Ju.st don't see in Swoope what others see.  He looks smallish for a TE and not that fast for being smallish.  Coffman is by far the better player.

Rogers and Bray make the team.  Smith goes to PS.

I think most teams carry only two QBs, so I think we can put Morris on the PS.

No RB stood out to me except for Trey Williams, and he's gone already.  Grigson will probably look at the other cuts and pick up an RB from there, so our third RB is TBD, IMO.

MorrIs Is not practise squad eligable.

No he's saying the guy can be "molded" into a quality football player with a little work.  He's got something to work with basically.  There's some potential there.

Sarcasm. Im sure he knows what Pagano meant.

  3. I'm a die hard Colts fan but have to admit in liking the Browns as my sucky #2 team. I record and watch all their games after Colts game is over.  With that being said I can tell you Paul never played  up to his big contract BUT he would still be an upgrade on our team.  If we were to sign him he'd be our #3 or #4 olb. He's about on the same level as Cole as a pass rusher ( mabey a notch better) but he'd be the 2nd best olb at stopping the run.  He and Walden would be an awesome duo in definite run situations. He's about the same as Walden at stopping the run but definitely a better pass rusher than he.  As SDakColts mentioned K'waun Williams also got released from Browns and i can tell you he'd be a forsure starter in the slot, way better than Butler,  that dude can ball,  awesome slot corner!  not sure if we can afford these guys but they'd both be an asset to our team.

    Didn't he get hurt?

Not that I'm aware, he played all 16 games for them last year.

Just seen where Paul Kruger was in the first wave of cuts for Browns. I know he only had 2.5 sacks last year but 12 the year before. Anybody think he could provide any help to a porous colts olb core? Im tossed on the idea because I think he is still good enough to be our 3rd best olb if he where signed but I'd also like to see Trevor Bates/Curt Magget develop. I know others like Okine but so far I haven't been impressed with him at olb. I think he should've stayed at DL. Id love to be wrong on him and see him tear it up in the regular season but I can see him getting the axe when we get to 53.

I saw this and wondered as well. 2 years ago everyone was incredibly high on Kruger. What happened? Curse of the Browns?

Anyone else hoping Joe Haeg cracks the starting lineup by mid-season? :D

Im a big Joe Haeg fan, the kid Is really talented but I for 1 dont hope he starts mid-season because If he does that willmeen one of 2 things either somebody got hurt or somebody Is really sucking It up (I know they all are right now). Now If hes ready to go week 1 and Mewhort Isnt ready than Id be ok with him starting In his place If hes best man up.

Didn't we hire Darren Krein after last season as S/C coach? Pretty well regarded throughout the league...won S/C Coach of the Year in 2013. Also revamped the entire staff from what I remember.

So why so many injuries, again?? I know every team has issues but we again seem to be hurting more than most. I would have thought with a new approach to S/C and new techniques this could be minimized.

I think turf has something to do with it. The facility at West 56th is turf, at least inside. There is growing evidence that even the new style turf is causing more injuries.....

I'm just at a loss. Big Joe always harps on the lack of contact with the new CBA, and how players need to hit more (not going to happen these days)...

Are we just that unlucky? And before I hear "all teams have injuries", I get that. But we seem to be worse than most, year in and year out. And apparently revamping the S/C staff hasn't helped.

This...I have been saying for the last few years that I believe the Turf we use is hard on the players. I have even heard players and sports analysis's talk about how bad our field is (running/injury wise) on the radio several times. They say the cleats stick almost to well which is good for the skill positions but really bad for the OL & DL. Because with their cleats planted in the turf something's got to give when being pushed and fell on by 300+ lb guys. Unfortunately for our linemen it is their ligaments/bones that do the giving.

  9. I'm usually a glass half full type of guy but I'm not very optimistic about this years defense without Vontae, minus the DL/MLB's. It's essential in this league to have either/or a good pass rush or good corner play. Without at least one of the 2 we will get picked apart. Here's to hoping we can generate some pass rush out of our DL/Mathis or somebody steps up big in either of these areas. Go Colts!

During the draft, people said Clark was a project and Haeg could pretty much step right in.  This comes as no surprise, to me, that Haeg is better right now.

O yeah, I know, it just baffles me sometimes when one player is selected ahead of another player that IMO could start for most teams when the player drafted much higher needs a couple years to develop.

Clark.  When he's in someone makes a great play.  Just not for our team.
Yeah, he may have long arms...but he's like a practice dummy out there..they bull rush him right out of the way with seemingly little effort.

I agree, I really hope Joe Haeg isn't hurt bad, he is way better than Clark. Haeg is a keeper, can't believe Clark was drafted ahead of Haeg just because his arms are longer. It doesn't matter if you have long arms if you are just going to bear hug the defender every snap. Another huge disappointment last night was White, wow. ... boy did he get abused!

