For all the Gordon talk this is very concerning to me, you got to be able to throw the ball downfield. Dink and Dunk will not win a Super Bowl

We will see this week, I believe he can throw downfield and throw it well.  The 11 of 493 is more about offensive scheme and it's one of the reasons why his numbers (and Minshews the year before and Falk the year before...) are kind of taken with a grain of salt.

A Patrick Mahomes arm is nice but it's not necessary to be successful in the NFL.  If a Qb can zip a pass in there on a 12-15 yard out to the far side of the field, that is all the arm strength needed to succeed.

Personally, I think Gordon is the best passing QB in the draft this year... yes even better than Burrow, but guys like Burrow, Herbert, Love, etc have athleticism that Gordon does not have.  Gordon can move around in the pocket to buy time but he's not going to scramble out of the pocket to create time like a Watson or Wilson or Mahomes or Dak or numerous other QBs.

Where is your proof that AV out kicked anyone where these competitions public, private. I believe it was to save face cause they already knew they were sticking with AV.

As far as what you believe... well, I'm afraid there is no amount of proof that will prevent someone from believing their own made up narrative based on zero facts.

I wouldnt say too good of a locker room, but maybe too much loyalty to beaver cleaver type players like JB and AV. He preaches competition but when key players arent getting done I dont see others always getting a shot. I think letting AV kick too long plus JB staying under center when stinking it up might have killed some overall drive in the moral of some players.

This is a very uninformed post.

Regarding AV.  They brought in kickers two different times for an open competition and AV out kicked them.  And people forget he AV started off rough, they brought in kickers, AV outkicked them and then played well over the next few games, then he struggled again and they brought in kickers again and AV outkicked them, then when he struggled again the kicker they wanted became available and they signed him and put AV on IR.  Not really much more a team can do with competition.

Regarding JB.  If you cannot answer these questions then you do not know if there was competition or not.  How did all the QBs do in the game plan tests every week?  How did all the other QBs do in the film room?  Did they ask good questions, did they see the correct things?  Were they able to pick out coverage schemes and anticipate where the opposing player would be before the snap?  Even things like did they follow the team diet all goes into evaluating a player during the season.  Like I said, if you can't answer those questions then any comments about preaching competition but not following through are coming from a position of ignorance.

He seems like a smallish DT, but maybe he isn't.  I'll have to see how he measures and tests at the combine.  He may be able to get by in the Big 12 because of motor, but he needs a basic level of size, speed, strength, and agility to be a factor in the NFL.  Can't say for sure until the combine.

Maybe.  Everyting I've seen is he is around 6'3 295lbs and since most that I've seen seem to think he has a first/early second round grade, it seems he has that basic level of size, speed, strength and agility for the NFL.

I have heard Mahomes is expected to get about 40m a year for five years. Not sure they will be able to keep Jones.

The number for Mahomes is about right but that won't stop them from keeping Jones.  He is almost as important to the defense as Mahomes is to the offense.

Of course, if he misses the AFCCG and the Chiefs stomp Tenn after the 1st quarter, they may decide he's not that important. :)

One can hope, because Jones would be a great addition to the Shoe.

Is this a case or an example not to possibly select a QB at 13?

Neither.  Just stating a fact.  If the Colts take a QB in the draft and start him, history would indicate the Colts will not be going to the SB in 2020.

If the Colts stay with JB, chances are they will not be going to the SB in 2020 (2021 to be precise)

If the Colts sign a free agent QB, chances are they will not be going to the SB in 2020 (2021 to be precise)

He seems to me to maybe one of those guys who is a classic overachiever in college but struggles in the NFL due to limitations or "tweener" status.  I'm leery of guys who don't seem to have a great fit at any NFL DL position.   Tyquan Lewis ring a bell?

I don't know much about him, what makes you think he's an over achiever or tweener?

  8. Man there are just so many players outside of round 1.

I won't mention Anthony Gordon since I was talking about him before it was cool to talk about him.

