1st since it will be late 20's) for OBJ.

  13. For all the talk of Bell, It was reported Antonio Brown was angry with Big Ben this past week.  And he did not play in the game against the Bengals because of it.  I know it's not going to happen because Brown just signed a huge 4 year deal last year, BUT OMG, could you even imagine Antonio Brown on the Colts?

To have T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron, Jack Doyle, Antonio Brown, Marlon Mack, Andrew Luck, and THIS offensive line next year.  This would be the #1 offense in the NFL, and there is not 1 single player you could double up on, and have any thought to handling the others.

This is why I say having another impact receiver would do this offense wonders. You absolutely could not stack the box, even with us having 2 TE's on the field, because of the receiving threats.  And you could not go nickel packages all the time because this o-line and Mack would train wreck you.

Let's not say Brown,...but an impact receiver such as him, or Julio, or OBJ, or even Evans on this team, and you were an opposing DC having to prepare for this team. How would you?

And he tends to go down with minimal contact.

It's all true. I like him, especially in the open field or around the corner, but he has some flaws.

He does ..sometimes.  He goes through multiple arm tackles well.  But a body on him drops him every time.  But that is because of his style of running.  He is patient, waiting for the blocking to fully develop.  Then when the last block gets to his position, he turns on some sort of after burners and burst's into that designed hole. He goes north and south gaining as much as possible straight line with his speed.  I am of the opinion he does need to have a bit more  close area awareness though.  There are times only one guy is left to tackle him in front of him, and he just lowers his head instead of try to shake and bake.  I think he does this because he doesn't know if there is people around him that will tackle him if he slows down.

He does fall forward every time though. hid yard after contact is 4th in the NFL.  Like I said, he breaks arm tackles and falls forward.

This game is going to depend a lot on who plays, and who don't.  Both teams have Key players that are injured.
Tennessee: Big questions are Marcus Mariota's elbow & Brian Orakpo's elbow. ( Jack Conklin, Logan Ryan and Jurrell Casey have been put on IR since last we met them.)

Indianapolis Colts on the other hand have multiple injuries to watch, Ryan Kelly with a neck injury, Mark Glowinski still trying to come back from an ankle, Anthony Walker Jr. shoulder, and Eric Ebron with the Concussion.

I am of the personal opinion that there is not a lot of drop off from Mariota to Blaine Gabbert.   Mariota is more mobile, but I personally believe Gabbert is more accurate as a pocket passer.  Either way, Indy's pass pressure needs to be more effective in this game than the Giants game.  This was quite effective the first meeting accumulating in 5 sacks.  It may have just caught the Titans coaching off guard however, because this was the first week Eberflus had shown much aggression in that department.  He'll need to disguise these blitzes to make them work well this go around.

Derrick Henry has been A stud the past few weeks running the football.  But as I watch the film,  he is mostly power, and relies on his O-line to provide holes for him to hit.  He doesn't do much juking, and finesse.  He just powers his way forward, and tries to stiff-arm his way past defenders. The swarming mentality of Indy's defense will be big here.  No-one can let up, even if they are half way across the field.  Henry is not the fastest back, and people like Leonard and Walker can still make plays due to their speed in closing.  I'm a firm believer that run blitzes here can cause havoc with Henry.  He does not change direction well, and if these blitzes can get someone in the backfield during the time of the hand-off, tackles for loss will be the prevalent theme of the day.

Continue the zone pass defense and make whoever is at QB beat you with underneath throws.  No big plays to guys like Corey Davis.  Make them catch underneath and earn every yard.  Sooner or later we will have to hope mistakes are made, or our pass rush effects the throws.  Neither QB is talented enough to make 35-40 accurate throws in the same game.  turnovers will be available, the Colts will have to be ready to capitalize.

Something of note:  The last time Colts faced Tennessee, the Titans Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees left the game in the first quarter to go to the hospital where he stayed overnight.

The Colts offense is going to depend greatly on who is available.  If Kelly and Glowinski start, we pound the ball early like we did against the Cowboys.  Effective running with our full O-line is a must.  Adore Jackson and Malcolm Butler love to jump routes if they see a 'routine' crop up.  Early in the game, if when we do pass, we use short curls and slants, this will set up Butler and Jackson for the second half of the game.  That is when you use double moves with T.Y. , Inman, and Rogers to take deep shots off the play action.

If one or the other O-lineman is not ready to go this Sunday, we still run the ball.  But maybe not lean on it as heavily as if we had both out there.  Set up screens with our Tackles sealing the edge to keep their linebackers from entering the fray.  Use Mack and Hines as play action decoys, then throw to them on out-route screens towards Inman and Pascal.  These WR's have shown excellent abilities to block out CB's.

