    Top 5 examples:

Texans-They can never get their act together.

    Browns-......no explanation

Titans-theyre just horrible in every area possible. Atleast the Browns have a defense.

Jaguars: Theyve finally picked it up. They came in around the same time as the Ravens and Baltimore has 2 Super Bowls already.

you may want to edit the ravens/jaguars comparison.

  2. Offensive minded or defensive minded head coach is for the most part irrelevant.

denver-under a defensive coach Fox they had a great offense. Under an offensive coach in Kubiak and they have an average offense and a great defense (Phillips DC).

colts-under a defensive coach Dungy they have a great offense(Moore OC) and an average defense

bears-under offensive guy Ditka they have an all time great defenses(Ryan DC)

Maybe, and I have no idea if this it true, but maybe a defensive head coach focus's more on finding a great OC since it's not his strong suit, and puts less emphasis on a DC since he (the HC) will be more involved with the defense, and vice versa for an offensive minded HC.

Just speculating without doing any real research on it.

A rift in strategy for sure....but nobody is willfully undermining the teams chance to win because they want to save face.

Totally agree. "To prove he was right" was meant as just being stubborn to what he saw in Trent and how it could work and not simply to prove Trent was a good move.

  4. The more I think about this the more I believe the meddling and dominance of Grigson is greatly exaggerated. It's hard to imagine that any GM would not have serious input from the head coach on draft picks and trades, or that any owner would allow his GM to make moves without the head coach being a key part of the decisions.

Isn't it possible that Pagano pushed for the Trent trade? I mean, why the "he's a bowling ball of butcher knives" garbage at the press conferences if it was all Grigsons move? If Pagano wasn't excited about getting Trent I would think he would simply say "he's a great back who can help win us some ball games" or something similar. Maybe it was Chuck trying to validate the trade to prove he was right?

I don't know, and neither does anyone else. It just seems like player acquisitions whether through draft or free agency would be done by the GM with significant input by the head coach.

This team, good or bad, is a result of the decisions by both of these guys. Neither one should be able to use the other as a scapegoat. Get rid of both or keep both.

I’ve always felt  there should be a closer degree of accountability between the GM and the head coach for the results of the football operation.

  5. The answer really depends on who we are getting to replace them.

However, if I had to choose I'd get rid of the coaches.

I think Grigson has shown progress with the 2015 draft and free agent acquisitions (overall). With the coaching staff, there are still too many games with slow starts where I yell at the screen "What have you been doing all week?" And when the Colts do start with a good plan it seems they are surprised and have no answers when the other team comes out with 2nd half adjustments.

It has been reported for quite a while now that it has never been Chuck's decision. And now it is being reported that everyone knew Hamilton reported directly to Grigs.  I mean how can you do anything when you literally have no one behind you?

And if you say then he should've just left... How in the heck is he ever gonna get a HC job if he just leaves his players, players that love him?  Cmon man

Too many unknowns here. Was it like this from year one? Did it start with Trent? Just this year? Was the understanding from the start that both player acquisition, coaching staff and game day lineups would be joint decisions? We really need a lot more information to make accurate assessments.

If you think it is that black and white you apparently never have been in either a corporate environment and/or a sports team environment.

Been in plenty, and yeah, I probably made it too black and white. I assume they would have had discussions o about differences of opinions on who should play over who and such, but as head coach the final say on the field is Chucks. If it wasn't then neither guy should be here next year.

Thats a good point.  Let's say it's true that Grigson was making those decisions.

What if Chuck ignored him and played the guys he wanted?  As long as they were winning, what could they have done to him?

Exactly. Just say to Grigson "you get the players, I'll make the lineup."

  9. Can't leave coach or GM dangling on a 1 year deal. It's puts them in a "win now" mode with no concern for the future. Maybe that's why Pagano was playing Johnson over Dorsett. Why suffer through the growing pains of playing a rookie for someone else to reap the benefits next year.

Same thing with Grigson. If you keep him for the final year of his contract he may do some things to try and win now, but at the expense of what's good long term for the team.