I've felt increasingly comfortable after seeing the talent of these young pass rushers to go along with Mathis and Cole. As a group they should be able to apply adequate pressure.  And then you factor in the penetrators that we have on the interior like TY McGill, Ridgeway, Arthur Jones, Zach Kerr, Parry to go along with Henry Anderson, Kendall Langford.  Not to mention an offense that I think will definitely put up some points.  I've liked everything I've seen so far with how Chud implements his offense.  It's looking like it's going to be solid to me.
I'm still worried about the pass rush, however I'm excited about Curt Maggitt. He may be the gem that could help us out. McGill is another guy that could work out brilliantly (believe we got him for a 7th, lol). Ridgeway and Morrison are wildcards, but we would of never got Morrison if we didn't trade down. Anderson and Langford I love, just hope to have them back soon. It looks like we may finally have some competent coaching. Chud and Monachino are huge upgrades IMO. I'll also give credit to Grigson these last two years in the draft, he's finally starting to hit on his picks, it seems. This team just got injected with a lot of talent. I'm still worried about Jacksonville, but lets take em out, we got Andrew Luck!

McGill didn't cost us a draft pick, we stole him off Seattle's practise squad.

  13. Ridgeway was ok, not great but not terrible. He held his own but didn't do anything to really stand out. I'd say thats good for a 4th round rookie DT. Morrison looked like a thumper. I think he's got a long way to go in the coverage department but he seemed comfortable and in control making the calls out there. Green played very well. Really stood out both in coverage and against the run. I hate to make predictions after just one game but bearing injuries i think he will be a good safety for us for a long time.

  14. Edwin has received quite a bit of praise from training camp. He appears to be a good coverage LB with alot of speed. He and Morrison are battling for the #4 LB spot.

I'm almost certain that was Clark that had that penalty not Good.

For the record I did not say Good had a penalty.

I was saying that to the guy that said they threw a flag. I don't get on here to argue, every body is subject to their own personal opinion. I was just stating that the play feardennard was talking about was actually Clark.

  16. I'd like to see a line up of castonzo, mewhort, Kelly, reitz, haeg. Or in that lineup substitute Reitz for good at RG and see how they do either way I'd like to see what haeg can do with the ones at RT. I liked what I saw out of him alot. He's much better than Clark right now. Not that Clark doesn't have potential but last night he didn't use his biggest asset ( his long arms) at all. He let his guy get in on him on about every play. He was doing alot of bear hugging instead of keeping his arms out stretched.

They were moving guys in an out, when I rewatch I will check to make sure I have the right guy, but the block was as I described.  I'll try to find the right time of game so you can look for it.
I saw it also a flag was thrown, he literally grabbed the guy around his neck and put him in some type of half sleeper hold.

I'm almost certain that was Clark that had that penalty not Good.

What did you see from Mcnary to make you say he is GREAT? Was that a mis-type? He was playing against 3rd string. He may not even make the roster, let alone be a starter.

What i saw was a guy who seemed to show up at every play he was in for. He was very fast, decisive, and strong tackles, and got to the QB fast on his delayed blitz for his sack.  I was impressed.

I liked the pay call on the sack he got and he does have some quicks. He played alot of rush defensive end in college. This is his 3rd year in the league, when you look at the competition he was playing against and the lb's that got the majority of playing time its not the best look for him. Ill just agree to disagree with you, I root for every Colts player and want them all to succeed I just don't see anything special out of him.

  19. As far as the rookie OLB's go Bates and Thompson looked good. Maggitt was quick/aggressive & showed alot of effort, but he has alot of learning to do. I'm sure the field was wet but he couldn't seem to keep his feet under him. I seen him slip/fall on several occasions and he showed no pass rush moves. All in all I'm happy with these 3 young rushers though. Okine did a decent job rushing but was very disappointing against the run. He caused huge holes for the RB to run through on a few different plays. He has to learn to set the edge better and not just swing way wide every snap. As far out as he was swinging we should have had a mlb there to fill the huge hole he was leaving if we where going to keep playing this way because it was obvious.

Saw RonThompson had a nice pressure/should have been a sack on Cardale Jones.  He looked pretty good coming off that edge from what I could see.  Kind of reminded me of an old school Dwight Freeney rush on the play.  Can we keep all 3 of these guys?  They all have potential to me.  Add these guys with Mathis, Cole, and Walden and I personally think we'll be alright this season with the sacks and pressures.   They'll only get better as the season goes on.
Like i said earlier..all these guys seem to have potential.  Even Okine.  He seems deceptively quick with his long frame..he doesn't look to be moving fast, but when you really time it, his strides get him places quick.

Morrison is as advertised.  relentless persuit dog.

Mcnary is just great. I think he could be a starter.

Bates and Maggitt are both fast and decisive.  some experience is going to do them wonders in making big plays.
