I don't think he's a big fan of our roster in general. I think he's the guy who has been giving our roster below average grades for the past two years.
He didn't love our signing of Doyle. Gave the Colts a C+.
He views Doyle as a JAG. Notes that the passes he's caught only traveled less than 5 yards in the air and that might be a league low. And yet, he notes his catch per target rate is the highest of all receivers in the NFL. I don't think he fully appreciates the chemistry and trust between Luck and Doyle.
But I wanted to give you the background.....
The Doyle signing on its own may not be spectacular but it allowed us to jettison Allen for a mid round pick so altogether it's a little better than just resigning him. Also can you provide the link?

If the team comes out flat half the time and comes up short in 4th quarter come backs or pulls a stupid fake punt again you can bet he will be gone even if he does buy into Ballard.

It took a few years, but we ended up w the guy who went 5th overall in the draft that we ended up coming away with Bjoern Werner and have nobody left on.

But like you, I didn't see Allen having trade value. Not because of the contract -- NE has him for $4.5m in 2017 -- but because he hasn't played well. Word is we get NE's 4th, and we give up our 6th. I can live with that. This is not a bad draft to add another 4th.
The salary cap has gone up 40% since Allen was drafted. 11.5 million isn't the worst. Could have paid an older Garcon 16 million like the Niners are this year (compared to 12 million for 2 years like the Gmen for Marshall). I know not the same position but a little comparison to make it hurt less.