If Grigson stays he needs to be extended at least 2 additional years. If at the end of next season you want to fire him, eat the contract. Same as they should have done with Pagano.

Hey, it's not my money. :)

Can you imagine if Indy had not been transplanted out of the AFC East and Indy and NE were division rivals for the past 15 years???  It would have completely changed the face of the AFC.

or a more logical grouping geographically:

    East-NE, NYJ, Buffalo, Baltimore

    North-Pittsburgh, Cincy, Cleveland, Indy

    South-Tenn, Houston, Jacksonville, Miami

Now that's really a bad AFC south!

  11. Offense

    QB-Luck

    RB-Gore (preferably sharing carries)

    TE-Allen(sign)

    WR-Hilton, Moncreif, Dorsett

    C-?

    LG-Mewhort

    RG-?

    LT-Castanzo

    RT-?

    Depth

    QB-who knows

    Line-Holmes, Thornton, Reitz and Good

    RB-Herron(sign) and another

    TE-Doyle(sign) and another

    WR-Carter, Bray, and another

    Defense

    Line - Parry, Anderson, Langford,

OLB - (need to add a stud), Mathis,

ILB - (need to add a stud), Jackson

    CB - Davis, need a #2

    S - Adams, Gaethers

    Depth

    Kerr, McGill, Jones?

OLB-Walden, Newsome and (Werner, if we get a new staff)?

ILB-Freeman (sign at right price), Moore , Irving

    CB- Butler, Smith and another

    S-Lowery (sign if cheap), Anderson?

Between draft and free agents we need 3 starters on offense and 3 starters on defense. Two on defense need to be play makers. Easier said than done.

  12. If Colts win next week and Texans lose, tied at 8-8.

Current strength of schedule is Houston 26, Colts 23.

Texans win total is increased with wins by NO, NYJ and Cincy,

Colts win total is increased with wins by Denver, Atlanta and Miami. You can do the math from the remaining games below. Pretty sure this is all correct, but not 100% sure.

    Games still to be played:

    JAX vs NO

    Cincy vs Denver

    NO vs ATL

    SD vs Denver

    NYJ vs Buff

    NE vs Miami

    Balt vs Cincy

  13. Much more than any other sport, football is all about coaching.

How do we have the personnel to compete with the Pats and Broncos for 4 quarters, but there are large portions of the games vs Bills, Jets, Titans, Saints and Panthers where we look completely lost, unprepared, and slow to make the proper adjustments?

Too much “stick to the process” and not enough smarts to prepare for the unexpected and/or adjust to the other teams adjustments.

This coaching staff does not seem to grow and learn from its’ mistakes and is slow to grasp what is happening in game.

Does this staff develop young players? No! Everyone has either regressed or remained stagnant.
On offense, Luck, Hilton, Castanzo, Fleener, and Allen have all regressed. Holmes, Thornton, Harrison have all failed to develop. Even Mewhort has stagnated.

On defense, Toler and Davis have both regressed this year. No development from Werner or Newsome. Something is dreadfully wrong when your proven players are trending down and your unproven young players are not showing any growth.

How many players on the roster are better players now then when they were drafted?

  14. How about this (and not as crazy as it seems)

    1. patriots

    2. denver or cincy

    3. cincy or denver

    4. colts or houston

    5. kc

    6. pitt

    wild card

    colts/houston beat kc

    pitt beats 3 seed

    divisional

    colts/houston beat 2 seed

    pitt beats pats

colts/houston host pitt in afc final

The 2,3, and 4 seeds all have QB issues.

The key for all these teams is to have NE/Pitt match up in 2nd round.

  15. Manning, Roethlisberger, Luck, Dalton, Gronk, Edelman. All key players that missed games due to injuries this year. Who's to say the teams in the playoffs don't get a few key injuries which opens the door for some upsets?

You never know what will happen and you never give up on an opportunity to make the playoffs.

As soon as Luck is cleared by the doctors, he plays.