DT Tershawn Wharton from Missouri S&T - Small school guy who went to the East/West Shrine game and, according to one scout, said the big school guys couldn't compete with him.

    A couple of michigan guys

Olineman Jon Runyan Jr., yes the son of long time NFL lineman Jon Runyan.  Played LT at Michigan but will probably move to guard in the NFL.  probably a 3rd round or later guy

Michael Danna - DE - Only played one year for Big Blue will be a late round/ priority FA type but could be an eventual successor to Sheard.

Navy QB Malcom Perry - will probably switch to WR in the NFL.  Looked natural as a WR at the East/West shrine game.  And even if I was Army, I will always root for a military guy to make it in the NFL.

Georgia WR Terry Godwin - Small receiver with excellent football smarts, quickness, agility, great hands and route running.

OT- Oli Udoh, Elon, Another that will move to guard but has NFL size at 6'5 335lbs and apparently is super strong and as the practice reports say, "heavy hands" meaning once he locks onto a guy he controls him.  Did really well in the East West shrine practices in the run blocking drills, struggled a bit in pass blocking.

Lastly Kyle Dugger - Safety - Lenoir-Rhyne University.  A 6'2" 220lb safety with sub 4.5 40 speed and the only Div II player invited to the senior bowl.  I'm excited to see how he does next week.

As if the very nature of sarcasm could not possibly be both half truthful and half exaggeration/joke.  The only reason I was justifying anything at all is because apparently sarcasm is offensive to you or goes unnoticed.  I explained it to others and they left it alone for what it was - a meaningless throwaway comment.  So, if you prefer, next time my sarcasm goes over your head, I can juts tell you to * off if you want?

Like I said, I'm over it.  It's not really worth wasting any more time over.

You can tell me to * off all you want and your sarcasm did not go over my head.  The only reason I responded was because you claimed it was sarcasm/half joking and then spend a couple more post explaining how your (half joke) is true.

But it pretty much boils down to you make a stupid comment and when people called you on it you get all defensive and claim it was sarcasm.

Keep crying, tell me to * off if you want, pretend your wit is at a high level, it really doesn't matter to me.

Good heavens. Apparently sarcasm is a lost art and indefensible around here. I'm honestly over this conversation and I'm sorry I said anything at all.  I have said pretty much to everyone that I was only half serious, but tried to explain how the sarcasm fit in.

If you are going to be stone cold in your face serious about this, then I just could not care less about talking with you about it. You're taking this WAAAAY too seriously. Have a coke and a smile dude.

If it was just sarcasm, half joking that would have been one thing.  But, you claimed it was sarcasm/half joking and then spent an entire paragraph justifying your comment.

Like the old saying goes, actions speak louder than (typewritten) words.

Nelson probably DID allow a couple, but ALL the stat people were too afraid to list them.

After all, they saw what punting a ball near him would do.....

Maybe I see things differently, he didn't do anything to the punter other than walk over there and jaw at him.  The punter was so scared he kicked another ball at Nelson after.

I think Nelson is the best guard in the NFL and one of the best olineman in the NFL and I think he's a big reason for a change in demeanor for the Colts oline and the Colts as a whole, but that video clip of him was kind of weak, he could not even intimidate a punter.

We're talking semantics here.  I'm half joking that Nelson sacked Jacoby Brissett and it caused him to miss nearly two whole games and play with a compromised knee the rest of the season.  But I'm also half serious that not having allowed 0 sacks doesn't tell the whole story.  It's no different when people were pounding the table because Jacoby Brissett had "good passing numbers" but it doesn't tell the whole story.

The quote was gave up 0 sacks all year.  Does that mean he dominated every single play... no, it just means he gave up 0 sacks all year and has not given up a sack in 30 straight games.  The only thing adding anything more is you.