Use any TE we have as blockers mostly for the first half.  So we can get our running game more of a chance. And keeping the linebackers up in front of the line and not out in coverage is a must.  Then use them in the second have as edge blockers on the screens, and when the opportunity presents itself, hit them on deep outs when the WR's are doing the double moves to go deep post.  Titans linebackers are strong,  good tacklers, but lack exceptional speed and coverage abilities overall.

If we get both our O-linemen back, I see us dominating this game offensively.  28+ points.  If not, 21-24.  Defensively a lot will depend on Walker's return and Eberflus' scheme. If Walker returns, I don't think they throw as well as the Giants did on us.  Walker has a great ability to recognize the offense, and make corrections in coverage.  If we can hold the Titans run game to under 100 yards, we hold them to under 14 points.
Otherwise, they will keep our offense off the field and wear our D down as the game rolls on.  Our speed and tackling in the front 7 however has been our strongest asset in the run game, and I believe it will be effective once again.

Their offense scored 10 points..we held Henry under 100 yards, and I'd say i'm getting sick of making these calls, but nope...lol  Hopefully me not posting these on here anymore doesn't jinx my team.

  16. Yeah, i make sure I write something about the Colts during the week. every time I have done a game breakdown, save once, this year, they've won.  Needless to say i hadn't done any the first few weeks of the season.

Also, I don't wear ANYTHING resembling Colts attire during the game.  I'll wear it the days leading up to a game...but even if i go to a game, i won't wear colors.  Every time i do, they lose.

I know these superstitions are odd, and make no since, but i can't help it.  Being a former football player myself, It's ingrained in me >.<

  17. As for the OP, The chemistry has been quite good.  The players only meeting after the week 6 loss proves that.  They hold each other accountable, and when they do well, they have fun with each other.

It is so much nicer to see this team celebrating together in the end zone after a big play, than Luck on his knees, pounding the ground in frustration.

I only have a couple former employees that have good things to say about me. I have never fired anyone for unjust causes. They brought it all upon themselves but tend to focus on one particular incident, that put in a vacuum, makes them look wronged. Former employees hardly ever look objectively at their entire body of work to understand why it didn’t work out.  Good businesses don’t fire good employees.  They do fire bad employees that have good moments that our outweighed by the baggage that goes along with them.

Example: My brother was fired for the 3rd time in 2yrs from a job. After each one he had a story about how he was wronged and they let go their best fork truck driver, painter then plumber. He got mad whenever I told him businesses don’t fire their best employee especially when they supposedly became the best in a few months. Typical can’t recognize his own faults while over valuing his own worth.

But good wasn't fired. He asked for his release from Ballard after his incident with Guge.  And Ballard said ok.

  19. 6 hours ago, Devildog said:

Whatever was said, he shouldn't have burned bridges with his former employer that gave him the chance to play in the NFL coming from an unknown small school.

From the story, it doesn't sound like he burned any bridges.

His brother died, he asked for leave, Ballard and Reich granted it. He was gone a week. When he got back his O-line coach got p/o'd and was mad he did not stay and suck it up for the team.  Then told him he'd never play another down for the Colts.  So he asked Ballard to be released, and Ballard granted it.  He did publicly thank Indy and the team for his chance in the NFL.  And after his statement about what happened with Guge, the Colts released a statement that did not deny the allegations.  Just said the Colts were sorry he felt that way.

A lot of Bosses and coaches are firm believers there is no reason to miss work, even a death in the family.  I had a boss that fired me 2 weeks after i took my 3 days when my grandfather died.  He couldn't fire me for taking it, but when i got back he said i should have stayed and worked instead of taking those days off.  Then fired me for bogus reasons 2 weeks later.

There are just people like that out there.  I am glad he is with a team that is using him and he is doing well.  against the Bronco's he helped keep Von Miller and Bradley Chubb from getting any sacks, and led the way blocking for Martin to get over 100 yards rushing.  When healthy, he was pretty decent.  The injuries just kept piling up on him.

If I had any kind of leg injury I would prefer to play on natural grass.

on soft, and possibly wet (due it it being outside and night) I would not.  Turf has the exact same give and take, and the same grip over the entire field.  No surprises.  Where as grass, unevenness, and worn field with divots, and possibly wet or slick conditions, provide a multitude of injury risk's.

I’m a firm believer that how teams played previously have little bearing in predicting the next game.  Jags Colts this season is a prime example.

To me, it’s matchups. Them missing Casey, Ryan and Walker bodes in our favor, while having their DC helps them.  If Walker plays it’s big for us.  Totally agree about stopping Henry.

Let me explain quickly why at night on an open field of grass worries me.   T.Y. bum ankle, and multiple players with knee injuries already.  Is it sad I am more worried over the field than I am of the team?
