  1. I'm starting to notice that there isn't a huge disparity in the skill level of the CB's. Usually you have like 3 tiers of players: The 1st being guys who are definitive first round talent. Then in the second tier, you have your guys who aren't as polished but are 2nd-early 3rd talents who can probably start. And then you have your 3rd tier guys who are developmental guys you can coach up and turn into starters, a few diamonds in the rough can be found.

Most mocks were throwing around names like Roberson, Fuller, and Purifoy as the true 2nd round guys, but most of those guys have been un-impressive and didn't separate from the pack. Most of the CB's are all in the same tier. A lot of these guys are all arguably on the same tier. It's a deep class, but a lot of these guys are more like 3rd-4th round picks. But it's good because you don't have to be scared and draft a CB in the 2nd because you might not get a good one later.

Dennard and Gilbert are gone in the 1st. Only Roby and Verrett are really legit 2nd round talent.

  2. Did Stanley Jean-Baptiste fare well today? That kid looks like a poor man's Richard Sherman. No kidding.

That's exactly what Mayock was saying. He ran a 4.5 something. Not sure what the official time is though. I've only been home an hour so this stuff is probably old. I'm watching now and I'll update but he may have already done everything and I'm just now catching up.

  3. I am in complete agreement with you on Howard and what to do with our first two picks (I'd also throw DT in there as well, more on that later).  I said it above, but I think Howard showed extremely well.  He's one of those guys that is just a bit undersized height wise.  But he's still an explosive athlete that he could find a spot somewhere on our D. To be honest, I think if he could improve his play recognition, and learn coverage (and be good at it) he could be a fantastic ILB.  Otherwise, I think he'd be a strong situational OLB.  As with most other LBs in this class, he's a project that I wouldn't mind signing a stop gap player in the mean time.

As for the rest of the ILBs, I still like Bullough and Brown too.  They will have their obvious limitations in the passing game, but will be useful as a run stopper, which we desperately need ath this point.  If either are there, in the I'm not sure how the Cotls have graded him out, but I'd be thrilled if we got one in the 6th or 7th - 5th may be pushing it, but again, depends on how we feel about him and will use him.  I don't think I'd be upset if we took one of those guys in the 5th, but I'd be a bit critical if we passed on someone better.

As for the 2nd and 3rd round picks, totally agree.  It depends on who's available.  While I personally think our bigger needs are at CB and WR, if a guy like RaShede Hagaman happens to drop to us, I'd pounce on him in a heartbeat.  I really think that this draft will work most in our favor because so many of hte projected 1st round guys aren't necessarily positions of needs and the ones that are, are the deepest positions in the draft as a whole.

Exactly. Its simple. If there are more teams with OL and WR needs in the first (which there are), that means a lot of first round worthy talents at other positions get pushed down further. Hageman could be one. Or one of those top corners. But yeah, depends on whose there. If Matthews, Robinson, and Hageman are gone I think we take one of those corners. Maybe McGill, and if by some miracle Darqueze Dennard falls, we'll take him. If the right WR is there, I think we're taking him as much as people don't want too. If not that, then we could take Smith from Louisville.  When it's all said and done though, I think the BPA available when we pick if we don't trade down will be a corner or WR.

  4. The more I watch and look into it, the more I think that I just don't think any inside linebacker in this draft merits a pick higher than a 5th rounder except Mosley.  Projects and tweeners galore.

You may be right there. I'm starting to feel the same. This draft class of ILBs isn't as deep as I originally said before. It is but it isn't. Its deep in the sense that there are alot of promising prospects at the position, but there's too many knocks and questions surrounding all the guys not named C.J. Mosley.

I didn't see one LB that really sold me on him. I was routing hard for Bullough and Brown, but they didn't blow it open. I was most impressed with that Howard Jones kid, but he may be a OLB which is perfectly fine.

Probably best to use the first 2 picks on a corner and DE, or WR and Corner

  5. I've said before Smallwood is overrated. I'd be okay taking him in the later rounds if he went on the 4-6th like Mayock suggested. Tape is too inconsistent for him to be taken high. If we take any ILB early it has to be Skov or Bullough. Borland is too small to cover. Skov is a question mark there but he has the physical traits to learn how to drop. Bullough is a proven player and he can cover. Question with him is physicality IMO. Skov is definitely a future captain and signal caller though.

  6. No one posted the link for WalterFootball so here it is:

    http://walterfootball.com/draft2014meetingsteams.php

    Here are the players:

Dee Ford, DL, Auburn (SR) Adrian Hubbard, LB, Alabama (SR) Arthur Lynch, TE, Georgia (SR) Jerick McKinnon, RB, Georgia Southern (SR) Michael Sam, LB, Missouri (SR) Jalen Saunders, WR, Oklahoma (SR) Marcus Smith, LB, Louisville (SR) Logan Thomas, QB, Virginia Tech (COM)

Nothing new, except for Logan Thomas.

Not a bad list If it's accurate. I'm surprised there aren't really any 3-4 DL prospects on there. They have Smith listed at LB basically insinuating he'd be a 3-4 rush OLB in our system. But nice to see names that were suggested here on the list. People have good taste and vision, and know their stuff.

  7. Yeah I liked both of the Smith's as I said before. Marcus could be a great DE prospect to look at. I also like Coleman as a 3-4 DE. Maybe draft one to start. And one to be an under-study for Redding. I was high on Mauro too. Didn't necessarily Wow me out there but I think he might play better than he works out. Those Smith guys (Chris and Marcus) were both amazing though. Marcus is probably the better scheme fit though.

  8. WOW!  I am still not concerned about a 40 time here.  Maybe he will fall and make someone happy happy happy....

I ran a 5.00 in my dreams last night and I woke up doing cart-wheels...with an injured groin and hammy

It should matter when there are faster, better ILB's out there. Borland, Brown, and Bullough just to name a few, all ran better than him. But Mayock's assessment of him is more telling. But let's see how he does in the on field drills, especially the pass coverage ones.

  9. Well, he's being projected as an OLB in a 34 so I was just wondering. Honestly, with his body type and measurables, he doesn't look to fit any scheme effectively.

That's exactly what it is. He's not particularly good at any one thing. He's like the defensive version of Denard Robinson. You can put him in certain packages in some situational football, but he's not a long term starter at any one position.

  10. It's exactly why neither Clowney nor Manziel should go first. I've never seen 2 potential 1st overall picks, with more red flags combined. That's got to frustrate a GM. Makes me upset. You're that athletically gifted, all you have to do is not be a Knuckle-head off the field. Such a shame. One guy who doesn't want to work and doesn't have the passion for the game, and the other is more concerned with the fame and glory, than being the best for his team.

Won't be surprised to see Bortles go 1st.

  11. The reason why we should trade castanzo is because he's a free agent next year and will want a lot of money we cant afford. He cant pass block and we need a LT that can so there are better upgrades via FA

Can't pass block? He damn near pitched a shut-out in the playoffs against Hali and then again against Chandler Jones. Hell, he was handling Jones so good they moved him to the other side.

And since he's been the starting LT, most of the pressure's come from the right side, not his side. That would be why we brought in Gosder Cherilus.