Given how much everyone (and this is not directed only at you, but to everyone in general) seems to have torches and pitchforks pointed in my direction because of a bit of sarcasm, I get the sense that no one is appreciating the logic in an anecdotal remark.  Yes, the guy has 0 sacks and overall, one of hte best guards in the league.  Doesn't mean the dude doesn't have bad plays now and again, and I can't see how anyone could argue that that one play wasn't one of the more significant plays of the entire season.  One which he was a huge part of.  Before that play we were 5-2 and about to go up 10-3 on the Steelers.  After that play the season went downhill.  Again, not all entirely on one person or one play for that matter.  But the JB injury, of which Nelson was responsible for getting destroyed so bad he was in a position to hurt his QB, was certainly one of the pivotal moments of the Colts 2019 season.

Where is Jskinnz when you need him.  I will just reply with an, oh brother.  Yes, Nelson getting beat on that play is why the Colts went 2-7 the rest of the season.  Forget the fact that after JB went out Hoyer threw a TD pass to Doyle and the Colts went up 10-3.  Forget the fact that JB said the knee wasn't bothering him.  Forget the fact that he has the same issues before the knee injury as he did after the knee injury, forget the fact that the defense played incredibly up and down.  nah, let's say Nelson getting pushed back into the pocket was the pivotal play of the entire season.

So I say again, 0 sacks, that's great.  It also doesn't tell the whole story.

No one ever claimed the sack statistic told the whole story.   It's funny though, even though no onle tried to claim the sack statistic told the whole story, you are trying to make it seem like one play tells the whole story.  Can't have it both ways.

Love has franchise written all over him. I am not sold on Eason going in the first. I don’t think Fromm does either. Most likely Burrow, tua, Herbert and Love are first rd picks. Like I said just because you don’t have the choice of the first two doesn’t mean there are no more franchise guys. Like someone posted on another thread Loves draft profile is almost the same as Mahomes was. We will get a better idea with the QB with the senior bowl and combine.

To the bolded that is not true at all, yes some are comparing him to Mahommes but that is only because he has a big arm and is not mechanically sound.  One of the big plusses for Mahommes coming out of college was that he constantly scanned the field to find an open receiver.  With Love a big negative on him is he locks onto his primary target and rarely will go past his 2nd read.

Additionally Mahommes was considered very accurate on intermediate passes and above average to average on deep passes, Love is considered to be above average on intermediate passes.

I don't claim to be able to predict how well a player will do in the NFL based on a few scouting reports and seeing them in a game or two but I do know, that QBs that have issues like the scouting reports say Love has do not usually last long in the NFL.

I think we need a change at LB coach anyway. There were some glaring problems last year like lack of covering over the middle or bubble screens. Health issues played a part but a new voice might get better fundamental play. Hoping at least. This draft is going to be very exciting too

Phair was a DL coach not a LB coach.

  16. Again, too late to vote in the poll but I would go

    DT (or iDL)

DE (the ones the Colts have drafted are more specialist, I think the Colts need to look at a Sheard type DE.  The Colts run defense improved dramatically when he came back from injury and finding a guy that can provide a rotation with Sheard and Houston and then take over for one in 2021 would be ideal.

Safety - The Colts are set at starting CB, IMO with Desir, Rock and Moore but I would like to see them add someone that can push Hooker to either improve or lose his starting position.

  17. The poll was closed by the time I saw this thread, but IMO the needs are, in order

    QB

TE _ I like Doyel but the Colts don't have anyone consistent behind him.  Maybe MAC can become that guy, I don't know.

Guard - I think if the Colts went into 2020 with the same oline they would still be one of the top units but if they can find a guard better than Glow then I think they can become the best oline in the NFL.

Obviously if AC retires then OT becomes a bigger need than TE or guard but since I don't think that will happen, then it's not a priority this year.  Additionally, I think both TE and guard are lower priorities than a DT and DE on the D side.

This would literally be the worst thing that could happen to the Colts at this point. First, Luck leaves, then Ed Dobbs is possibly gone. We already lost Rex Hogan to the Jets and Morocco Brown is a candidate to be hired by the Redskins for GM. That "with the next pick" series was the worst thing we could of done. Now everyone's trying to poach us.

No one is trying to poach the colts based on a video series of 5 minute videos the Colts did for the fans.
