  1. A way to look at it is like this: If a team called up Grigson and said they'd give him a 2nd round pick for either Fleener or Allen, who would you want him to keep? Extremely hypothetical, but it puts it into perspective.

I would want to keep Allen. Fleener is a contributor on offense, but Allen is more skilled at almost everything. Not only that, he plays hard and with attitude. It's not like a New England situation where both Gronk and Hernandez were equally amazing, although Gronk was better. Allen is ahead of Fleener, who struggles to get open, and then doesn't catch it when he does. He's great in the Red-zone though. But Allen can catch any type of ball.

  2. haha. Welcome to the Colts Sam (hopefully). But it's clear a lot of teams will pass on him. Luckily we have a classy organization that would welcome him with open arms. I think it was Chris Culliver who said on Twitter, that he'd love to see Sam go to his favorite team; the Colts. Not sure where he would play though. OLB seems most likely. Is there any other position he could play in our scheme? 3-4 DE?

  3. Have you guys seen the FA market after next year? Green, Bryant, Marshall, Nelson, D Thomas, White, Crabtree, Shorts and a few more. That's the route we should go unless Mathews falls to us. Just my opinion.

Most of those guys if not all of them will be re-signed. But Matthews is the only receiver we should use that pick on in the 2nd round. If not we will be fine. Brazil can be a number 3. Everyone knows that Rodgers has big play potential, and could be a star. It's all on him though. I think people overrate Griffin though. He's no more than a rotational guy.

  4. This may be off topic but hearing "we should copy the Seahawks" says hey were not good enough to compete with them and lets kiss their butts. didnt the Colts beat the Seahawks? yea they did. How about the Colts just build their own defense just like Zimmer did with the Bengals, who by the way were top 5 on defense and the Panthers built their own defense they were the 2nd best defense. if you want to build a defense you draft them, same with offense. The Bengals have built their team through the draft, offense and defense minus James Harrison. we dont need to sign 26-27 year old guys who will play through one contract and retire. the only way to build a solid team is through the draft. the players on our defense havent had the time to mesh together because most of them our from free agency, ie our secondary minus Bethea. There is a reason the NFL has a draft. If you really want to be like the Seahawks you build through the draft.

Not sure if you were responding to me but that's basically what I said. We don't need to copy the Seahawks formula. It's their strategy we need to copy. The reason the defense is so up and down is that these guys have no continuity. They don't play well together and fit each other's strong points and mask their weaknesses. That's the thing about the Seahawks D. Both the secondary and the DL are a cohesive unit. Most of that has come through the draft.

That's what we should do. Cut Toler and draft a young corner. Then next year we can draft a great Safety if we can't get one this draft. I love Grigson and Chuck, but they need to be patient and BUILD a team. Not just throw one together hoping it sticks.

  5. If he does turn out to be a depth player even for us I think it's still a good pick up.  I do think we'll be adding another guy in the draft or free agency.  If our plans are to bring in a FA to be the starter I think our talent level for the depth players would be much improved with maybe Muamba and Mcnary subbing in behind whoever the starter would be.  Although in my own eyes I feel Mcnary has enough skills to play along side Freeman.

As long as he turns out to at least be a capable starter. We'll draft a LB eventually, but I hope the core with Freeman, him, and Mcneary will be good enough until we are in a position to fully invest in a LB.

  6. I kind of feel like the fact that we were in a bidding war with the Patriots for him is a bad sign. The Patriots have a young and promising LB core with Jamie Collins and Dont'a Hightower. If anything, it means they wanted a depth guy. But I'm okay with giving him a chance especially if it means we don't have to spend our 2nd round pick on a LB now. I'd love Skov, Smallwood,etc.. in the third though. Maybe we can get that corner we need now.

But I hope this fairs a lot better than some of Grigson's other attempt to find players "in the trenches".

  7. We should be doing what the Bears and Steelers are going to be doing which is getting younger on defense. That means draft a corner to pair with Davis who is still young. I know a lot of people are saying "Everyone should copy the Seahawks formula", but I agree. Not to copy the type of players they have, but to build a young scrappy team, and let them grow together. People forget how young the leagues best defense is.

Patience is key. Sign FA's to fill holes that you can't address in the draft yet. That FA money would be better spent on a Center.

  8. I think some of you guys are under-rating some great prospects at the WR, ILB, CB, and O-Line. Personally I think Matthews out of Vanderbilt is a stud. I think Da'Rick Rodgers is a playmaker, but if Matthews falls to us in the 2nd round, we have to take him. That's the only WR we should take in the second.

I saw one person mention him, but I think Shayne Skov from Stanford is worthy of a 2nd round pick. Not only is he instinctive, but he's a born leader. That is what we'll need down the line. A field general in the middle of the field like the Panthers have with Keuchly. I'd take him over Smallwood honestly.

The most important position after that is DT. I'm not sure how we have a 3-4 but don't have a true DT to make it work. I've seen Daquan Jones and DeAndre Coleman mocked to us. Both would be good fits. I also agree about Baptiste. But we would have to build our secondary like the Seahawks then, and surround him with other "big" physical corners. We can keep Davis since he's good, but we'd need a physical safety to match. But that's where the issue of not having a 4th round pick comes in. We can't get marquee players at all of our positions of need in the 2nd or 3rd round. I'd rather take a DT and ILB who can immediately help against the run, rather than get a Safety and CB early.
